How are the competitions matches being played - with the online server, or linking to each other's PCs/laptops?

With JCZ 3.1.0 you just connect to a server and create/join a game there. No need to host a game yourself like before.

I'm not sure the online server is 100% stable although I've never experienced any problems with it personally. Most of the matches I've played recently have been hosted by individuals though.
So it's up to the individuals really.

There are some issues with online server: games are interrupted unexpectedly, sometimes because of using a chat (see, for example, this bug report (http://www.carcassonnecentral.com/community/index.php?topic=1399.msg19360#msg19360)). So for now I prefer "old school" host/connect mode :)

I never (or barely) used the chat so thats why I did not notice.

Host/connect is definitely more stable. I had some issues in games with jungleboy and Rosco, and I think not all of them were related to chatting. However, if there is an option to play and none of us can host, I'd rather give it a try than not. I had some really nice games on that server already, which worked out without any disturbance.

I wonder how it works
Host / connect .
