Quizzes, Puzzles and Challenges / Saturday Telegraph pub quiz question 18
« on: February 05, 2017, 01:56:23 AM »
Which game is inspired by, and is named after, a walled city in the south of France?

(Perhaps not the hardest question for members of this forum! But as the 20 questions are graded from easy to difficult it is considered harder than most for the average quizzer!)

General / Should a Mega Game have barns?
« on: January 28, 2017, 12:15:51 PM »
I have a mega game coming up and I'm thinking of using the barns.  It will allow the meeples to be used for cities and roads instead of laying around for 2 hours.

However, I have seen others say they don't use barns.

What's your advise lads and lasses?

Online Games and Competitions / Playing against 5 on JCZ
« on: September 18, 2016, 10:28:54 AM »
Just had a mad moment and challenged the 5 computer opponents on Jcloisterzone.

Managed an easy win once I completed a Cathedral city which I shared with 2 other colours.

I have I&C, T&B, A&M, Cathers, Besiegers, Russian Promo, King, Festival, Catapult tiles, GQ mini and winter edition tiles in the game and using the City of Carcassonne as the start tile.

Hi Dan,

As I understand it, us competitive types have opted in to viewing tournament posts.  If I was new to the site and a competitor - how would I see details of competitions?

I guess we are saying that the majority of members are not competitors so it is easier for you to opt us in than them out.

Just my random thought for today.

regards Rich

I have lost a trade token.  Really annoyed.  Does anyone have a spare barrel trade token that I could buy?

General / Spinoff headtohead QF#1 - Kids of Carcassonne vs The Castle
« on: June 12, 2016, 03:03:17 PM »
Kids of Carcassonne received a bye in the opening round as it was the remaining version in the hat after the other 10 had been drawn against each other.  The best 2 runners-up H&G and New World got through as best losers.  It is now winner takes all in each poll.

Carcassonne is a great tile laying game with infinite expansionability.  It has been reduced to a travel version, reinvented as Carcassonne II, colour changed for the Winter Edition and had luck added in the Wheel of Fortune.  But these are all different flavours with the same playability as the vanilla version we all love and return to again and again.

Variants on a theme are all very well but the tile laying concept can be taken much further, and has been by Hans im Gluck and other companies too.  This series of polls is for the forum to offer thoughts on which is their preferences and why.  I am only including spinoffs by Hans im Gluck through various distributers in this series.

The poll is open for 7 days and then another will be offered up for comments.  It may well be that the 3rd option gets most votes but it'll be the spinoff with the majority that progresses to the next round.

A possible Adda bug when playing The Tower.  I just won 132 - 8 having captured all 7 of Adda's meeples.  Adda had opportunities to capture mine and even placed the tower piece but didn't capture!, nor did Adda pay the ranson.

Adda gave me a good game in the other 2 games that we've played this week.

Reviews & Session Reports / Alternative World Record Attempt 2016?
« on: May 02, 2016, 02:32:54 AM »
At Thirsty Meeples cafĂ© in Oxford, JT Atomico and Curt194 managed to play 8 different versions of Carcassonne.  This seems an impressive achievement, but it can and no doubt will be bettered.  I have come up with a quick list of 18 versions below that all belong to the Carcassonne family of games and I bet that I have missed a few others.  Is anyone in UK up for a marathon session and an attempt at bettering 8 versions?

I have no idea when/where etc.  just a gauge of interest at this stage.
