Title: Tollkeepers in C1
Post by: Drodo on December 04, 2020, 09:28:51 AM
So I prefer playing with C1 tiles, and all of the newer C2 exclusive minis such as Watchtowers and Fruit Trees can be combined no problem, except for the Tollkeepers.

Does anyone have a suggestion about how to use these tiles? There are no peasants or anythign in C1 tiles.

You have some stables arround roads, this is only suitable. Also you can play that Inn can be counted in C1

There are a few tiles with small cottages and/or some cattle. In the C1 base game you will find them on FRRR, FRFR and FFRR tiles...

For example, you can check all square tiles for official sets/expansions by selecting the following settings on the WICA C1 Tile Reference page :
- Tab "C1 Expansions": Select all the top level checkboxes
- Tab "Edges": Select "Square Tiles"
- Tab "Features": Select "Farm Cottage" and "Farm Cattle"

https://wikicarpedia.com/index.php/Tile_Reference_(1st_edition) (https://wikicarpedia.com/index.php/Tile_Reference_(1st_edition))

If you select all the C1 sets and expansion versions you may find 77 tiles (out of 666) with configurations: 4 x CRFF, 1 x FFFF, 34 x FFRR, 30 x FRFR, 6 x FRRR, 2 x RRRR. This means around 12% of the tles.

C2 has a higher proportion of features affecting Tollkeepers.

For example, you can check all square tiles for official sets/expansions by selecting the following settings on the WICA C2 Tile Reference page :
- Tab "C2 Expansions": Select all the top level checkboxes
- Tab "Edges": Select "Square Tiles"
- Tab "Features":
   - Select "Gardens" under "Regular Features"
   - Select ""Highwaymen", "Farmhouse", "Cowshed (Shed)", "Donkey Stable (Shed)" and "Pigsty (Shed)" under "Special Subordinate Features"

https://wikicarpedia.com/index.php/Tile_Reference_(1st_edition) (https://wikicarpedia.com/index.php/Tile_Reference_(1st_edition))

You will get 121 tiles (out of 412):
* 91 tiles with highwaymen, farmhouses and sheds
* 30 tiles with gardens. Around 10 of them are clearly on a road. The others are in the middle of a field but not close to a road, if any.
91 + 10 over 412 represents around 25% of the tiles.

This means that C2 has twice as many features affecting tollhouses than the C1 adaptation.

Would you suggest doubling the amount of points C1 features give?

That could be an option...

You would also need to check the balance of junctions/crossroads with villages... The distribution is not the same in C1 and C2, starting from the base game: all junctions in the C2 base game feature a village (3x CRRR, 4x FRRR, 1x RRRR) but in C1, you will see that the 3x CRRR tiles have trees instead:
* Junctions with villages: 4x FRRR, 1x RRRR
* Junctions with trees: 3x CRRR

Another discrepancy is the CRCR tile in I&C.

All in all, if you check all the base game and all common expansions between C1 and C2, both major and minor, you'll only find 7 junctions with villages in C1 but 11 in C2.

EDIT: We are talking here about 7 or 11 tiles out of 307 :o

Who would have thought the Tile Reference tool on WICA could be so useful ...

Really? You can select features on and off for hours... Fun for the whole family indeed.  ^-^
