Hi guys!
I can't stop thinking about what will be the next thing in line for Carcassone. Do you have any predictions?
I'm pretty confident on them releasing a new major expansion next year. But since I'm quite new here maybe this is the normal order of things and they release 1 major expansion a year.
Anyway, I would also really like an individual release of the minis with the new art style, since currently, these are only obtainable buying the Big Box and I would like to have them neatly organized on those little tuck boxes.
-
Cool thread, thanks for starting it.
A new large expansion came out this year so it's not certain another one will come next year. If I had to guess, I'd say that there won't be another large expansion next year. There was a three-year gap between Expansions 9 and 10.
Regarding separate availability of the minis, this is, unfortunately, one of the ongoing issues of Carcassonne fandom - namely that small things often come inside Big Boxes or paired with the base game and are often not made available separately - the River (III) is one example from Big Box 5. Sometimes these things are made available separately online at Cundco (the official shop of the publisher HiG), and sometimes they aren't. This dilemma has resulted, by pure coincidence, in danisthirty owning exactly as many copies of the base game as his age in years (37 in both cases).
I'm not sure what I expect for next year. I'm not really following the latest developments anyway because I am one of those stubborn people who likes the old art and doesn't like the new art, so my Carcassonne buying/collecting is pretty much over at this point.
-
Expansion 9 in the new art is expected to be released next year.
I don't think another big expansion will be released, but maybe some of the mini's will be released, that would be nice :)
-
Is there a chance they are gonna release the besiegers in new art?
-
Probably expansion 7, the catapult?

Very revealing and sad. At least, very sad for my wallet... ;D
I have read some posts by danisthirty regarding him shooting for some world records. Pretty sure he is on the good road to achieving them if he hasn't achieved them already!
I will wait until we get the major expansions with the new art and then, if the minis aren't out, I'll think about buying the big box.

Nice! That makes all the major expansions, isn't it? Since we will be buying one major expansion a month beginning in January (and Inns & Cathedrals is already part of our collection) this will make it easier to get them all next year.

Regarding this expansion. Is it really worth it? At least for someone who wants a purely strategic Carcassone, not so much a dexterity one.
Well, maybe we'll buy it anyway for the sake of completionism.

It is my kids favorite. Without kids, I’d pass on Catapult.

Thanks Amorpheus! I guess it would do it for a party type Cracassone game with friends.

It would, but hopefully they improve upon the catapult if indeed they do reissue it in the new style (I’m doubting they will). The old catapult is barely functional.
-
They released Count, King, and Robber in the new art. That one is almost as bad as the Catapult. Will they release the Wheel of Fortune too? I may actually buy that just to have it.
-
For me the new edition of the expansion 7 will be The wheel of fortune (only as an expansion)...
-
Hi guys!
I can't stop thinking about what will be the next thing in line for Carcassone. Do you have any predictions?
I would prefer any new expansion/mini expansion in old art (it's impossible, I know).
-
I'm hoping for 6, 8, and 9 in the new art in English. Hopefully we'll get a new small expansion. I would like to see some of the other small expansions combined into large expansion 11 (Maybe Siege, German Cathedrals, and German Castles). Oh and I'd totally buy Wheel of Fortune if they re-released it in the new art.

I hope so.

I can definitely see Wheel Of Fortune and Hills & Sheep being released in the new art style. I too would love to see a new collection of smaller expansions: Siege, German Cathedrals and German castles in the new art style would be awesome! I just don't know how they would name it, since there are Cathedrals in Inns & Cathedrals and Castles in Bridges Castles and Bazaars.
hey wait is BCB released in the new art style yet?
-
I'm just going to predict that the annual promo expansions will never be released in the new art. No German Monasteries (or Dutch/Belgian), no German Castles, no German Cathedrals, and no Windroses. Similarly, I don't think the Spielbox expansions will ever be re-released in new art, so no Little Buildings, no Plague, and no Tunnels. Just to add to this list, I very much doubt The School will be released in this art simply because of its purpose as a fundraiser promo.
That still leaves a number of small expansions that could plausibly be re-released in the new art including Besiegers, Corn Circles I, and Halflings I and/or II. Add to those The Phantom and you would actually have a very nice little Expansion 11 combo pack à la Count, King & Cult (Expansion 6).

I wish!

Every board game has one of these:
Carcassonne: Call of Cthulhu Edition
-
Eagerly waiting for it then ;D

I think this would be a great replacement for the Catapult as the 7th expansion.
Also do people think the new 7th expansion will come in a regular or tall box (tower/catapult box)?

Welcome to the forum InTheDark!
I predict we'll see the continued invasion of Southern France with famous German buildings :(y)
Perhaps they are too expensive to maintain, so leaving them in France means the local authority will have to pay for up-keep.

Well they have German Castles, German Cathedrals and German Monasteries so far, so maybe combine all these and release in the new art as Carcassonne: Germany Takes Over.

In German, yes. In English, not yet announced. Not sure about other languages.

I've seen that movie, didn't end well for Germany :-X

Great topic Vinçon - +1 merit for getting people talking! :)

Yeah but they had a lot of work on their hands with the new artwork edition coming out at the time. I don't think it will be 3 years before we see major expansion #11. In fact I wouldn't be surprised to see it next year. And it will probably be available in time for Essen alongside the African-themed "Around the World" spin-off.

:P
But also, it would surprise me if they didn't release the mini expansions separately as they're a lot more than just an alternative version of the river with 1 or 2 slight differences. What's more likely is that they'll release them in a slightly different way (perhaps with a new/ different CC tile in each box making up CC3) forcing the completionists among us to buy both BB6 and the new artwork minis, and leaving all the normal people to choose one or the other depending on what they own.

Pretty sure you haven't! You might be confusing me with someone else :'(
-
Wohooooo! Thanks!!
Did they did something similar before where they "forced" people to buy a Big Box to complete something else?
And regarding the World Records. I would swear I read something in this very same forum. I'm probably way wrong though!

Personally I've never been forced to buy anything for any game. But HiG do have an irritating habit of releasing special editions of the game with certain exclusive tiles that are very difficult to get hold of elsewhere. And so, if you're someone who *needs* to own *everything* then you end up with multiple copies purely to keep yourself complete... ::)
Maybe it was Paul?

Yes, it could be!

Any chance of a Second Star Wars expansion - The Star Traders and Empire Builders?
-
release in the new art as Carcassonne: Germany Takes Over.
"... With Help from Japan." ???
Still waiting for Italian Monasteries to complete the set. >:D
After that, then American Monuments ... but they don't get shuffled into the tile stack until the game is already under way. :P
-
I think we wont see anything big whats new soon. They need to make a profit on the new edition first..
-
It would be great to see a UK promo. Castles or something similar

Carcassonne: "UK Castles or Something Similar"
Like it! :)

It looks like the creative energy for national castles/monasteries/cathedrals has died down quite a bit. After the original German monasteries, the Dutch monasteries came soon after and Devir held a poll about which monasteries to include for Spanish monasteries. At that point, it seemed like the floodgates would open and we'd see a lot of 'national' stuff. But since then, it's been only the German originals except for the Japanese temples.

I got a nice one for Devir's in case they release something: "Sagrada Familia Tile".
It is a cathedral type of tile. When you draw it put it in the regular city placement. You can't finish the city. Ever. ::)

So when I made my Germany Takes Over comment, I was thinking more like in a "euro-gaming" way, not in a "WWII" way. I personally think Germans are awesome, and I'm trying to learn German so I can know what's going on when I eventually make it to Essen someday. It doesn't look like anyone was offended, but if they were, I just want to clarify that it was not my intention.

Love it lol

Even if it will never happen, it would be nice if they publish an official and non sticker version of La Porxada ;)
Also I'm thinking of tiles with the same function as the Cathedral for cities, but for streets ::)
The best news would be, that they will print new (major) expansions in the old design as well - but I know that this sadly is just an illusion.
At the end it will be a new big box with the wheel of fortune in the new design ;D

I don't think anyone took your comments that way. If any offense was to be taken, it would probably have been because of me and my dumb little joke. Obviously nobody at HiG is trying to make any kind of "statement" with the German and Japanese tiles; it's just that in those countries there were marketing reasons to want "local interest" game components, same as the Russian folklore tiles and La Porxada. Naturally in the context of WWII, the specific combination of the nations involved here (France/Germany/Japan) and the direction of the relationship (German stuff coming into France) has a little bit of what marketers call "bad optics" and lends itself to a little ribbing. I hope that by also making fun of America's "late arrival" it was clear that I was joking around and being an equal-opportunity smart-aleck.
I too love Germans and their culture, and have dabbled in the language myself. I miss my old colleague Bernd who was helping me learn.

You are absolutely right, sry I wrote it not precise enough. I was thinking of (one or two) tiles that triple the points if a street is finished.

The Cathedral doesn't triple, though, it adds 50%. But I'm not sure a multiplier is actually the most consistent way to look at it. I think of Cathedrals and Inns as both adding 1 per segment/pennant, so I see them as parallel.

No but if a road tripled, it would be worth the same as a cathedral city (three points per tile), which I think was the point.

You can read my thoughts - thanks for expressing them ;D

Given that minor expansions these days are between 12 and 15 tiles, like Peasant Revolts last year, rather than 4 tiles, like Die Katharer....do you think that we'll see any more major expansions? IDK, I wrote more before, but with technical difficulties, I'm truncated. Maybe I'm just antsy for my package from Cundco to arrive. I was going to post a pic, but it got to be onerous. So, yeah, I'd love to see some more new expansions since the last major expansion seems to have been Hills and Sheep in 2014. Same year as the C2 release, so all the major expansions have been being revised to be incorporated, but something monumental would be cool. But really, the mini-expansions are now a similar amount of tiles as many of the prior major expansions - :pink-meeple:
-
Well good news for you! The last major expansion was Under The Big Top (aka circus expansion) in 2017!
-
Pardon my ignorance, I am admittedly new to Carcassonne. Isn't the Under the Big Top just a refreshed Wheel of Fortune? - :pink-meeple:
-
No! It's a whole new expansion that features acrobats, and circus animal tokens. It's pretty good mechanical speaking, even if the theme is wacky.
That's the joy of discovering Carcassonne, you keep finding out about new stuff!
-
Not at all ;)
Under the big top is the 10th big expansion, and the first CII only big expansion!
It's gameplay is very different from the wheel of fortune, I wouldn't compare the 2.
Under the big top brings in a new meeple, circus chips and meeple acrobats.
You can find the rules and tile distribution on the wikicarpedia if you like to see it ;D

It is a fun expansion and I would highly recommend. You can easily incorporate all or some of it into your games.
Guessing who will get the "flea" is the talk of all our games with the kids!

You can have a look at the rules here, just in case:
