That was an ok interview.  I was hoping she would mention the blue roofs.  Red made sense because it is the cheapest paint to make.  When you think of big red barns, it isn't because the farmers all got together and decided on red.  They would have picked hot pink if it was the cheapest color.  Blue and purple were very expensive to make, so I thought Anne was adding a wealthy status symbol to their cities.  In reality a bunch of people at HIG sat in a meeting and some director demanded blue.  Anne may not have liked the blue either.

It was a good read. Thanks for sharing! What I retain from this is that concensus is impossible to make and that the artist herself had many limitations.

Well I feel stupid.  I always saw pictures where they looked light gray.  For whatever reason the color looks different depending on how the sun is hitting it.  Pretty cool

These are non-medieval rooftops added in the 19th century, for what it's worth.

Are the blue roofs the work of Eugene Viollet-le-Duc?  If so, that would put version 2 after 1860.  Too late to have any Napoleonic themed future expansions.

I enjoyed the interview. It gave me a clearer sense of just how many restrictions Anne was under as she worked on her designs, and thus more appreciation for her work. I think I am far from the only one who much prefers her Winter Edition work to her Carcassonne II work, and it sounds like that is largely due to the increased restrictions on her for the latter -- not necessarily a reflection on her artistic approach or skill.

Honestly, I find many elements of her Carcassonne II tiles to be beautiful (the bridges come to mind). Perhaps some of the things I like least (the color of the grass and dirt, the blue rooftops) she is not a huge fan of either. Who knows! So, a good interview. :) Thanks for sharing.

The blue roofs of the buildings in Carcassonne aren't blue because of paint, they are actually slate grey, which looks blue in certain lights (and looks more grey in others). The tiles are blue naturally. I never have figured out why they chose red as the roofs in the original Carcassonne.

I did only minor changes and mostly ran wild with the 6th expansion.
I am impatient to see that 6th expansion! :D
