Title: Would like to buy: Wheel of Fortune (new)
Post by: danisthirty on December 03, 2015, 06:58:22 AM
Hello everyone. :)

As the topic suggests, I would quite like to get my hands on a copy of Wheel of Fortune for Carcassonne. I already have the version that comes with Big Box 5, but because there are differences between the two versions, I’m still after the original whether this be the German version with booklet or the English version without it.

I’d prefer it to be brand new (in sellophane) if possible which is obviously going to make it somewhat harder to get hold of, but I’m not in a huge hurry so this isn’t a problem for me. All I ask is that if anyone out there does happen to spot this either in their local games store or even online, please let me know so that I can check it out.

Thanks!

Non-English version accepted, in case I find such?

I bought a German version new in shrink just recently through the "ebay kleinanzeigen" (small ads) in Germany for (IIRC) €10.  (www.ebay-kleinanzeigen.de).  There's no alert facility (I think) but it's worth popping in there very now and then to see what's on offer.  Things don't seem to sell terribly quickly - I've had a few bargains there.

If it's shrink-wrapped and includes the booklet then I'm interested, but please let me know the price beforehand if you find it. ;)

Right now there are about 400 entries for 'Carcassonne' of various flavours (including several Cities in wooden boxes, btw, at €50 / €65) but NO Wheels of Fortune.  There is one Wheel of fortune book (novel?) though.

I bought the German version of Wheel of Fortune at a games shop in Bern earlier this year, so I could possibly find one for you the next time I'm there or elsewhere in a large city in German-speaking Switzerland. Swiss prices though, so it probably won't be your cheapest option.

There's one on Amazon.US for $50, but I'm guessing you'd rather not pay that much.

last I heard there were lots of Dutch versions available from the usual Dutch websites.  I'll see if I can locate the site I found.

I've also been looking for this and I sure hope I didn't take this out of Danisthirty's hands, (I would feel bad about that). I bought one of the two copies available from AmazonUS. As it stands there's still one copy there.

It is a bit pricey but copies on this side of the pond are fetching higher prices than that.

Thanks CKorfmann for the post!

I can't believe you'd do that to me! :o ;)

Somebody else pointed this out to me yesterday too. I felt pretty dumb not to have checked somewhere as obvious as Amazon but I don't usually bother anymore as there's rarely any point (it's a foregone conclusion that they won't have anything interesting available).

The price put me off a bit too, but I managed to justify it to myself in the end and placed an order back when there were still 3 available! :(y) Seems like just yesterday now...

So with that in the bag, I can at least update my profile when it arrives! Whether the completionist monkey that sits on my shoulder, constantly reminding me how painfully incomplete my Carcassonne collection is will ever persuade me to get another copy of this purely so I can have the book/ novel remains to be seen, but it seems likely that he'll get his way eventually. ::)

Thanks for your help everyone. It's very much appreciated! :)

The German book/novel can be found here: http://www.ebay-kleinanzeigen.de/s-spielzeug/carcassonne-buch/k0c23 for €8
They do say "collection only" but I've found most people willing to put small items in the post.

I gave the book to my brother (who speaks some German). I can get it back and regift it to you if you like Dan. Actually, he lives in London, so you could just get it from him yourself. Wouldn't it make for an amazing crime mystery if you burgled his house, taking the book and nothing else? The police would be baffled! :)

Thanks JB. :(y) Please PM me with his address and I'll start looking into getting hold of a crow-bar and a balaclava. I can only assume that this is still considered the standard equipment for burglars nowadays.

PS: Rosco - don't read this

Received my copy today with a very quick turn around of about one week, cheers!

Hey guys! I wish I would have seen this thread back in December. Wheel of Fortune is one I am missing form my collection too.

The only way I see it on Amazon (US) right now is for $119, which is out of my price range. ($50 seemed like a good deal compared to what I have seen elsewhere).

If anyone sees this in the $50ish or less range, would you mind letting me know?

It's always a hunt for these rare ones :)

I recently purchased replacement parts via Amazon from Gameshelf. This company bought BB5 and posted me only the WOF parts (which is the 28 tiles that don't come with the base game). This is how I managed to finally get hold of this without needing another mortgage!

Hey Carc-a-holics!!  Not sure if this is legit, but it seems possible.  I just stumbled across this seller on Aliexpress.com.  Apparently you can buy what appears to be a Chinese version of Carcassonne base game, Wheel of Fortune base game expansion, and a 5-expansion multi-pack that includes "tower/catapult/count/king/chaser expansions", plus 2 rivers..... all for US$26.99 with free shipping to the US.

Anyone know anything about this?????    Sounds too good to be true.

I just examined it a little further.  I guess you have to choose the "color", which is really choosing either the base game, a wheel of fortune game, or the chinese 5-expansion combo.  Either way, you can get the Wheel of Fortune for about $26US shipped free to US.

Yeah, not legit  :(n)

Funny enough I found this site just the other day but didn't spend anytime exploring it.

This is just one review, (from a Canadian buyer).

These tiles are thinner than genuine Carcassonne tiles. Best to shuffle them in a bag when drawing. The Count, King and Robber tile set is missing the heretic shrine tiles. Also, the numbers on the back of the 12 tiles that make up the city of Carcassonne are not in order. Overall this is an OK reproduction and let's you play the Catapult and Tower expansions which are either out of print, or hard to find.

There were also complaints of torn tiles on the back of tiles.

I looked through some other board games on this site and while some were 'reasonably' market priced there are some games like Ticket to Ride for 17.99 or less, delivered  :o

I think the Dutch version from 999 games is still easy to find. The only problem is that you would get the wheel in Dutch, obviously. But I guess for the completists who already own the language independant wheel from BB5, it shouldn't be too much of an issue.

Also, CC have provided a really good Complete Annotated Rules document complete with an explanation of WOF for anyone who did get a Dutch version
