Colt Express
« on: February 19, 2016, 03:50:23 AM »
When I was at Draughts in London with Dan and Decar, we saw someone playing Colt Express. Decar knew about it and he explained it a bit to me. I love trains and I thought that both the train robbery theme and especially the actual train were really cool. I'm not really into the wild west at all, except for one thing: I love the Back to the Future movies and the third one is set in the old west. Anyway, a few days ago I watched a video review of the game and decided to put it on my buy list. Then I found out just yesterday that there is a new expansion on the BGG store with the Delorean from Back to the Future 3! It only cost $5 ($8 with shipping), so I just bought it. So I guess there's no going back on Colt Express now, I'll just have to get the game!

Does anyone have Colt Express and do you like it?

If you don't know it, here's the Drive Thru Review of it (Drive Thru Review is my favourite YouTube board game review channel even though others like Dice Tower have more subscribers):

I've not been able to play it yet, but it looks fun with lots of players.  It's worth mentioning it was the Spiel des Jahres Winner 2015.

Maybe we can play it at the Oxford meet up if non-Carcassonne games are allowed.

Sounds good to me. I'm open to playing pretty much anything; Carcassonne or otherwise.

Mrs_danisthirty may be joining us at Thirsty Meeples too and this looks like the sort of thing she might be keen on :(y) So let's just please make sure there's no discussion about how much money has been spent on certain items recently! :-X

Haha. "So Mrs Danisthirty, I bet you're delighted with that 70-point scoreboard for a bargain price of £200. Less than £3 per stone!"

Edit: I hope the real price wasn't this much :)

Maybe I like it, this is a photograph of my living room.

Maybe you do not know, but you can play this game on BoardGameArena, perhaps we could arrange a game :)

I have also created some cards that facilitate the use of the time car.
A knight is sworn to valour.
His heart knows only virtue.
His blade defends the helpless.
His might upholds the weak.
His word speaks only truth.
His wrath undoes the wicked.

 :white-meeple: My works.

What I also like is how the horse and stagecoach expansion (well, at least the horse aspect) also plays into the BTTF3 theme, because Doc, Marty and Clara all used horses to catch up to the locomotive. And the fact that one of the characters in the game is called Doc!

My family loves this game.  We bought the Delorean, but it hasn't arrived yet.  We may pick up the stagecoach if it ever goes on sale.

We play with the following House Rules.
1. Only a child or a first time player can be Ghost.  His ability is the best.
2. Belle's ability doesn't work on Cheyenne

Most of you mentioned you all love 'Back to the Future' - apparently there's a boad game coming out, so I thought I'd mention it here (rather than start a new thread which you might miss).  Here's the video taken from Gama last week:

I played this the first time today. Because I played it at work with colleagues, and because it was the first time any of us had played it, we only managed to squeeze setup + rule-reading + 2 rounds into our 1 hour lunch break. However, this was enough to give us a flavour of the game and we're hoping to be able to hit the ground running with it tomorrow lunchtime and get a full game in.

Because I've only played half a game of it so far I'm not really very well-placed to comment on how the game works other than to say that as a group of 4 it seemed to work well and we all had fun. My favourite part of the game was when a colleague and I were up on the roof of the train on adjacent carriages. I shot him and he climbed down into the carriage, then got shot by another player and punched by the other. We were all laughing hysterically by this point, so I'm really looking forward to seeing what else this game has in store for us tomorrow lunchtime (expect a report)...
