Title: How to play online with my friends
Post by: supertopix on March 14, 2020, 04:48:04 AM
Hi from Italy. As you probably know (if not, you really should do) in Italy we are strongly requested to remain at home.

We would like to have a way to play Carcassonne, with a couple of friend.

Which is the best way?

Thanks and stay safe.

Thanks. Be aware that is only a matter of time, one or two weeks and every European country will face the same threat. And emoji code631] too.

When I launch JCloisterZone.jar my Macbbook Air keeps telling me that I’ve to install a JDK...

Now I've installed the last version (https://docs.oracle.com/en/java/javase/13/install/installation-jdk-macos.html#GUID-7EB4F697-F3D1-40EA-ACDF-07FA90F02D57) of it, but nothing is working. So... how can I get rid of this JDK ? I'm not so confident in using my terminal... which is the right command line to input https://docs.oracle.com/en/java/javase/13/install/installation-jdk-macos.html#GUID-F9183C70-2E96-40F4-9104-F3814A5A331F, in order to -rm JDK 13.0.2 on my mac? Thanks

I run JCZ by double clicking on the "JCloisterZone.jar" file on my MacBook Air. No command line involved. Have you tried this?

As a side note, I tried "java -version" from the command line and I got the "No Java runtime present, requesting install." message as well. This must be related to the licensing changes by Oracle.  >:(

Yes, of course.

But - on my Air - it didn’t work (it is working on my iMac).
I’d like to uninstall this JKD, but I’m not able. It has to be done by Terminal.

If the JDK doesn't interfere, I wouldn't try to remove it... but in any case, the uninstall instructions are the ones you found:

https://docs.oracle.com/en/java/javase/13/install/installation-jdk-macos.html#GUID-F9183C70-2E96-40F4-9104-F3814A5A331F (https://docs.oracle.com/en/java/javase/13/install/installation-jdk-macos.html#GUID-F9183C70-2E96-40F4-9104-F3814A5A331F)

You will need to do some command line stuff as you can see... Not much though.

You will need to enter the following instructions on the command line:

1. Go to the directory with the JVMs:

cd /Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines
2. Check the contents of the directory

Code: [Select]
ls
If you get in the listing just one entry of the form jdk-13.jdk then you'll have to remove it as indicated. If there are several entries pick the one you just installed.

3. Remove JVM. The sudo command will ask for the root password, so keep it at hand.

Code: [Select]
sudo rm -rf jdk-13.jdk
4. You are done.

EDIT: Added command line entries

Hi supertopix,

I just created a topic explaining how to use the "Play online" option provided by JCZ to set up network games easily. No firewall tampering required.

Check the tutorial here:

http://www.carcassonnecentral.com/community/index.php?topic=4561.0 (http://www.carcassonnecentral.com/community/index.php?topic=4561.0)

Hope this may help you.  ;D

Cheers!

Nope, no malware :) If you like you could check all the code on github:
https://github.com/farin/JCloisterZone (https://github.com/farin/JCloisterZone).

As MeepleDrone said it's possible to play online without the need to open up your firewall and things like that. Just click the play online button and if your friends use the same version as you. Then they can join your lobby :)

Have fun and stay healty :)

ps. JDK is required as it is a Java application.
