Double Base Tile Games
« on: August 07, 2017, 06:38:11 AM »
I saw this on the iPad app and thought to myself "why don't I do this with the physical game?". How many people double up on the base game tiles for a bigger game? Those that do, when do you feel it is better/worse?

Those of you that play with a double set of base tiles, how do you split them up afterward? Do you watermark them somehow (small sticker or something?) or do you just know all of the counts well enough to split them?

I don't have a second base game, but if I were to imagine how I would split them, here is what I might do:
1. Print out a sheet with all the configurations, and pile the appropriate tiles on the image until you have enough of everything.
OR
2. every time you have two tiles with the same configuration, put them in two separate bags.

I imagine that that you know all of the counts doesn't help too much, as you still need to keep track of what you have.

I've once played a double-base game which was a mixture of old and new art so was easy to separate afterwards. This was a 2-player game between my wife and I and was quite a good size, although we were both struggling to keep focused towards the end.

I've also played in a game that included three sets of the base game (belonging to Decar) and a few fan-made expansions. Once we'd separated out the expansions we just made piles of all the differently configured tiles and split each pile into three. This game took about 4 hours to play with 7 players!

Have fun!

It looks kind of small in that photo. Hard to believe that's about 240 tiles! (ish)

Sounds like it may be a little too long of a game. It seems like it could be a bit of a farmer fest. Perhaps with a lot of players it would be useful to have extra base tiles? Maybe a little much for 2p. I suppose it depends on how much player interaction you like to have in your games.

If you're looking big, just use my set of tiles  :black1-meeple:

Could be useful for ten persons, but need a big big table and a lot of time to play, and should be some months to split every games and expansions...  :black1-meeple:

It's always worth a try - you'll never know if you enjoy it or not.  During our large game, we were all playing quite strategically and a lot of the duration was from the large number of players, rather than just the number of tiles.
