Online Games and Competitions / The old Carcassone online game...
« on: May 28, 2018, 06:08:12 PM »
Been trying to play my online games with the old Carcassonne app recently, and was told that the server was off line. Does anyone happen to know if they've pulled the plug on that option? Just curious. I knew it was coming sooner or later. Hoping that the newer app will eventually get to some of the added expansions. And I suppose, I can still play the old app locally. Still, a bit sad to see an old friend get cut.

First of all, welcome back Farin. And thanks for all the hard work on this app.

I got the latest version, and have a question about scoring. My opponent got a score of 50 in his farms when the game ended. I am not sure how he got that score however. He did have his pig deployed. So, I gather that meant 4 pts per completed city touching his farm. I only counted 8 such cities. But in any case, I can't see how he could arrive at 50 with a 4 pt/city rule. Oh, the final window only showed he had one farm.

It might be just me. I'm not the best with farms. I usually leave it to my son when I play.

Again, welcome home.

General / JCloisterZone... mia
« on: July 09, 2016, 11:03:53 AM »
I just noticed that the link to JCloisterZone is no more. I usually check in periodically to see what's happening with that game. Was there a particular reason why that section was removed? Just curious.  :o

I've recently had to reinstall the game on my newly repaired system. It's now running Windows 10, 64 bit. Previously, it was working fine on a Windows 10, 32 bit machine. Now, I keep getting the "invalid or corrupt jarfile" error, when I try to run the jar file. Oddly, when I try to run an older version of JCloisterzone from a thumbdrive, it works just fine. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

JCloisterZone FAQ, Suggestions & Bug Reports / Night mode...
« on: November 16, 2015, 09:19:00 PM »
First of all, thank you Farin for all your hard work on this. Definitely a work of love, and it shows. I love it. Thank you, thank you, thank you.  :(y) :(y)

I do have a question, though. Would it be a difficult task to be able to change the background from white to something else? Say a darker color? I'm not even thinking of a texture pic, say a table top. That would be extra nice. But, I'm just thinking about something to ease the glare of the bright white off these ancient eyes of mine. A nice peaceful dark green, perhaps? Just an idea.

Please keep up the great work!

The Marketplace / WTB Carcassonne Suite of Uitilites Disk
« on: June 19, 2015, 12:07:21 PM »
A few years ago, long before the apps on our phones, and tablets, I purchased a disk from a company 2die4games. It had the meridan game, along with a set of utilities to add isometric, 3D meeples, etc. Over the years, I have lost the disk. So I cannot install the extras on my PC version. It is the Meridan/Deep Silver version.

The link to 2die4Games is still there. But the option to purchase from them no longer works. Does anyone have a disk that they would be willing to sell? I'd love to get it again.

If you do, suggest a price, and I'll see if I can meet it.

Thanks.

General / New Art vs Old Art...a Solution
« on: February 14, 2015, 05:47:43 AM »
As someone who tends to be a "complete"-ist, I have been wondering what to do about the new art. Should I start down that track? Or should I just stick with the old art for as long as they are available. I'm sure they will be around for a long time. And if I do buy the new art, how do I integrate their different look?

I have a proposal. Maybe, if we mix the new and old together for play, e.g. playing with 2 base games, we can have a house rule that old cities can only be completed or added to using old art tiles. And new art cities can only be added to by new art tiles. We would then have "old" cites, and "new" cities. In so doing, the new art would be concentrated and not really clash with an adjoining tile. Depending on your feelings about the new tiles, you could even award more pts for a new city, or an old city. The roads and fields would not be affected by this rule. So, we would still juxtapose new and old road, and field tiles. However, field color can vary from tile to tile, much like the patchwork fields of the countryside without clashing.

Not sure how this would look. Not even sure playing with 2 base game makes any sense. But what do you think?  :green-meeple:

General / My Impossible Dream...
« on: February 09, 2015, 05:36:51 AM »
OK, here goes... this is something I wish I had the skills to make real.  Hence, "impossible". But I thought I'd throw it out there with the hopes that just maybe, someone might be there to run with it. Or let me down gently that it is truly impossible.

I dream of seeing a computer version of our beloved Carcassonne that is 3D. Not 3D as in glasses etc. The tiles would be have solid features on them, i.e. city walls, roads, etc. And they would be rotatable as well as zoomable. You'd place them on a three dimensional virtual play field, that you can view from any angle. Something like the XBox version, but with actual walls, etc.

I know this would entail a heck of a lot of programming. But wouldn't it be nice? Something like JCloister, with solid 3D tiles. The old PC computer version of Carcassonne had 3D meeples, actual animated figures. But the rest of the tile details was "flat".

Sigh.  Am I tilting at windmills?  :-[

Official Rules / The Builder..
« on: February 01, 2015, 03:15:17 AM »
Please forgive me if this question has already been asked. We recently added Traders and Builders to our gameplay. And so far, everything is well explained in the CAR.

However, there is a basic question we had. Here's the setup. You already have a thief on a road. It is your turn. You place another road piece to extend that road. You now decide to place the Builder on the road you've just extended.   Here's the point were we are confused. Do I get my second turn immediately, having just played the builder? Or do I have to wait until I next time I extend the same road?  In other words, does placing the builder end my turn. And I have to wait to extend the road with the builder on a subsequent turn, to trigger the double turn?

Strictly speaking, "extending the road with the builder on it", would imply, that my just adding the builder is not extending the road. And when I did extend the road by laying the tile, it did not literally have the builder on it then. So, "extending the road with the builder on it" would seem to have ro be on a later turn.

My apologies if I'm overthinking this. Or not explaining it correctly. Just want to be sure we're getting it right.
