HELP! Someone can host the games between GHL510 and I... we get an error trying to connect to the online server.

We are in the chatroom now. Thanks!

Thank you Jere for the Games.
Especially in the first one I had the feeling that everything i tried failed.
It was a demonstration of player skills.

PS: We dropped the percentage of home victories ;-)

Chooselife vs. Hounk 0:2

This came really as a surprise, as Chooselife is in general the much better Carcassonne player then me. First was Chooselife's "home game", which was really close all game long. Many cloister points gave me the edge, and I was lucky he did not get the right tile to outwin me on a 6 points (very likely) or 12 points (less likely, due to my blocking) farm. In the end, I won by two points.

Second game was even weirder. I totally missed, that both road cloisters were out and worked my way to outwin the big fat farm, in case I get the second one. It took me till the last tile to be aware of my mistake. I actually blocked one of my farmers myself with a cloister, because at that time, I needed the other fitting tile, a curve road, as well for another farmer. Though I was aware, that I scored more ingame points, I totally expected the farm would be enough for Chooselife, but in the end, I won by 10 points.

I played my match with Halfling this evening. Both games were played in a very short space of time (about 15 mins per game) but packed a lot of fun into such a short period of time! Here are the results:

Game 1
Dan :blue-meeple: 94
Halfling :yellow-meeple: 83 (starting player)

Game 2
Dan :blue-meeple: 90 (starting player)
Halfling :yellow-meeple: 62

I got a pretty raw deal at the start of this game as I got almost nothing but roads for about 10 tiles in a row! Fortunately I was able to use them to build a tempting enough road that Halfling tried to share it with me, and I was able to prevent him from joining by forcing an rrrr gap at both ends (the rrrr came out early and was placed elsewhere).

With two meeples trapped on roads and another on a city cap needing a cfrr to complete it (of which I drew all of them), Halfling struggled with his meeple shortage whereas the opposite seemed to be true for me. I kept my score ticking over nicely with a few small cities and roads, and a couple of promising farms too. In fact, my farmer in the south-east corner was only worth 6 points until near the end of the game when I completed 2 more cities to double his value and take 4 points for each of the cities.

Despite the fortune of the tiles falling in my favour, Halfling did well to retain control of his northern city and also fought back hard to get onto the 9-point farm that we ended up sharing.

Well played Halfling, and thanks for the games!

Game 1
MrNumbers  :red-meeple: 81 (start player)
Rich_The_Fish  :green-meeple: 97

MrNumbers kicked off our first game. We played quite quickly and things were pretty even - I had generally had more points on the board but MrNumbers was much better placed with several farmers. I had a meeple trapped for quite some time (just to the west of the 2 cloisters), but somehow managed to prevent MrNumbers from completing his large city in the east.
With 30 tiles remaining, scores on the doors were 16(:red-meeple:) v32 (:green-meeple:). Things hadn't moved much with just 12 tiles left, as the score was 20(:red-meeple:) v 40(:green-meeple:) and neither of us had any meeples left! Shortly after this, I drew the final cloister (FFRF) and promptly cursed that I couldn't claim an immediate 9 points as I placed it in a ready made hole, but at least I could complete another cloister and retrieve a meeple.
With 7 tiles left, MrNumbers completed an 8 point city in the north to close the points difference to 21 but he had control of the main farm with 3 farmers compared to my 2. Before our last tiles were drawn, the game was very finely balanced at 37(:red-meeple:) v 58(:green-meeple:) with the main farm worth 15 points in MrNumber's favour. I lucked in here and received a CRRC to glom into the main farm and level ownership at 3 farmers each, whilst the very last tile wasn't so fortunate for MrNumbers as he could only claim a small 4 point city in the north (just off the top of the screen) and boost his mini farm by 3 points. As it turned out, it wouldn't have been quite enough even if he'd managed to get a fourth farmer in to take control.
Overall a very tense and highly enjoyable game - it was really really close throughout and it could easily have gone the other way had the tiles not fallen in my favour towards the end.

Game 2
Rich_The_Fish  :green-meeple: 72 (start player)
MrNumbers  :red-meeple: 66

Erm, not really sure what happened here - I fully expected normal service to be resumed and to be put in my place by the current ELO leader, but things didn't turn out like that. Somehow, despite feeling I'd deployed my meeples a little hastily, I managed to avoid too many of them getting trapped.
With 49 tiles remaining, I felt things had slipped out of control - it was 11(:green-meeple:) v 14 (:red-meeple:) but I only had 1 meeple left whilst MrNumbers had 6! MrNumbers then deployed 2 meeples which later took control of 'my' city in the north, whilst I tried to muscle in on 'his' city in the south east.
Things looked rather close with 31 tiles left, 24(:green-meeple:) v25( :red-meeple:) and the scores remained close until the very end. This time we both ran out of meeples a little earlier, with about 20 tiles left. I tried desperately to stop the city in the north from being completed (or even expanded) and also tried to delay his cloister in the middle (FFRF) from being completed by limiting nearby tiles. MrNumbers just didn't have the luck though as I always seemed to get the tiles which he needed. With about 17 tiles remaining, I completed a 4 point city in the west and then rolled the dice on my next go and gambled by placing a farmer in the east (CFCF tile) knowing that it was highly likely I wouldn't manage to get any other meeples back during the game. It was then a question of damage limitation whilst trying to complete unoccupied cities to boost the farms worth, whilst hoping MrNumbers wasn't able to complete any of his features.
It was very close, but he just didn't get the tiles, whilst I took control of the farm with my recently placed farmer. With 1 turn left the score was very close at 32(:green-meeple:) v 34(:red-meeple:) and despite now having a meeple left to place, MrNumbers wasn't able to claim enough points to offset the farm.
In the end, it all came down to the farm, but it could easily have gone very differently - MrNumbers deserved to win this game, but unfortunately for him I seemed to have all the luck.

Thanks very much for the games tonight. I really enjoyed the first one as it was very competitive, but feel the second wasn't really deserved and that luck played too much a factor in the result. However, I'm sure that next time we play, you'll resume your normal dominance and even things up! Cheers

Thank you, Rich, for the games and for very detailed reports. Literally nothing to add.
Though I lost, I didn't feel I had made any serious mistakes in both games, maybe in the second game I needed to control the farm better.
Rich_The_Fish has ended my winning streak and started his own, consequentially winning ELO rating number ones. Watch out, next ELO leader! Rich_The_Fish is coming for you! >:D

Last round Khalid was severely punished (-49) after reaching the top... now it's MrNumbers' turn (-46).

It's called the curse of the Elo leader!  >:D

Rich_The_Fish (1225) would need at least another 155 pts to reach the top, so still quite far. Right now Merlin_89 (1380) is #1 but hasn't played yet this round.

Wow! Congratulations on that great result Rich_The_Fish. That's 2 matches in a row now, and both times against the top-ranked player of the moment!

Commiserations MrNumbers, but I'm sure your dream is still alive despite this setback...
