Title: 2019 Basegame League - Round 1
Post by: danisthirty on January 21, 2019, 05:09:36 AM
Round 1

The full list of all fixtures for Rounds 1 to 11 can be found here: http://tournamentscheduler.net/schedule/NzAwODE4MjQzNg (but please don't play any of your opponents from any future rounds yet as we're going to take it one round at a time).

Please aim to play your match as soon as you're able to, but let's aim to have the round wrapped-up before the end of next week (Sunday 3rd Feb). If we finish earlier than this, we will of course move on to Round 2 without any further ado!

I will send PMs to every pairing to ease you into the competition, but probably won't be doing this for future rounds.

Good luck to everyone; and when you do get round to playing your match please don't forget to post the results and any screenshots you have here on this post! Thanks C:-)

Hola,

When you download JCloisterZone it is zipped. Before it will run successfully you need to unzip the file.

If you are using Windows, you can do this by right clicking on the downloaded .zip file and choosing "Extract All..." or something similar. It should then create a folder with the unzipped files inside. You should go into this folder and double-click JCloisterZone.jar to run the game.

Please PM me if this isn't the case or if you have any further difficulties.

Any updates from anyone? C:-)

JackFace and I are planning to play our match on Thursday evening. I'm hoping others have at least contacted each other to discuss suitable opportunities to play by now?

first game was fairly steady with me winning pretty much throughout.  The second game was even all the way through until i got a great tile to prevent dronedrone equalising the farm, with only 3 tiles left.  The other place i was going to place said tile would have added 1 point to my score but i figured winning the farm was better.  Dronedrone took the next tile which made no significant difference. i took another which i added to my cloister giving me 1 point and then ............
dronedrone took the final tile..... which was the only one which added his farmer in to the farm and meant we shared it!!  final score was a win to drone drone by 1 point!!  had i placed my 4th to last tile on my cloister, and allowed him to join the farm, it would have been a draw!

Game 1:

This was my home game, but I didn't feel as though placing the first tile gave me much of an advantage. It was close throughout, with both Jack and I ending up in the position of needing the last cfrr to complete our respective cities. Jack was willing to take a bigger gamble on this than I was, but when he drew the tile we both wanted it meant he won the farm too. This came as a bit of a blow to me as I wasn't sure what kind of impact it would have on the scores, but fortunately (for me) it wasn't enough to overtake the lead I'd built up earlier so the game went my way.

Game 2:

This game felt quite different to the first, notably because some favourable tile draws allowed me to get off to a good start, and I seemed to have a couple of extra meeples in hand throughout most of the game which was a first for me! I trapped a couple of Jack's meeples in cities and he was unlucky elsewhere spending too long waiting for the right tiles to complete cloisters and also a long, long road. He did keep himself in touch for most of the game, but his meeples came back to him too late and when his valiant attempt to share the main farm with me came unstuck the final scores showed it...

Thanks for the games Jack, and good luck with the rest of the competition!

Match score: 2 - 0 to danisthirty

Has anybody else got any matches scheduled to take place any time soon? Please post here to let me know! C:-)

First game with Bekse:
I made some stupid mistakes ad Bekse took controll of it and blocked me on those spots, after all I didn't had the luck to overcome it and Bekse won with 100 points against my 87 points.

The second game with Bekse:
In the game we started off with some meeples blocked, and quite fast after that we found out that we needed to fight for the farm early, Bekse started on the lower(now purple farm) and I overtook it. Bekse had after the chance to overcome and make one big farm but didn't choose to later in the game. I think, if he had done that he could have won the game. But it would be a big guess ofcourse. At the end I was quite lucky to get in the top the quite big city and place my last meeple on the middle unfinished city.

I really enjoyed both of the games, tnx Bekse! for the great games.
Score:
Bekse:     1 point, PD:+9
Sinscerly: 1 point, PD:-9

Two very close matches tonight after both players having problems with closing their respective properties in real life!

These games were all very much down to the run of the cloisters and we shared the luck and the points.

Thanks for the games Riker. Best of luck with your other matches in this league.

Game 1 Riker  :green-meeple: 110 v TheSteveAllen  :yellow-meeple: 91

Game 2 Riker  :green-meeple: 76 v TheSteveAllen  :yellow-meeple: 88

TheSteveAllen and I played this evening. A most unfriendly game played in good spirits, as Carcassonne should be. Thanks to Steve for his patience on missing him last night and with me still getting to grips with the interface.

Riker 110 TheSteveAllen 91
TheSteveAllen 88 Riker 76

The tile draw was in my favour in game 1, which saw me getting a lot of cloisters. While final scoring was very even I had gained enough in game lead to take the win.

In game 2 Steve made some clever endgame play, using his tile knowledge effectively to take a 21 point field. The tile draw had turned in Steve's favour this time - at one point I drew 7 plain roads in a row.

Thanks guys for getting your match played guys. I've updated the scores, and all being well with the much-anticipated clash between Halfling and the numbers man, we should be ready to move on to Round 2 by tomorrow...

The final games of the round were played in a very friendly and most excellent spirit.

MrNumbers started game 1

I got a huge help in game 2 where I was trying to glom in a second farmer.  All too easily done.

MrNumbers 118 vs   98 Halfling
Halfling       132 vs 114 MrNumbers

Well done and thanks to everyone for getting your matches played so quickly! I hope everyone has enjoyed their first couple of games, and that you're all looking forward to the rest of the competition!

Before we move on to Round 2 however, here's a quick recap of the scores from Round 1:

Obviously it's far too early in the competition to attempt to draw any meaningful conclusions from this yet, but it's good to see that we all appear to be of a similar standard which is going to make for some very interesting games further down the line!

Round 2 is now live! You can access the thread for it, including fixture list, by following this link (http://www.carcassonnecentral.com/community/index.php?topic=4207.msg61877#msg61877).
