It's time for:
As I described in the ACCGSC-thread (http://www.carcassonnecentral.com/community/index.php?topic=2846.0) there are 2 contests being run in parallel from: NOW until Sunday 7th August 2016 23:59:59 SST. No entries can be submitted after the deadline.
The Digital/Physical Contest
I'd recommend using JCloisterZone (http://jcloisterzone.com/en/) to set up your games, but you're welcome to play a physical game with real tiles and score tracks if you prefer.
This year's setup will include the following expansions/Options:
Please note, if you are playing a physical game:
- If you are using the new art style, the River and Abbot expansions should be removed
- You may use another coloured meeple to represent your Phantom, if you do not have a Phantom available.
- There is a subtle difference in rules between the original and new editions. Thus, abide to the rules of the edition you are using. (Hint: The New artwork edition has an advantage).
Contest Submissions
I should make clear, that contest submissions must include a screenshot from JCloisterzone, or other digital platform.
Physical Submissions MUST include a clear photo showing the entire board and scoretrack at the end of the game but with follower on incomplete features in situ - this way we can check your maths :)
Prizes
For the 'Physical Only Solo Contest' there will be 4 prizes. Again this will be different commemorative personalized tiles!
- The 1st Scoring Player
- A Random Spot Prize
- A Random Spot Prize
- A Random Spot Prize
The random prizes will be awarded as above. Up to 5-chances per player, plus an extra for a tweet including: #gencant #carcsolocon @carcassonne with their submission.

I want to contribute to that topic with the solocontest. It is weird to play like that but it spurs my ambition. ^-^
My current highscore is 551 pts, but this could be only the starting point for the competition. I made no proper plan for the farms layout in the end and didnt count tiles. Maybe I will do both for further tries ;) I guess 750 pts could be the maximum if everything works.
-
Next try with "city-walls" for farmer double counting... not so easy to plan. only 505 pts this time. >:(
Leven, show us how it works! 8)
-
First attempt was 507 - image can follow if it's the best I manage, but suspect I can do better.
-
Thanks for taking the time to play Adrornalin! It's a deceptive game with a lot of components to juggle! But I think 551is a good initial benchmark!
Wolnic, dont forget a screenshot next time, but glad you had a chance to try it!
Come on people it's been more than 24 hours and no one else has submited any attempts! There's not long left! I hope members aren't keeping their attempts for the last minute. Remember you want 5 entries for maximum chance of a spot prize!
-
Looking forward to trying this out as soon as I get home!
Gutted I didn't see it sooner! ::)
-
three more. but damn no highscore. the third try could have been 572 pts but for the cathedral city is missing one last tile..
-
Wow! That last attempt looks incredible!
-
My best attempt without counting, annoying not to cross 600, but 593!
Still not sure about the 12 pt farmer in the cccc-tile, probably costs too much in lost meeple placement.
-
Amazing score! You can add a width=400 parameter inside the img tag to resize it.
-
My 4 attempts so far...
-
Maximum is 562
-
Thanks Mr Numbers, now we've got some competition!
-
I like that last attempt with 562: two big cities with cathedrals and the rest is only 4pts-cities-wall.
Well done WhatIf, I really would like to see that screenshot but it doesnt show up unfortunately.
I think the highscore can go over 700, if nearly every tiny city is used two or three times by the farmers, if the cathedral cities are as big as possible without losing too many tiles for enough tiny cities, if the inn roads are as long as possible, and if you prepare the middle spot for all eight cloisters beforehand.
-
530 for a first attempt
-
577 - getting better
-
Second try, 497. This is fun :D
-
I've had two games of this now and this was the better one:
I'm sure I could have topped 600 but the second cathedral was late coming out, which shouldn't make a difference as I should have made a space for it in advance but I'm not that good at thinking ahead yet... ::)
-
Leaderboard updated!
Thanks for giving this a go everyone - who's going to be the first to breach 600!
-
Question: Do all attempts get recorded and placed in the ranking?
Because when you do that and award random places a prize, you can just play game after game with scores of 200, flood the ranking, and still be able to win something. I know most (if not all) of us don't think that way but it's just something I wondered.
-
Up to 5-chances per player, plus an extra for a tweet including: #gencant #carcsolocon @carcassonne with their submission.
And from the parent thread:
To win spot prizes, the maximum number of chances will be 5 per player, but you are welcome to submit more attempts. One additional chance will be given to anyone who includes #gencant #carcsolocon @carcassonne in a tweet with their submission. You can submit on twitter, here or on CarcF.
So yes, you can spam the leader board and you'll get 6 chances to win the spot prize. Sorry that's not clear.

Sorry about that, seems like a silly question now.
-
Not at all, I've clipped and changed the original post and split the threads, so it's made it a little unclear.
Happy to see all your entries, I can post them on twitter and show people what they're missing out on! ;D
-
New personal highscore with 558pts. But I always finish the cathedral cities too soon, that is why I think I wont break the overall highscore from WhatIf.
Maybe it is a farm highscore with 152pts, 22 out of 24 cities counted at least double, all 9 meeples are farmers, beginning with 9pts.
6 out of 8 cloister were finished, means 18pts are missing, and one bigger town with also 18pts I couldnt finish in the end.
558pts + 36pts = 594pts! ;D (I think this is called a naive fallacy)
-
I'm a bit addicted to this at the moment. I'm not getting any better at it, but I did almost manage to beat my top score just now:
I did at least manage to complete all the cloisters. Do I get a medal for that? O:-)
-
You win another chance of winning a spot prize, but seeing as you're in 3rd place, you'd win one anyway :(y) :(y)
-
First attempt: meager 501 points.
-
A marginally better attempt - 514 - and again by playing unplanned. Trying a more planned approach I seem to end up between 460 and 500 - over several attempts.
I also gave my AI opponents each a couple of chances. Purple Adda managed a fairly creditable 446, but generally they scored between 330 and 380.
-
Still not crossing 600, but here is raising my points by one to 594 and I´ll post an image, even if it´s large. Now to spend the rest of the night finding 600...
-
My first attempt: 568 pts
-
What If?, Rosco & Danisthirty have 1st, 2nd and 3rd positions at the moment. Will someone be able to breach 600 before Monday's deadline?
Keep the entries coming in. Every submission adds to your chances of winning the spot prize (up to 6 submissions if you tweet)!
Thanks to everyone who has taken part!
-
Welcome to the competition Leven! What's kept you?
I tried it as purple this time but it didn't help. :( Still, 11 times around the score track:
I know I missed a 9-point farm but with 4 tiles left to go didn't draw a single road tile that would let me connect to it...
-
Decar Senior always has a go: 529
& 560!
-
That's an impressive score Dan considering you had 2 meeple in hand and one city with both cathedrals in it!
-
Second attempt was even worse, 480 something, second cathedral came to late, and I still tried to finish it and was one city cap short of doing so.
Third attempt was only a slight improvement to the second one, thanks to poor farm scoring. Got overexcited about the second cathedral and even forgot my pig. (Although it would have been 8 points at best anyway.) Good work on cloisters on this try, though. 507 points.
-
Had a quick go. Great fun!....couldn't aspire to my handle though!
:yellow-meeple: 564
-
WhatIf, do you study city architecture? The current highscore layout looks like real building plan. Well done!!
-
one quick attempt without counting nor planning, personal highscore 565pts. far away from winners highscore.
-
So, finally over 600 with a grand total of 603!
On the good side, every shield came into a cathedral city, most open roads are one tile stumps and there is only two small unfarmed fields. But there is also a very annoying 6p-cloister, one unclosed inn-road and quite a lot of small city pieces so there should be more to be had, but this is my final attempt.
(and, yes, I almost learned how to shrink images, two good things in one day!)
-
finally today I could try this competition I had wanted to play.
after 3 games these are my two best attempts.
577 at the moment.
Tomorrow I will try a couple of more games.
-
Only 4 hour remain in this contest - this is longer than other #gencant contests but I've given everyone until Monday (American Samoa Time) to submit entries!
WhatIf? It's good to know there's still a chance for improvement, but better to know 603 is achievable. It nicely reflects the 30e highscore from last year....but there's still time to be beaten ;) ;)
-
My best attempt: 588 pts.
Actually I miscounted the tiles and expected a CFRR as last tile. By placing that into the hole in the center I could have reached 600 pts.
Congrats to WhatIf who did it.
-
A whopping 3 point improvement!
:yellow-meeple: 567
-
2 more from me, but nothing that's going to challenge any of the leaders. Still, a 2pt PB taking my best up to 574...
I need to break this addiction now so I'm going cold turkey. Well done to everyone who has taken part and a huge thanks to Decar for organising Carcassonne Central's gencant offerings this year (as well as last). I'm sure you'll agree it's been great fun and I already know that his Solomo variant is something that I'm going to be playing for a while to come! :) :(y)
-
OK, just one more... ;)

-
my last attempts at this i think
-
I have spot prize suggestions:
Most different scores posted between 570 and 575
Most different colours used
First person to score 572
Player with the (second) best beard
What do you think?

Best beard, ey?
This is a project i´m involved in, the video will be deleted in a few hours from now due to re-editing and stuff, but you may have time to see it and a quite grand beard, if I may say so myself. If you understand swedish, it´s a good song.
-
Out solo'd and out bearded by the same person! :-[
I've made a slight modification to my "special" winning criteria in light of that truly magnificent beard...
-
Player with the (second) best beard
That's the only prize I could potentially win. ;D
Reason: Very busy weekend!
Seems you guys had fun! I might try it a bit later. Congrats to the winner! :(y)
-
603, wow, impressive. O0
My last attempt resulted in a sh***y and brainless layout, full of mistakes. But new personal highscore 570pts. :o
-
Adrornalin - I'm afraid this entry was about 2hours after the deadline - unless you can work out when American Samoa's time was - on the plus-side you already had the maximum number of entries for optimal spot prize winning :(y) :(y)
What If - It's safe to say your a Carcassonne Solo Master scoring 603. It's a mightily impressive beard too, but I don't feel I'm qualified to bestow formally any titles worthy of it.
Dan there is at least one prize you get: Most number of sequential submissions:
Danisthirty - 575
Danisthirty - 574
Danisthirty - 572
Danisthirty - 571
Danisthirty - 569
Be happy knowing no one else managed to score between 569 and 575, you had them covered. :(y) :(y)
I'll be posting the final rankings and calculating who won the spot prize in a few minutes.
I very much appreciate the time taken to enter the competition and taking part in our Annual Gencan't competition; such events give our community a very large boost on the social-media circuits and let other people realize what a great community we have here. As a small thank you every entry will be given a forum-merit from myself. Please reciprocate if you feel I've earned it - though they have no worth they're a good way of giving people a wink for the work that they do and letting people know they're doing things you appreciate for the community.

I don't know if anyone else had this problem, but I took the challenge of scoring 600+ points rather more seriously than I intended to and as such have probably attempted this more than 100 times! :-[
However, after a score of 597 the day after the competition finished and a 596 yesterday morning I decided to have a few more games this evening as the addiction hadn't gone away and I knew it wouldn't until I'd achieved the impossible difficult. And so, it is with no pride or dignity that I post this, but 100% relief as I've finally broken free of my addiction and can have some of my life back! :@

If only I could have done this two weeks ago! ;)
In an ideal world, the score could have been higher still as I had 3 meeples left in my hand at the end of the game which might have scored between 3 and 6 points each if the last few tiles had come out in a different order. As it was, the little nest I made for the cloisters left me dangerously low on meeples as the second fffr came very late in the game (in fact, I only had my phantom left when it came up which meant I missed out on the 2 points for the road). However, this is certainly the best I'm going to do so I won't be trying to better this!
-
Lucky I forgot to lock the thread. A great achievement! I'm glad you'll be able to sleep for the next 50 weeks until next gencant ;)
-
@Dan: If I understand it correctly, you crossed 600 on this occasion when you got 611? No scores of 608 or such? I didn´t play 100 games, but I lost almost a full weekend and then, after crossing the 600-line I didn´t care anymore about my unfinished 3p road in sw or such and haven´t actually played a game for a week, not even IRL.
Well done!

Thanks. Yes, I was going for 600 too and gave up as soon as I'd beaten it. Compared to how close most of my other scores were, I wasn't expecting to break the 600 point barrier by as much as 11 points and would have been just as happy with 601. Everything just seemed to go well with this game (apart from the lateness of the final cloister).
