Title: Dutch and Belgium Monasteries (De kloosters) [Status: Shipped]
Post by: SRBO on September 30, 2014, 10:14:41 AM
Hello Dear Carcassonnians (carcassonnais)

There is a new Monastery set with Dutch and Belgium Monasteries.
They use the same mechanics as the German ones.. They only have new Monasteries and are a nice addition to your collection.

In the webshop of 999 games (the dutch publisher of Carcassonne). I found they sell the cloisters.
You can order them at me by sending me a PM. (See costs below)

Quote
The monasteries: (free translation)

Trappist Abbey of Westmalle (Westmalle, Belgium)
Leftup

This abbey belongs to the order of Cisterciënzers, which was founded in the 11th century.
This order simply and conveniently called 'Trappist', after the Normandian abbey  La trappe.
They still are very know because of their beer.

The Abbey of Averbode (Averbode, Belgium)
Rightunder

This abbey belongs to the order of Prémontré, which was founded in 1121 in North-France Prémontré.
Referring to that place the members of the order are called 'permonstratenzers'.

Saint-Trudoabbey Brugge (Brugge, Belgium)
Leftunder

The Saint-Trudoabbey is a cloister of the Regular Kanunnikessen of the Holy Grave, which is located since 1954 in the castle of Male to Male, Saint-Kruis Brugge.

Cloister Huissen (Huissen, Netherlands)
Rightup

Cloister Heilig Hart (Steyl, Nederland) (Holy Heart)
Rightmid

Abbey Onze Lieve Vrouw van Nazareth (Brecht, Belgium) (Our Dear Lady of Nazareth)
Leftmid

Costs:

Each expansion cost €3,00
The whole order then has to be shipped to me, so that will be shared amongst all buyers.
Then comes the package costs and the shipping to your country..

This is a tricky part, because each package has a certain weight. and you pay for the weight. each expansion is 66 gram (in plastic)

All in all this will result in the following costs to international delivery: (this is the final cost)

50-100 gram
1 expansion : € 7,50

100-250
2 expansions : € 13,50
3 expansions : € 18,00

250 and up
4 expansions : € 25,50
5 expansions : € 28,50

These are the payments you make to me.

I almost make no profit out of it (just a bit for unexpected cost)

I hope you all understand.

I can't believe the expansion only costs 2,99 € and people are trying to trade it for rare expansions like Corn Circles I and The Cathars.

Would anyone from the Netherlands be willing to order some copies for CarC members? Or maybe Carcatronn will have the Dutch cloisters in his shoppe soon?

I'm interested, BUT I have a question.. :)

If I have both the German and the Dutch version, can I use them in the game at the same time, or not? Because I don't buy tiles that are extras.. I put them all in my tilebag.. :)

Would it be vise to use them both at same time or is one enough?  ???

The original rules state you have to replace a regular cloister with a German monastery - if you put the regular cloisters and German monasteries and Dutch monasteries in your bag I think this would be to much cloisters - but it is possible of course and it's your choice ...

Hmm... Yes you are right.. It would be quite a lot churches indeed... hmm...  :-\

I have to think about this... :) Maybe one set of the German monastery is enough for me... gotta sleep on it.. :)

The more expansions you have, howhigher the value of the cloisters get. As a collector  i want them. To.play with doubles is something to.think.about. they would.be the most valuable features in the game next to a pigfarmer

Maybe you could add all "cloisters" you have into a bag and blindly draw the number you want for that particular game e.g. 6 for the base game, 10 if you use a few expansions etc. You could then get a random assortment of German, Dutch and Belgian monasteries, regular cloisters and shrines/heretic places depending on what you add to the bag.

That is actually quite a good idea! :) Then I just have to remember at the end of the game to take the monastery tiles to the side for future games, instead of mixing them into the tile bag with the rest of the tiles.. :)

Hmm.. Yes there always is the collector point in this.. Hmm...  :-\

Let's say I'm interested... If you order heaps of monasteries, will the shipping cost get skyhigh?

And the final cost would be 3 euro for monastery, plus shipping cost devided with all who order, plus shipping cost to Finland? :) You think it would fit in a flat envelope? Maybe some toilet paper around so it wont get damaged? :)

Those plans have not yet been revealed, but I suspect Monasteries for at least France are in the works. I'd say it would be a big mistake not to have French Monasteries since the game is...well...French in the theme. Or rather Occitan/Provençal. Italian Monasteries would also be fun, but I feel that is somewhat less likely. Perhaps Spanish ones will come out, though.

Perhaps, but Britain has two problems: first, their distributor is in the US (ZMG), and, second, Britain has demolished most of its old monasteries. I suspect Spain or France will be next. They are the next biggest distributors with an actual Catholic history.

It just hit me that some of these monastaries might be trappists. Is that so? If so then I need to get hold of these as well. Now, I think poor SRBO has enough to deal with, so I hope that these will be made available internationally. Who is the publisher?

The store which sells these will not ship abroad, was that correct?

Thanks SRBO excellent work. Like the photo of your mass order, that would've made for a very dull game of Carcassonne! 162 Monasteries: Not my idea of a fun game, even in a mega carc game of nearly 500 tiles (plus these 162 making it 662 tiles) that's nearly a quarter of the tiles!

Thanks also to Danisthirty for distributing the UK sets and cutting postage!

I just got my set trom 999 games. I compared The rules of The CAR with The dutch rulebook and The rules are the same if i'm not mistaken.

However: they made a mistake.

On the first page the lower picture is incorrect. The cloister is placed  faulty.

Lets hope 999 games corrects this soon. That way we all get a collectors item.

And here's the pic. One lonely abbot, seperated from the road by some faulty placement. Doomed to live out his live in total isolation, with only 17000 gallons of belgian beer to keep him company.

Mmmm, Westmalle!

Trappist beer is the best there is! Of course, my favourite being Westvleteren, but Westmalle is probably third or fourth on the list, depending on the mood of the day.

Thanks a bunch for this!

What is the difference between Dutch/ Belgium monasteries? I should probably know but haven’t been following this thread closely enough, If they are two different things could I have one of each please?

You get 1 sheet with 4 belgium Monasteries and 2 of the netherlands (dutch)

To be honest i hoped for 3 belgium and 3 dutch..

@Duncan90 - I had the same question. Both monasteries are on the same sheet...

EDIT: Looks like SRBO beat me to it with the explanation!  :(y)

So today I played a game with the Kloosters, Traders & Builders, the Ferries and the phantom. I won each of the three trade goods, had the biggest farm (with pig), completed the biggest city, and generally won every conventional aspect of the game. My opponent drew all six Kloosters, placed an abbott on all six (!), and scored 130+ points with them to win the game by 10 points.

So the moral of the story is that I am not happy with the Kloosters at the moment.  >:(

Hello Dear Carcassonnians (carcassonnais),

The monasteries: (free translation)

Trappist Abbey of Westmalle (Westmalle, Belgium)
Leftup

This abbey belongs to the order of Cisterciënzers, which was founded in the 11th century.
This order simply and conveniently called 'Trappist', after the Normandian abbey  La trappe.
They still are very know because of their beer.

The Abbey of Averbode (Averbode, Belgium)
Rightunder

This abbey belongs to the order of Prémontré, which was founded in 1121 in North-France Prémontré.
Referring to that place the members of the order are called 'permonstratenzers'.

Saint-Trudoabbey Brugge (Brugge, Belgium)
Leftunder

The Saint-Trudoabbey is a cloister of the Regular Kanunnikessen of the Holy Grave, which is located since 1954 in the castle of Male to Male, Saint-Kruis Brugge.

Cloister Huissen (Huissen, Netherlands)
Rightup

This cloister, positioned near Arnhem on a terp behind the winterdike, was the home of the Dominicans in 1858. In that time it was nothing more than a manor house. It got expanded soon with 2 wings and a chapel.

Cloister Heilig Hart (Steyl, Nederland) (Holy Heart)
Rightmid

Many Germans moved from 1875 to this monastery, because they had to abbandon their homeland, because of the Kulturkampf. Father Arnold Janssen founded a mission house in Steyl, that grown till an impressive monastery clave. There were housed three monastery orders. this is one of them.

Abbey Onze Lieve Vrouw van Nazareth (Brecht, Belgium) (Our Dear Lady of Nazareth)
Leftmid

Founded by the cisterciënzerabbots in 1945, after in 1797 the Abbey Nazareth at Lier was destroyed. In this region, this order is known as the abbey of 'trappistinnekes' (female trappists). The people there deals mainly with the making of candles en such. It also contains a big sewing workshop, where vestments are made.

I've updated it. Can somebody english or american check the grammar on this?

Hello all,

I Want to clear something out:

Each expansion cost €3,00
The whole order then has to be shipped to me, so that will be shared amongst all buyers.
Then comes the package costs and the shipping to your country..

This is a tricky part, because each package has a certain weight. and you pay for the weight. each expansion is 66 gram (in plastic)

All in all this will result in the following costs to international delivery: (this is the final cost)

50-100 gram
1 expansion : € 7,50

100-250
2 expansions : € 13,50
3 expansions : € 18,00

250 and up
4 expansions : € 25,50
5 expansions : € 28,50

I almost make no profit out of it (just a bit for unexpected cost)

I hope you all understand.

Today there are many many new orders, i will wait just i few days more, so i can all buy and send them at once.

greetings

Steven

The rules are identical to The Monasteries in Germany, but the little history captions about the various monasteries are different. That probably doesn't matter for rules, though.

- Have you done that? if so, do you have photoshop file too? would be fast then just change the tiles, i don't see reason to do 2 last pages to dutch version.

Or, i just search dutch version rules, and just copy/paste the text...

Hi Hovari.

It was done by wamboyil. I’m not entirely sure how he did it but I’m guessing he either scanned the existing rules document and replaced the text, saving the result as a PDF, or there may be a template somewhere for it. I know there are templates available in the downloads section but I don’t know whether this would be included there.

What are you hoping to achieve? A translation of the history relating to the Dutch/ Belgian monasteries has been made available in English but I can’t place exactly where I saw it. Probably somewhere in the dim and distant history of this thread!

Hope this helps,
Dan

Here it is...

It would certainly make for interesting tile placement problems.  You want to maximize your rows and columns while minimizing your opponents' rows and columns.

I suggest to try to play base game, treating all tiles as German Monasteries. Indeed it would be interesting game!

Yeah, I found this out the hard way as I just ordered this one (which I already have) instead of the German monasteries - doh! Hopefully my email will get through to them!

 :(y)

On a serious note, I hope more of these monasteries come out as I've said before (especially France/Spain/Italy). So if/when that happens, it's nice to know that we should be able to get them from Cundco rather than needing a different SRBO for each country, even though we already have quevy for Italy :)
