Anything Else / Re: Other Hobbies than board games

Instead of painting it white to match the walls, that shelf would look better IMHO if you stain it.   I like stained wood, but my wife wants to paint everything white for some reason.

I am really into geocaching.  In case you don't know, it is using a GPS or a phone app to find hidden boxes "caches" all over the world.  Some are just tiny containers with a log book and others are bigger and contain miscellaneous items for trading (usually little cheap toys).  It gets me and my son outside and it gives me something else to do when I go hiking.

One year before I started geocaching, I took a trip to Berlin.  I went to Sony Plaza and saw the big Lego Giraffe there.  Somewhere near that giraffe is one of the most found geocaches in the world.  I kick myself that I didn't start the hobby just a bit earlier.

Other Games / Re: New board game for my son
« on: March 10, 2016, 04:18:02 AM »
I have both games.  My wife and son love both.  He prefers Colt Express, she prefers Cacao.  I think both are great games, but I will tell you that we play Cacao probably twice as much as we play Colt Express.  The reason for that is we mostly only have 3 players.  Cacao is a great game for 2, 3, or 4 players.  Colt Express gets exponentially better the more players there are and is not much fun with only 2 people.  It is a really good fun party game that draws others in.   Some may not like Colt Express because it uses programmed movements.  We like this mechanic, but you may not.  Make sure you at least watch a Youtube review before buying.

If you are an expansions person, Colt Express is the clear winner here.  Right now there is a Stagecoach expansion and a Delorean Time Car (which we own).  Neither are required to play, but are really cool.  There are 2 more on the way (Marshall & Prisoners and Indians & Cavalry).  Cacao has expansions, but from what I have seen you have to remove part of the game to use it.   I like that Carcassonne expansions add tiles and game length whereas the designer of Cacao seems to want to keep game length short.

I ordered Das Fest and the German Castles from Cundco.de.  They sent me "the River" with the castles :-[

I am the lone voter who doesn't own either.   I think I will pick up Halb So Wild II the next time I order something from Cundco.  I'm not sure how often new min-expansions show up on the site, so it may be a while before I get them.

So I need the White Goblin edition.  Amazon UK has either edition for the same price, but in the US, the mold free edition is twice the price.

I just learned about the mold vs mould spelling difference.

I want Medina, but am afraid to buy it online.  The only person I know who bought it had mold all over the pieces.  According to BGG he is not alone

I didn't think you could use it to yank a barn or shepherd  because they aren't followers.  I checked the rules and you can.  Cool!

News and Events / Re: New Magazine and new tiles?

I'm not going to order it.  So ha!  You can all make fun of me 4 months from now when it is selling for $30 or €30 on Ebay.

Any wild guesses as to what the rules might be? :)

Any meeple on a road, city, or cloister connected to the maze scores the feature, but gets removed from the game.

It's one tile for the old artwork and one for the new (according to spielbox themselves).

SPIEL DOCH! is PLAY with a demanding PLEASE, something like DO PLAY!

Thanks!  Merited!

It would be great if the magazine cover had Klaus-Jürgen Wrede juggling the new edition and the offshoots while dropping the old edition on the floor.   :P

I can't tell if the new tiles are the new artwork, the old artwork, or for the Star Wars version.  Google translate didn't exactly help.   If I wait to find out what they are, will it be too late?

If the tiles are what is shown on the cover and its just a maze of roads in old and new artwork, not sure what that would do.

Official Rules / Re: Crop Circle questions
« on: March 04, 2016, 09:04:00 AM »
I see it now.

I had printed off 131 which says "When a player performs action A), he or she must deploy the follower to a feature
which already contains a follower of the same type (farmer to a farmer, thief to a
thief, knight to a knight)"

You don't have to do option "A" at all.  Got it.  Thanks!

Ok thanks Dan!

I was looking at the v7.4PDF and it used the word "must".

My son, who is anti-farmers, has so far loved forcing his mother and I to add farmers to our already owned fields which forces us to keep 2 meeple in reserve as opposed to one.  If placing the meeple is optional, removing a meeple from the farms will be his best play.

Other Games / Re: KICKSTARTER (watch your purses)

Steam Court is basically a fancy version of the game called President/Asshole/Scum etc that you play with a regular deck of cards (and that we used to play at university). It takes this basic game that's super easy to teach and play and adds a cool theme, great artwork and a few other cool things (such as special powers for each player, special cards etc). Plus there's a really beautiful wooden box that you can pledge extra for.

So I'll have a think about this one too.

I decided to back this.

I am torn.  It looks really well done, but most of the reviews say you need 4 to 10 players.  On most nights we play with 3.  I also wish there was more than just cogs on the playing cards.
