Thanks for the information, kettlefish!

Any chance for full results of The Championshps? I'm interested about Polish participant... I had lost to him in Polish final 2 weeks ago.

You can view the Spielbox special edition for Essen 14 here, if you're interested:
http://www.nostheide.de/sbdig/sb14special/

You can also get it from their shop for €1.30 if you need to feel the paper :)

Herner Spielezentrum (tounament booth from HiG - Hall 1 F122) at facebook:

day 4 - Sunday

with photos from the World Championship.

The participants played with the Carcassonne New Edition during the tounament. Only the final game still has the classical graphics.

Were the world championships held using Carcassonne 2.0 rules? I don't really know what the difference is to be honest but aside from the Abbot I've heard mention of Gardens which I have no idea about...

Gardens are one of the things Abbots can be placed on (they can also go on cloisters). It's a new feature. I forget the rules for them, though.

I've called with Thomas (Herner Spielezentrum). He told me that the championship rules were the same as the years before. No rule change this year, perhaps next year...

They played with the standard base game rules.

Thanks for this kettlefish!  :(y)

So the winner of the uk championship came 34th  :(n)

Even Latvia's champion came 20th despite coming 3rd (I think) last year.  :(

It must have been very exciting to watch!

How did they get there??

It varies I think. I don't know for sure but I imagine some will have driven, others may have got the train and some, especially those from further afield, will probably have come via plane.

and no doubt some used the magic portal tile from Princess and the Dragon -  but I think he was asking who beat who? to get to the final
