Wheel of Fortune and The Count
« on: June 12, 2015, 08:12:02 PM »
Hello everyone, is there a form that those main tiles (the wheel and the count) could appear at the beginning of the game? If the answer is yes how is the correct for to conect them. Thank you.   :red-meeple:

The large count and wheel tile structures have regular size, city road and field edges along the outside border to enable regular tiles to be placed.

Hi Temujin.

I would say that if you're looking for any official ruling on how the two should be arranged then you probably won't find one. I'm not aware of one anyway.

As such, you're free to put them together in any way you wish. I'd be interested to see a post-game report (with photos of course) to describe how well it worked and if you'd do the same thing again.

When I use both, I put the City below the Wheel (Fortune [the woman] should be at the top). All the roads and the city line up perfectly when oriented that way and there is no awkward differences is size between the tiles. Thus the start tile will be 7 tiles high and four wide. If you play with both Rivers, I also put the sources for each facing away from the City, having them start on opposite sides from the open Fields. The starting Wind Rose can pretty much go anywhere you want, and if you include The School, make sure only one road is blocked in entirely—you don't want to dilute the expansion too much. You can also put the original start tile to the south of the City with the Field touching the open Field space there.

I should upload a photo of this monstrosity...

Sorry about the terrible resolution but I took this at night in low lighting and didn't realize my camera sucked so bad. This is the extreme setup we do in the extremely rare event that we do all the expansions together (it's been a few years honestly). The couple of items that are new to this, primarily the Windrose, are placed logically on the board. The only optional element is the original start tile, which probably should be placed elsewhere to reduce the value of that road, but I kept it there for symmetrical purposes. You could also always swap out one of the river sources with the GQ#11 source, but I chose not to here. Alternatively, you could reverse the Rivers with their lakes, but I'm sticking with the official rules here. Overall, this will get the game started nicely without any problems or conflicts between start tiles. With the River, players can choose which to expand and I always recommend playing the fork as it's drawn.

GReat photo, it's good to see all these starting tiles being used together!

There are lots of different setups that could work.

Now just to work them all out!

If you look at the photo upside down it kind of looks like a meeple.
Just lay the damn tile!

I kinda like that there is no official ruling on this as it opens up to so many variations that YOU and your players can choose from and get a unique starter zone.

Here is for example our starter where we also included the Windrosen and The Rivers:

World record holder for a single game of Carcassonne using 10 007 tiles!

I like the lakes that are close to the city of Carcassonne and the sources are played at the end.
A knight is sworn to valour.
His heart knows only virtue.
His blade defends the helpless.
His might upholds the weak.
His word speaks only truth.
His wrath undoes the wicked.
