MrNumbers

A nice game with MrNumbers. It felt like I was always one step ahead owing to a trapped meeple belonging to MrNumbers (

) but even with this there was still a lot to fight for. My best placement of the game involved adding a ccff tile (bottom-middle) to a city belonging to MrNumbers such that the city would never be completed as this also stranded another meeple on a worthless bit of land that couldn't then be joined to the main farm.

Now that the World Cup has died down a bit for many of us, we could try to restart Last Meeple Standing. Rosco and jma03 are my two remaining opponents in this round, but I think they still have WC matches remaining. But don't let that stop the rest of you if you have finished your WC group matches and are looking for a game!

Yo dudes.

I know things have gone off the boil a bit with regards to this competition (as expected), but while we’re still waiting for the outstanding World Cup group-stage matches to be played I don’t see why we shouldn’t continue with this as far as possible as Round 4 has been pretty exciting so far!

Furthermore, even though I normally wait until after a particular competition has finished to send out prizes/ souvenirs (often several months), I thought it was worth mentioning that LMS souvenirs have already been arranged and should be in the post very soon unless you’re Decar or Paul in which case your prize will arrive along with your prize from the Abbey & Mayor league which have already been posted.

I composed my post offline earlier on and have been waiting for things to die down a bit at work to get online to post it.

Obviously great minds think alike (well, mine and jungleboy's do anyway)...

You're right, they do, but you've already played jma03 this round. Your two remaining games are against Rosco and Jéré...

I got off to a good start because Jéré did not draw many interesting tiles and he is often hesitant to place lots of meeples at the beginning of a game anyway. This allowed me to get off to a nice early lead at 32-4. It became clear that there would be quite a dominant farm and we both had one farmer in it. Jéré added a second and a third, and at that point I decided to concede the farm and use the meeples that I would have used for the farm for other purposes instead. I figured that with the lead I already had, I could still win the game without the farm as long as I continued to keep the scoreboard ticking over. Then towards the end I added some farmers to small farms to add to my score, and this was enough to win the game. The 17-point margin was a nice bounce-back from my 31-point loss to Dan last time out. So I think I am now +36 with one game left in this round.

I thought I'd won this as I did especially well on farms and seemed to complete just about everything I started including a 14-point city which I took a chance on drawing one of the two remaining cccr tiles to finish it. However, Rosco managed to close a much bigger city with two of my meeples and three of his for 34 points and this proved too much for me to overcome, especially since he had two impressive roads on the go at the same time.

Overall it was a great game and Rosco played brilliantly. Too much for me to handle this evening anyway!
