Title: WikiCarpedia: Official Updates
Post by: Maj. Frost on November 02, 2018, 02:26:30 AM
Greetings from WICA team!
We have been working on WikiCarpedia for two months now, I decided it is good moment to post some update.
During those days we have been establishing many guidelines for WICA to be clear and consistent. We are in pretty constant communications on Slack channel. Supporting, advising and mocking each other.

http://www.wikicarpedia.com

Just a few notes:

As always we welcome any new editors/translators with open arms. Even you have no time for that, you can still help by simply using WICA and commenting with “Add comment” button that is on the bottom of each page. Also please spread the new among non-CarC friends.

Big thanks to Wolnic, Sinscerly, MeepleDrone and Decar for their participation and devotion to the project!

Any remarks are welcomed.

Looks like a fantastic job, thumbs up !  :(y)

I can't seem to evaluate the job it would take to translate it in FR, but I guess I would help if it comes to that

What would be the way to export to PDF ? I thought I would be clever enough to figure it out myself but ...

Thank you. Saving to pdf single page is no problem. With simple printing tools that every browser has. The problems starts when you try to export many pages at once and add TOC with pages (and some other stuff).

We've been discussing for weeks how to deal with this jewel. We'll keep you posted when we reach a conclusion  ;)

Thanks for the heads-up.

Hi all,

I wanted to share with you one of the features you'll find at Wikicarpedia (http://wikicarpedia.com/index.php/ (http://wikicarpedia.com/index.php/)) and that we hope that will help you survive in the Carcassonne world so full of expansions: the Game Reference (http://wikicarpedia.com/index.php/Game_Reference (http://wikicarpedia.com/index.php/Game_Reference)).

It allows you to select expansions (fully or partially) from three editions of Carcassonne: the 1st Edition, the new Edition and the Winter Edition. Once you make your pick, the Game Reference sections update automatically so you get an adapted Carcassone Reference Guide to meet your needs. The Game Reference includes:
  • A Game Reference summary
  • A detailed description of the Preparation phase
  • A detailed description of the Final Scoring phase
  • A detailed description of the Order of Play to be used in several phases during the game: the River Rounds, the normal Game Rounds and the Extra Abbey Round
  • A detailed summary of the Scoring During the Game, applicable to the Order of Play rounds
  • A detailed summary of the Scoring After the Game, applicable to Final Scoring phase

Besides selecting expansions, you can also find other features such as:
  • Filtering out the expansions of a particular Carcassonne edition you may be not interested in.
  • Select expansions belonging to a particular Big Box, for example.
  • Clearing your selection or selecting all the visible expansions with just one click
  • Deciding what edition rules and graphics (if available) you want to see, that is, your preferred edition.
  • Highlighting all the rules that belong to other editions than the preferred one.
The Game Reference page relies on the Expansion Selector at the very top that is organized in several tabs:
  • "Expansions" tabs: The first three tabs from the left allow you to pick expansions in full or partially when possible:
    • Tab "Major expansions": lists all official major expansions by HiG.
    • Tab "Minor expansions": lists all official minor expansions by HiG and some of their licensed equivalents.
    • Tab "Other expansions": lists the rest of licensed expansions as well as some unofficial ones.[/li}
  • Tab "Quick Selectors": allows you to choose from a predefined list of available expansions sets.
  • Tab "Filters": allows you to choose what Carcassonne editions are displayed and your preferred edition. It also allows you to activate the highlighting feature.
  • Tab "?": provides a short user guide.
I invite to try it and share your comments. Thank you in advance.

Cheers!

I'm not able to get the Game References selection to work. Everything just says "Transmogrifying...". I'm running Safari 12.0.2 (latest edition).

Also, the home page says "First Edition rules" but that isn't accurate. The First edition only refers to the original game and, specifically, the original rules for Farming. I am not sure if you have the original Farming rules anywhere (you definitely should, if not) but I'd use some other term than "First edition" to refer to the older art. Perhaps "First Generation", "Doris Mätthaus Edition", or "Mätthaus Art Edition"

I'm not able to get the Game References selection to work. Everything just says "Transmogrifying...". I'm running Safari 12.0.2 (latest edition).

I'm using Safari 10.1.2 on Mac. This is probably your browser cache that needs to be refreshed. Hold Shift while clicking Reload, or press either Ctrl-F5 or Ctrl-R (⌘-R on a Mac). Let me know if this woks for you.

Good point! In the Carcassonne world, as you mentioned, the word "edition" has multiple meanings depending on the context:
This leaves a gap regarding how to refer to Carcassonne I, so to speak. We tried to avoid the term "Old Edition", in contrast to "New Edition", as we assumed that HiG could surprise us with a "New New Edition" some day. So we opted to refer to Carcassonne I as "First Edition", so the current "New Edition" could become "Second Edition" eventually, and so on and so forth.

For the same reasons, we avoided talking about "old artwork" and "new artwork", so we never have to face an "old new artwork" situation.

So this is the rationale behind the naming convention. In any case, I shared your remarks with the whole team to open a discussion.

Regarding the three editions of scoring rules, we haven't included them yet, but it will happen soon.

Thanks for your comments.

Cheers!

Hi cidervampire,

I finally added this variant to the Wikicarpedia Variants page, completing the info and rewording a bit the rules too.

Short announcement

Up to this point I was the only one holding the keys  to WICA.

Today domain and hosting have been transferred to new home in GoDaddy cloud hosting. Access credentials will be hold by four of its admins.

This is to secure continuity of service in case of unexpected events.

Hi all!!

The WICA reference pages have been updated for the the following Carcassonne editions: the old edition, the new edition and the Winter edition.

On the main page (http://wikicarpedia.com (http://wikicarpedia.com)) and the Winter Edition hub (http://wikicarpedia.com/index.php/Winter_Edition (http://wikicarpedia.com/index.php/Winter_Edition)), you'll find new entries covering:
  • Game Reference: A description of the game structure organized in phases according to the expansion selected
  • Order of Play: A detailed description of the player's turn according to the selected expanions
  • Scoring During the Game: A summary of all features and events that can be scored during the game according to the selected expansions
  • Scoring After the Game: A summary of all features and events that can be scored at the end of the game according to the selected expansions
  • Game Figures: A detail summary covering all the figures according to the selected expansions
All these entries benefit from a Expansion Selector located at the top of each page. It allows you to select full expansions or just parts of them in order to configure the game reference pages according to your preferences and needs, even combining elements from different editions as required. Adaptations between editions can be highlighted as a visual aid.

Additionally, two more pages are available for the old edition:
  • Summary of Rule Sets & Changes
  • Scoring: A Historical Perspective
All your feedback is welcome.

More to come soon...

Cheers!

Hi all,

WikiCarpedia (WICA) was updated to include the most recent additions to Carcassonne from Essen 2019:

* The Spiel 19 tile (along with the previous Spiel tiles)

http://wikicarpedia.com/index.php/Spiel_Promos

* The Tollkeepers:

http://wikicarpedia.com/index.php/The_Tollkeepers (http://wikicarpedia.com/index.php/The_Tollkeepers)

* The new Carcassonne Maps rules and all the Map-Chips rules

http://wikicarpedia.com/index.php/Carcassonne_Maps (http://wikicarpedia.com/index.php/Carcassonne_Maps)

Notes:

For the time being, both the German and English rules in PDF format available on Cundco.de contain several mistakes: mistranslations and mismatches between both languages, missing rules in English, errors in images in both versions,... A total delight!

The corresponding WICA pages provide a reviewed version of the text and corrects those images with errors, The text was reviewed in order to provide an align set of rules using the German version as a guideline, when possible, in case of mismatch.

I also sent HiG a 7-page document with comments covering the mistakes I found and a few clarification questions. As soon as they reply and/or provide updated rules on Cundco, I will update the Carcassonne Maps and Map-Chips pages accordingly.

Cheers!

Hi all,

I have referenced all the questions of the Advent Calendar Quiz 2019 from the WICA Quizzes page, so you can directly access any question by number or expansions included. They are grouped in their own section for easier access.

Hi all,

I just came across this post by Kettlefish:

http://www.carcassonnecentral.com/community/index.php?topic=3384.msg58360#msg58360 (http://www.carcassonnecentral.com/community/index.php?topic=3384.msg58360#msg58360)

So after reading...

In the BigBox6 we remembered HiG to put the Abbot into the first row, but forgot to put the Abbot also in the second row (with the flying machines). The Abbot can only land onto a monastery/cloister and onto a garden (CAR footnote 385, from 03/2015).

...I just updated the WICA Abbot page to reflect this comment. So no open issue anymore about why the abbot could not be a flier as per the Order of Play in Big Box 6.

http://wikicarpedia.com/index.php/The_Abbot (http://wikicarpedia.com/index.php/The_Abbot)

Hallelujah!!!  O0

PS: I was wondering why this last week a third of the WICA visitors consulted the Abbot page... Is it that exciting? Are the rules such a crap? If anyone has a clue, please let us know.  ;)

Hello dear development team:

I was wondering if there was a tile reference section available on the website ? I have a feeling I saw one once but I can't seem to find it back.

For CI or CII, I think it would help, it was available on the CAR to maybe make it easier to implement.

Bonus point:

Also a stupid question I was wondering: If we play with expansion dragons and expansion hills and sheep, what if dragon lands on a tile with a sheep painted like on River III for example ? If there is action gather flock, should we score point for the sheep ? That would seem counterintuitive since it should be eaten, but poor sheep is just painted on tile. I don't think it was ever discussed.

Hi totor66,

It is something that I started working on, but it is a little clumsy at the moment, and hasn't been updated for about a year.

meepledrone and I were discussing how we should develop it further, mainly in terms of whether it was possible/sensible to code it so that you could select individual sets of features from across some, or all, of the different expansions - such as "show me all tiles with cloisters, or trade tokens" - rather than just by individual expansions. This is something we know we have to get back to.
Title: Re: WikiCarpedia update
Post by: Meepledrone on January 17, 2020, 09:56:04 AM
My internal discussion regarding goes like this:

The current Expansion Selector falls short as we need:

1. The base game should be an additional option
2. Each expansion should allow you to select its tiles in full or by groups (normally associated to a primary feature). For example:
     * I&C (18):
         a) Inns (6)
         b) Cathedrals (2)
         c) Rest (10)
      * T&B (24):
         a) Trade Goods (20)
         b) Rest (4)
      ...
      * H&S (18)
         a) Hills (8 )
         b) Vineyards (8 )
         c) Rest (2)
3. It is also necessary a second level of filtering related to secondary features available in many tiles: pennants/coat of arms, monasteries, C1 farmhouses, C2 gardens, C2 highwaymen, C2 sheds (various types), C2 farmhouses, C2 water towers,...
4. There are primary features that work as secondary (tie-in) features in some other expansions: pig-herds/pigsties, volcanoes, inns,...

So I have to make up my mind about how the selector has to be organized to avoid redundancies and also if it should be compatible (and add-on) or a separate one of the existing one...

Any comments are welcome...  ;)

Hi all,

I had three interactions already with HiG and I just reported two final typos and some comments on the Selling Wine action for Carcassonne  Maps - France.

You may have noticed that the Carcassonne Maps rules on Cundco.de were updated several times as a result of this process on Jan 14th 2020, Jan 23rd 2020 and Jan 24th 2020. Hope the final version is released this week.

The process has covered typos, wording issues and several major issues such as:
* Inconsistencies between the German and the English rules:
   - Same actions assigned to different phases
   - Discrepancies in the scoring rules
   - Missing sentences and paragraphs in the English rules
* Error in some example images

As a result:
* Some clarifications only present in the German rules have been also included in the English rules.
* The paragraph describing Large Cities has been restored.
* The Map-Chip placement rules have been revised (France, Benelux, Iberian Peninsula and Germany).
* The action to sell wine has been placed in the same phase in both languages (France).
* The action to get meeples back from the Isle of Man has been corrected (British Isles).
* The scoring of treats collected has been reviewed and aligned (Iberian Peninsula).
* The meeple upgrade action has been placed in the same phase in both languages (Germany).
* The updated rules use "coat of arms" instead of "emblem," so the English rules by HiG are closer to ZMG.
* The ambiguous use of "town" to refer to small town and city segments on the border is removed.

You'll find all these updates already in WICA.

Hi all,

I just moved this topic to the "Official Rules" board and made it sticky so it appears at the top section.

I also created another sticky topic called "WikiCarpedia: request corrections or submit suggestions here" so you can find a centralized place for your suggestions and requests for WICA. Your feedback and comments are also welcome. Here is the link just in case:

Thank you wolnic for suggesting this after a conversation with cicerunner and thank you everyone for helping us improve WICA.

The Ferries for C2 has been updated to clarify the rules involving the placement and repositioning of ferries. The ZMG rules are confusing at times so the version incorporates some additional information found in the German BB6 rules.

An additional footnote in C1 has been added:

Hello people!!!

I've recently revisited the following topics:
1. The scoring events that may happen during the placement of the River
2. The dragon movement
3. The rounds of scoring for Mini #2 - The Messages.

As a result I have updated a few parts of WICA covering these topics:

1. Scoring events while placing the river

During the river placement, some expansions may allow you to score points. So far I had considered the fair 1-point bonus, but you can also receive points from:
* Performing a "Guide flock the stable " action: you place a shepherd and you score the flock on a later turn after extending a field by the river
* Scoring an abbot placed on a monastery or garden by the river.

This update affected the C1/C2/WE Game Reference page:
* C1:
http://wikicarpedia.com/index.php/Game_Reference_(1st_edition) (http://wikicarpedia.com/index.php/Game_Reference_(1st_edition))
* C2:
http://wikicarpedia.com/index.php/Game_Reference (http://wikicarpedia.com/index.php/Game_Reference)
* WE:
http://wikicarpedia.com/index.php/Winter_Game_Reference (http://wikicarpedia.com/index.php/Winter_Game_Reference)

2. The dragon movement

I revisited the dragon movement for C2 and find out the English rules were misinterpreted, so the official rules by HiG did not change between C1 and C2. The dragon moves after 2. Placing a Meeple. As a result, I updated, and improved in some cases, the pages affected.

* C2 The Princess & the Dragon: Reworked the section dealing wth the volcano and the dragon tiles. Rearranged the info there and added the missing phases to make clear the turn sequence. Also improved the tables with the dragon's menu and the dragon's diet to group entries by type: meeples, special figures, neutral figures, tiles & tokens.
* Summary of Rule Sets and Changes: Updated the dragon movement entry and added clarifications on the misinterpretation of the rules.
* C1/C2/WE Order of Play: Created separate boxes to cover the dragon movement, corrected the logic to remove the dragon movement after 1. Placing a Tile for C2 originated from the aforementioned misinterpretation.

See the pages here:
* C2 The Princess and the Dragon:
http://wikicarpedia.com/index.php/The_Princess_and_The_Dragon (http://wikicarpedia.com/index.php/The_Princess_and_The_Dragon)
* Summary of Rule Sets and Changes:
http://wikicarpedia.com/index.php/Summary_of_Rule_Sets_%26_Changes (http://wikicarpedia.com/index.php/Summary_of_Rule_Sets_%26_Changes)
* C1/C2/WE Order of Play:
   - C1:
http://wikicarpedia.com/index.php/Order_of_Play_(1st_edition) (http://wikicarpedia.com/index.php/Order_of_Play_(1st_edition))
   - C2:
http://wikicarpedia.com/index.php/Order_of_Play (http://wikicarpedia.com/index.php/Order_of_Play)
   - WE:
http://wikicarpedia.com/index.php/Winter_Order_of_Play (http://wikicarpedia.com/index.php/Winter_Order_of_Play)

3. The rounds of scoring for Mini #2 - The Messages

After revisiting the clarifications about Mini #2 - Messages from 05/2014 and 10/2014, the exchange with HiG confirmed that messages where received at the end of each round of scoring, after all the scoring events have processed. So scoring figures landed on dark spaces were only taken into consideration at that moment (after all scoring was completed for that round of scoring). This tiny bit of information caused some ripples that affected how messages were triggered.

The following pages have been updated:
* Mini #2 - The Messages:
  - Updated section "Rounds of Scoring" for C1 and C2 to include all the new scoring events introduced by new expansions since 05/2015
  - Updated section "Rounds of Scoring" for C2 to include all the information related to rounds of scoring avoiding unnecessary footnotes.
  - Updated footnotes for C1 to provide additional information about the rounds of scoring.
* Order of Play
  - Reviewed anything related to the MESSAGES action: updated the wording and the placement in phases 2. Placing a Meeple and 3. Scoring a Feature.
  - Additionally, took the opportunity to review the entry for Watchtowers (wording) and Tollkeepers (wording and action sequence).
    - Tollhouse token scoring groups of travellers are turned over once the scoring is done in phase 3. Scoring a Feature

See the pages here:
* C1/C2 Mini #2 - The Messages:
   - C1:
http://wikicarpedia.com/index.php/The_Messages_(1st_edition) (http://wikicarpedia.com/index.php/The_Messages_(1st_edition))
   - C2:
http://wikicarpedia.com/index.php/The_Messages (http://wikicarpedia.com/index.php/The_Messages)
* C1/C2/WE Order of Play:
   - C1:
http://wikicarpedia.com/index.php/Order_of_Play_(1st_edition) (http://wikicarpedia.com/index.php/Order_of_Play_(1st_edition))
   - C2:
http://wikicarpedia.com/index.php/Order_of_Play (http://wikicarpedia.com/index.php/Order_of_Play)
   - WE:
http://wikicarpedia.com/index.php/Winter_Order_of_Play (http://wikicarpedia.com/index.php/Winter_Order_of_Play)

If you have any questions or comments, just let m know.  ;D

Dear all,

As a result of the ongoing questions by Carcassonne93, a number of clarifications and improvements were incorporated to WICA:

Major expansions

* Exp. 3 - The Princess & the Dragon:
   - Review of dragon movement
   - Review and inclusion of additional info about and dragon's menu/diet
   - Review of interactions with The Tower and The School.
* Exp. 4 - The Tower:
   - Note on meeples on top of a tower
* Exp. 6 - Count, King & Robber:
   - The Count of Carcassonne:
     - Addition of missing restrictions in ZMG rules
   - The River II for C2:
     - Renaming of "pigsty" (as in ZMG rules) to "pig-herd" as in C1 to avoid confusion with C2 pigsties in relation to Markets of Leipzig and Tollkeepers scoring.
   - The cult places/shrines
     - Added notes about actions triggering and stopping challenges
* Exp. 8 - Castles, Bridges & Bazaars:

This is war! To the barricades! Let's burn HiG HQ to the ground!  ;)

It would be great if they maintained an official FAQ or something with all the clarifications left out of the printed rules. It would make everyone's life easier...

I understand the clarifications would be longer that the rules themselves. A price to pay for so many expansions and therefore possible interactions.

Everything is gathered, discussed and evaluated on this forum. They only have to say yes or no, or choose A, B or C. How difficult can it be for a publisher that earns so many thousands of euros on a game they release themselves? If you, Meepledrone, can do it in your spare time, it is totally unacceptable that they cannot do it in their working time...

HiG is not paying attention to its customers and fans. And that is not the way you do business...

They can do whatever they want... but we want more expansions...  ;)

More clarifications would be okay too, by the way.  :o

That’s the idea... I think he is working on it...
That will be brilliant!

I have often thought whilst using Order of Play that a pdf - very close in style to the official rules documents, as the Order of Play and related pages are in their output - would be a really useful way to keep a snapshot of a particular combination of expansions.

You are still able to print to PDF is you are using Chrome.

You can print individual pages to PDF but not a full guide with selected expansions in one go.

You right.
I'm printing to PDF these three pages:
1. Order of play
2. Scoring (currently I'm using new scoring per feature - test - still hoping that will be changed scoring with Castle)
3. Scoring at end of game.
These 3 PDF stored in PC because when we play in cabin, sometimes internet is not reachable ;-(

Than we have offline version of rules of all of our official expansions ;-)

when you are in the expansion selectors, you can actual print the selected expansions. But that's not the "official rules page".

I think I remember that something could be done in pdf with the selected expansions.

Yes. But there is not such a thing as official rules, because all of official rules for expansions cover basic game, some big expansions, and usually none of not numbered mini expansions.

Standart sentense in all expansion rules:
however this has not yet been tested and you’d have to try it at your own risk, without any official rules

This is what we call the "Watchtowers disclaimer" that started it all:
* Rules with base game in mind only.
* No additional clarifications after 2015.

Who cannot love this?  :o

Hi all,

The Land Surveyors is now available on WICA:

http://wikicarpedia.com/index.php/The_Land_Surveyors (http://wikicarpedia.com/index.php/The_Land_Surveyors)

It includes some consideration about its combination with other expansions.

The Timeline page has been updated to include it too but there is still some pending work to include the new scoring tiles in the reference pages.

I will keep you al posted.

Cheers!

Hi all,

Just out of a whim I added the rules inside the box for the Demo Spiel Promo from 2015. This is the small promo that came in a little blue box with 20 small tiles and 8 mini meeples in red and blue.

I updated the following pages:

* Demo Spiel (new page):
   -
http://wikicarpedia.com/index.php/Demo_Spiel (http://wikicarpedia.com/index.php/Demo_Spiel)

* Timeline (switched link to rules):

* Variants (added link to rules):

Mixed with everything else?

Carcassonne Maps are supposed to be played with vanilla tiles only...  :o

uhm are you sure ? I am almost positive I saw they recommend to add a couple expansions to fill better the maps (the bigger the maps, the more expansion)

The Carcassonne maps rules (available for download on Cundco's website) says the following:
Quote
Tiles | We recommend playing with the base game tiles and the first and second expansion. Of course, you can combine everything you want to try. For each map there is a recommendation of a number of tiles you could use. It is better to play without the additional rules and meeples of the expansions and to use only the tiles.

That means you can combine any expansion to have the number of tiles needed for a specific map, but should play only with the base game rules. With this condition, including the maps in  WICA's order of play wouldn't make any sense.
Using the expansion's rules could be fun, but that's at our own risks and there will be no clarification for any situation that is not covered by the base game.

Greetings

Hi all,

There is a lot going on in WICA but today I will just highlight one of them away from the world of Carcassonne rules I use to update you all about... We have a new page dedicated to Digital Versions of Carcassonne.

http://wikicarpedia.com/index.php/Digital_Versions (http://wikicarpedia.com/index.php/Digital_Versions)

I would like to thank our fellow forum member carlium for his contribution.

You may remember his thread on this subject here a couple of weeks back:

Hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

Hi all,

It's been a while (May 15th :o) since I don't share with you the latest updates to WICA.

Hope you may find interesting new pages such as:

* The official PnP fan expansions
   - Easter in Carcassonne for C1
   - The City Gates for C1
   - The Fortune Teller for C1 and C2
* The Visual Timelines for C1 and C2 created by Murphy013
* The Digital Versions of Carcassonne compiled by Carlium
* The Demo Spiel
* The PnP Demo

You may also find a lot of pages have been translated into Dutch (by Kiap1969), French (by Black Bear), German (by Murphy013), Romanian (by Carcassonne93), Russian (by Levetator) and Spanish (by me - only a few :-\).

A number of visual improvements have been introduced too: images of box covers, punchboards of mini expansions, general layout of C2 pages,... Murphy013 is working hard to collect images for every published box and mini. Some of the results are already visible in all pages.

Regarding contents, an on-going improvement process is taking place as to wording and the addition of clarifications in text and with examples... The input of the team is being invaluable; while translating, they are also proofreading the C2 pages. You may also see the myriad of questions posted as comments on many pages by Carcassonne93 and some visitors that may point out the need for corrections or additional clarifications. Thank you all for your enthusiasm!

Why on WikiCarpedia it is used the style "Word word word <ref>Text</ref> word word. <ref>Text</ref>", and not this style "Word word word<ref>Text</ref> word word.<ref>Text</ref>" (which is used on English Wikipedia - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Help:Footnotes#Footnotes:_the_basics )?

Most of the reference links on Wikipedia are to citations or source references and occur singly, rather than footnotes as we use the function. When we were converting the CAR, we found there were many occasions where there were multiple footnotes relating to the same sentence (five was not uncommon), so we put each one on a new line so that it was easier for us to see them when applying corrections or working with them in the editor - having several long references in the same paragraph as the text made the content almost unreadable.

For a new page "Carcassonne Collections and Expansions" page 312-315 of S-CAR 7.4 i would request your help

Refer http://wikicarpedia.com/index.php/Collections_and_Expansions

Instead of a green check mark/red cross we show now the Box or when not possible the cover.

The entries for German, English, Dutch, French and Russian should be complete.

The Czech contains all Mindok-Games, but not the Albi-Games.
The Italian contains only a few Giochi Uniti and less Venice Connection Games
The Polish contains only the second edition games. Spin-offs and first edition are missing

Of course I used Boardgamegeek as source, but many others sources too.

So please look in the list and help to fill the gaps or provide other languages. Of course you can also send me links to the images.
You can send them to Murphy013@web.de
It is pleasure to me to add them into the list.

The images should have at least a height of 500px, Big boxes 600px and Tower/Catapult 700px. That mean the boxes and not the images itself.

Thanks for your support!

Now it is officially linked to the main page. I guess we have now ~20 languages. My special thanks to all who posted me links.

I still find edition and add them continously.

I'm still looking for following editions, if they exists:
   - C1 Tower (Dutch/Polish/Finnish) with tower symbol on the box
   - Minis 1-6 (Romanian)

The yellow marked edition don't have the quality like the others. If you can provide links to better quality images give me a link. They should show the same like the current. Means when there is box shown a box in better quality would be perfect.

The WICA team that you all enjoy the overview and we hope that you aren't frustrated when you try to collect them all.

If he have enough space he can get them all.
When he have all the basegames and all the first 4 expansions. the rest is kindergarden.

AND of course the list doesn't show all. I found an australian edition. As well Thai, Hungary, Greek, Hebrew, Korean and many other are missing. ;-)

Try to get them all

At the moment I do the last check against BGG.
They had a lack of data and meanwhile I created there about 50 versions and much more images. How could that happen on BGG?

Please keep in mind that I had help. I wanna Name only Carium, BlackBear and Carcassonne93 and hope that I haven’t forgotten someone. In that case i apologise

Out of a whim I created this page to simulate the Land Surveyors scoring tiles on your PC, tablet, or phone while playing.

Hi Gagoune,

Welcome to Carcassonne Central! You are most welcome to enjoy the forum and join the WICA team.

I will send you a PM with some information so you can get started. You are also lucky since there is another very active French member in the team: Black Bear.

In the meantime, just let us know about the type of games you like and what expansions you prefer to use...  ;D

Cheers!

Hi all,

Hope you all have enjoyed a good summer vacation.

It's been a while (June 27th :o:o) since I don't share with you the latest updates to WICA.

Hope you may find interesting a new treat we added, the online
Land Surveyor Simulator (http://wikicarpedia.com/index.php/The_Land_Surveyors_Simulator) (available on the Main Page, section Tools), that will allow you to play this expansion without creating the scoring tiles and getting your hands dirty...  ;)

You may also find some additional pages translated into Dutch (by Kiap1969), French (by Black Bear), German (by Murphy013), Romanian (by Carcassonne93).

Last but not least, here you are a summary of the updates you may find in WICA:

I'm very impressed with the work on WikiCarpedia. It's a vast resource that I will count on for any questions and disputes. Thank you for creating and maintaining it.

Hi Kirk,

Thank you for your kind words. I'm glad to hear you find it useful. We have put a lot of enthusiasm into it. It is a living project and we are always looking for new stuff to add or improve.

For example, although maybe nobody would care at this point, I just updated the rules of The Catapult after finding out that the rules for the Seduction token were mistranslated by RGG (you can actually seduce one of your own meeples not only someone else's) and the HiG original rules and a FAQ by HiG (available online until 8/2017) confirmed that. :o

I know this is a distressing piece of news! Hope you can process it properly ;)

Cheers!

Could it be because of the update that I have problems? I can no longer open https://wikicarpedia.com in google chrome. It does work with Internet Explorer.

Hi,

I'm able to open it without any problem with Google Chrome. Is your Chrome version up to date?

We moved the server to a different ISP. Maybe your DNS server hadn't refreshed last time you tried. I've tried Chrome, Safari, Opera, Internet Explorer and Edge successfully. Please try again.

Hi Windekind, that sounds like an DNS problem. The old wikicarpedia had no https and GoDaddy.com blocked all traffic that came from that.
As we are almost 24hours further, that should be fixed(as mostly DNS resolving should be fixed with some hours worldwide). Do you still have issues with connecting to either http://wikicarpedia.com or https://wikicarpedia.com?

Both sites report this problem.
It says:
400 Bad Request
Request Header Or Cookie Too Large
nginx/1.18.0 (Ubuntu)

Or is the problem in my program? Setting problem?

That looks like some restriction being applied by the nginx proxy server. Is that installed on your home (or work?) system? It's a few years since I worked on nginx so would have to look at documentation.

Hi all,

Hope you all are well and doing fine!

It's been a while again (September 17th :o :o) since I don't share with you the latest updates to WICA. It's been just like the blink of an eye,,,

I already broke the news about some of the additions associated to releases happening at Essen Digital 2020, but here you are a number of improvements and changes introduced including all the new pages covering new expansions:
* Cathedrals in Germany for C2
* USA West & East Maps
* Spiel'20 Tile
* Winter Edition River

Carlium has also been working hard to keep up with new launches and added them o the Digital Versions page. He also added two more spin-offs to WICA: CardCassonne and The Dice Game. So if you play with them, you can check the rules online too.

GagoUne has been also translating a bunch of pages to French and even created some PDF files with rules in French for some minis based on WICA. Great job!

Carcassonne93 has been keeping the Romanian translation of C2 pages up to date almost instantly after every change... So Romanian visitors, you must feel lucky!

Murphy013 continued to update the huge Collections and Expansions page with all the new releases.

Last but not least, I just released a first version of the Tile Reference. It was about time since wolnic and I started to work on this like a zillion years ago... So have fun with his new feature, were you can list tiles by expansion, topology (edges), and even filter tiles by features to be considered. It covers C1, C2 and WE.

Well TileReference. Nice job! Another private project is going to be gone ;-)
Ok. I'm man with numbers of suggestions.
1. When I'm searching for "Volcano" tiles, it will be good to hide all other tiles, not blur them.
2. Expansions names on left can be links to their pages
3. What about meet the JCloisterZone clarification where for example FFRR and FfRr means that fields are same and road same and FrRR means that road are devided ?
- examples FfRr basic game FrRR tower
4. Dividing C1 and C2 tiles hmm, I'll join in to same table. But it's my point of view ;-) All of us have mixed collection of tiles, so when searching some tile, than you have to check for first one section for example CCCC in C1 and then in C2.

anyway GREAT JOB guys (I know why ;-))

I have spoken.

Well TileReference. Nice job! Another private project is going to be gone ;-)
Ok. I'm man with numbers of suggestions.

Not at all. I've been pondering many options and I have many ideas still in my head, but I wanted to release v1 to get some feedback... So thank you beforehand.  ;D

1. When I'm searching for "Volcano" tiles, it will be good to hide all other tiles, not blur them.

I wanted to add some options to the "Filters" tab:
* Features listed if all present vs. if any present (the latter is the current option)
* Hiding tiles vs. blurring tiles (the latter is the current option)
* Hiding expansions with no tiles visible vs. showning expansions with no visible tiles (the latter is the current option)
   - This one has an issue: the total count for expansions with no visible tiles 0/N will not be displayed so the total counts per expansions will not add up. I already tried this and it was somewhat confusing:

* A: 1/3 + B: 0/10 + C: 1/2 = Total: 2/15   <-- 0/10 visible
* A: 1/3  + C: 1/2 = Total: 2/15  <-- 0/10 hidden

I have to add the input fields to control this options yet.

Hiding tiles was my first option before blurring them but I found interesting knowing there were missing tiles because of the options I had chosen.

2. Expansions names on left can be links to their pages

This can be added... But this is also missing on the selectors for all the reference pages.

3. What about meet the JCloisterZone clarification where for example FFRR and FfRr means that fields are same and road same and FrRR means that road are devided ?
- examples FfRr basic game FrRR tower

This could be be cool to add, but maybe too much info for the average visitor... This could work as edge configuration subgroups.

This reminded me of this wonderful topic:
http://www.carcassonnecentral.com/community/index.php?topic=4350.0 (http://www.carcassonnecentral.com/community/index.php?topic=4350.0)

4. Dividing C1 and C2 tiles hmm, I'll join in to same table. But it's my point of view ;-) All of us have mixed collection of tiles, so when searching some tile, than you have to check for first one section for example CCCC in C1 and then in C2.

My initial idea was to implement 6 arrangements for tiles:

1) Edition / Edges / Expansions (the current one)
2) Edition  / Expansions / Edges
3) Edges / Edition / Expansions
4) Edges  / Expansions / Edition
5) Expansions / Edges / Edition
6) Expansions / Edition / Edges

But I decided to include only one arrangement to get all the basic issues sorted out for the time being. You are talking maybe of options 3 or 4.

anyway GREAT JOB guys (I know why ;-))

I have spoken.

Thank you!  ;D

So glad you liked it.

Tile Reference. Nice job!
Another private project is [...] gone ;-)
You summed it up nicely. My very first private project was to try and create a tile reference for inexperienced players. And, very shortly after I joined CarcassonneCentral, Wolnic and Meepledrone were kind enough to support me by supplying the (then not quite complete) data describing all the edge configurations on tiles. I did create a thoroughly useable Google Sheet to allow a user to check the availability of a particular tile edge configuration (but didn't promote it here because it was incomplete.) But now of course you have done it so much better!

Which brings me to my feature request; can you add an option to hide all the detail on the tiles so that a simple reference list is produced. Like this:

CCCC ( City, City, City, City ): 0 / 4
CCCF ( City, City, City, Field ): 0 / 6
CCCR ( City, City, City, Road ): 0 / 3
etc

The above uses the current format of the text line describing each group of tiles. In a perfect world the following would be even better:

CCCC : 4
CCCF : 6
CCCR : 3
etc

The list you describe would be more like a tile reference cheat sheet, right? You could use it for tile counting too...  >:D

It would. And you could ...

But my needs are much more innocent. Although I actively avoid learning the tile distributions - to make for more balanced play with casual players - inevitably, just by length of experience, I have acquired some knowledge. I'd like to be able to put together a small game - eg base + major + mini + mini - and hand my casual playing friends the 'cheat sheet' for the tile distribution - this would give them the advantage of perfect memory but still leave me with my strategic edge ...

If nothing else it would stop my friends accusing me of "only winning because you know all the tiles!"

I appreciate that the current implementation of tile reference is a little slow to load (?) so perhaps rather than implementing this by hiding all the unwanted information it could be done as a separate, faster loading, page with just this information on it - linked to from the same tile selector?

A subtle extension (which by the way I implemented in my Google Sheets version ;) ) would be to allow selection of multiple copies of the base game and expansions. This would be useful on the existing full information version too I think.

The core part of the tile list is +750KB in order to be able to display or hide any tile configuration for all sets, expansions and their versions.

This new tile listing would require a more detailed selector (a number per expansion) and a shorter page, faster to load...   ;)

There is a way to load it faster >:D >:D, but Meepledrone wouldn't let me do it :-[

I found a way to load it faster, without obstructing editors from seeing "outdated" content. To bypass cache when you're logged in. But I will try to implement that this week and hope it works.

Ha ha ha!

You tried to gaslight me while creating the Tile Reference... I spent a whole weekend viewing pages that didn't match the text I was editing... Very puzzling...  ;)

Even so I got it done... Using several browsers and flusing my browser cache all the time... Very recomendable to exercise one's patience...  >:D

Seriously, I hope this new approach works great.  :(y) :(y)

New update:

Currently fixed the issue for caching when people are logged in.

Note, the Wikicarpedia requests to a browser to local cache to. So there are less requests when people visit the same page over and over again (within a decent time frame).

A lot has happened since the last update on WICA... I lost track of the passing of time these past few months.

We have new pages for:
* The Peasant Revolts
* The 20th Expansion

And also updates to the the following pages to keep up with the 20th Anniversary Edition in C2:
* The Base Game: now it includes the 20th Anniversary tile distribution and some notes on the role changes (for example, highwayman renamed as female travelers, or monks can also be nuns)
* The Farmers: now it includes some notes on the role changes (for example, farmers are female now)
* The River: now it includes the 20th Anniversary River and some notes on the role changes, and the river tiles from CutCassonne
* The Abbot: now it includes some notes on the role changes (for example, abbots can also be abbesses) and the new tiles with gardens

As a consequence, there are some updates to the Reference pages regarding the new expansions, along with some changes due to clarifications related to Halflings and double-sized tiles.

I'm waiting for some clarifications from HiG. Once they reply, more changes will be required.

Until then, I leave you with a new experiment I'm putting together: A reference page consolidating all the clarifications. So far I have implemented Expansions 1 to 3. Let me know if you find this interesting to save some time when trying find information about a particular interaction.
