Title: Travel Pack Contest - The Kickstarter Kicker
Post by: Decar on January 29, 2017, 02:55:41 PM
I thought there might be a few friends here who would be interested in this.  I've been pretty busy in January with this little project.

Over on BGG, there has been a small 'Travel Pack Contest' featuring people's attempts to reduce the size of their games so they can travel with them.  I decided to take part - You can see my entry here. (https://boardgamegeek.com/geeklist/218850/item/5178044#item5178044)

For me: travel boxes need to be small - crammed to the brim, with a diverse range of games and contain a copy of Carcassonne.

Rather than repeat myself and show you everything you can see on BGG, I'll just draw attention to the bits of the box I'm most pleased with:

1) The Box:

2)  3cm Carcassonne + The Tower Print and Play:

3) Santorini

4) Tak
(http://tehill.net/carcassonne/projects/travelbox/box6.jpg)

5) Haru Ichiban

6) 7 Wonders Duel

7) (Your Name Here) & The Argonauts
(http://tehill.net/carcassonne/projects/travelbox/box15.jpg)

8)Print and Play Potion Explosion
(http://tehill.net/carcassonne/projects/travelbox/box20.jpg)

9) Print and Play Conquest of the Skies
(http://tehill.net/carcassonne/projects/travelbox/box26.jpg)

10)Print and Play And Then We Held Hands
(http://tehill.net/carcassonne/projects/travelbox/box29.jpg)

11) GIPF
(http://tehill.net/carcassonne/projects/travelbox/box30.jpg)

12)2 Kings
(http://tehill.net/carcassonne/projects/travelbox/box39.jpg)

13) Kokono
(http://tehill.net/carcassonne/projects/travelbox/box40.jpg)

What I'm really happy about, is having Printed some of my own games, I think I might have kicked the Kickstarter Habit - or at least be more inclined to only back Print and Play option when it is available on Kickstarter.

Not every game could be printed at home, due to the large number of components and sure: they don't look as good and they look a little rough around the edges, but I'm able to scale components down and reprint them then they need replacing.  I can throw or give them away the game, if I dont enjoy them too.  I'd definitely recommend any of the Print and Plays I've included above.

I believe the voting for the contest winner starts on the 1st February, so I may be back in a few days to request everyone takes a look at the entries (and votes for mine  O0, if they wish) if they're a BGG user!

Wow!  I can see a lot of thought and work went into this.  I just wanted to point out that Santorini is on a 5x5 grid and each player gets 2 meeple.  I need to try some of these other games you have listed.

Also, I love the Mr. Men lunchbox.   For a very brief time they were popular in the US.  I gave all of my books to my son.  I even have this in my office.  Mr. T pitys the fool who prefers Peppa Pig to Mr. Men.    :P

Thanks Dirk - I rushed that setup; did the original Santorini only have one character; like most abstracts the board size is adjustable ;)

I think it's ok to like 'Mr Men' AND 'Peppa Pig' they're special in their own rights....I think there is room for both :)

Boardgamegeek says the original came with 4 wooden people.  From the pictures it looks like player 1 may have used cylinders and player 2 used prisms.  https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/9963/santorini (https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/9963/santorini)

Also I know you have been super busy, but have you checked your PMs?

Thanks!  I can't see my sent PMs on here for some reason and always worry that stuff wasn't sent.

As for your contest, I don't see a voting option.  It looks like the official start of voting is tomorrow.  Merited!

Great stuff Decar. I'm always impressed by your printing projects, but this is something else! I love how much thought and attention you put into choosing which games to include, and also how you could reuse certain components to represent different games: especially Santorini and Gipf!

Also, I love the Mr. Men lunchbox.   For a very brief time they were popular in the US.  I gave all of my books to my son.  I even have this in my office.  Mr. T pitys the fool who prefers Peppa Pig to Mr. Men.    :P

I had (and indeed still have) a grey A-Team lunchbox which lasted me through most of my school years. It got very scuffed from being dropped/ kicked/ thrown around in the playground but it never broke and is still in a useable condition (flask too).

I think it's ok to like 'Mr Men' AND 'Peppa Pig' they're special in their own rights....I think there is room for both :)

+1 to that. And the A-Team.

Thanks for the votes -  I'm 9-votes behind the leader with a few more days left on the clock!

I was expecting a formal vote, but looks like thumbs are the final decider.

Thanks MrNumbers!

It was great fun putting it all together. I especially liked making the Carcassonne tiles.  The painted towers can be used for Quevy's expansion too!

It looks like I'm a little too late though - 3 votes short of taking top-spot!
