« on: May 23, 2016, 02:56:47 AM »
Some pretty good nominations this year.  Good luck to HiG in the Children's category.

I need to try Imhotep and Time Stories before I can have an opinion.

I think Imhotep looks really interesting. I almost backed World Monuments on Kickstarter a couple of months ago because I like the idea of monument-building. But in the end after some discussion here I think we all decided that the mechanics of World Monuments weren't good enough. Imhotep takes (loosely) some of the same ideas and looks to have made a much better game out of it.

The Kennerspiel seems very interesting this year, Time Stories and Pandemic Legacy have both been massive hits; but I wonder if either game truly has legs.  As experiences, they're both very innovative, but once both have been completed there is little replay.  Time Stories retells a story and Pandemic Legacy leaves you with a Pandemic board.

Isle of Skye is in a very different league, it's a replayable game at least; but I'm not sure how innovative it is.  I've said it before and I'll say it again - it's Carcassonne Bazaars done right.

I've not played any of these games, but for the 'gamers' game' - I'm not sure any of these really hit the mark - still it will be interesting to see which is chosen.

I need to look at Imhotep.

For the main award, the last 2 years featured games I love (Colt Express and Splendor) competing against games I absolutely can't stand (Machi Koro and Concept).  This year, I really don't have a dog in this race.

The Kennerspiel is really what to look at this year.  Pandemic legacy has no replay, but you have to play it at least 12 different times, so it is a different animal.

Not sure, but I think, even at least 24 times, since there is a first and second half of each month?

Imhotep looks very good, but not sure I understand how 2-player would work.  There aren't many videos on it at the moment.  Fingers crossed for a Rhado runthrough.

No, there aren't. There's one by a guy who isn't very good at doing videos (yet), but at least it gives you an idea of how the gameplay works. It definitely seems like it would be better suited to 3-4 players. I guess we'll find out at Essen when we all buy it and a bunch of other games :)

You mean this Tom Vasal guy? >:D

I've seen a German review some weeks ago @ "Hunter und Cron". I must say, I'm not totally sure, that's a game I want to buy. Give it a try playing, sure. But there are many other games, the mechanisms appeal more to me at the moment. "5 Tribes", "Castles of Burgundy", "Quadropolis", "Caverna", to name a few. "Imhotep" feels a little bland to me.

Thanks Hounk - I've watched Hunter & Cron before - some of their videos have English subtitles; they've always seemed thorough.

It's not quite Rahdo, but Tom Vasel has a review up now. His review is very positive.

Finally Gamenight have done a decent video of Imhotep - it looks like a well crafted game, but I didn't get the feeling there was enough going on: especially 2 player.

Here's a link to the video:

Codenames too:

Karuba was done some time ago; no doubt you can find it if you're interested (y).
