This is a poll to determine how people feel about, and whether they will buy, the upcoming Under the Big Top (Circus) expansion for Carcassonne in the new artwork.
I probably left out some obvious option like I always do, but don't you worry about that. Instead:

Done :black1-meeple:
I will buy it and I wont watch the postman everyday for it.
-
The worst part about it is the theme. With that aside, just looking at the rules, it has to be better than expansions 4, 6 and 7. Right? Right? I am cautiously optimistic.
-
Sadly I had to vote not interested. On the bright side, it does make the hurt of no more old art tiles sting a little less, seeing this be the first major expansion not to come out in the old style. Would have been a tough call to make had it been a really cool expansion.
-
Let's see if it is in the next Big Box.
-
Also voted for - I'm not that excited about it but I will buy it anyway
I hope it isn't in the Big Box nor do i think it would be included. I just don't think the expansion will be very poplar and they seem to go for more standard inclusion in the BB series.
We're way behind, on this side of the Pond on C2 expansions anyway so I expects its going to be awhile before we see either the Big Top or BB6.
-
They seem to always put the most recent expansion in the BB.
-
BB6 in any language for me. We all know the rules!
-
Anyway, I will probably buy the expansion eventually, but not anytime soon. The mechanics are okay, but not great (better than Catapult or Wheel of Fortune, but not much else). And the new art really turns me off. My partner really doesn't like the theme at all, so I may instead just fan-make something or re-appropriate the Catapult tiles to make this expansion without buying it. I guess I'm just not sure.
-
I also voted in the 'not interested' camp. I could eventually move to the Big Box 6 camp because Big Boxes are a good deal, but still, I doubt I would want to drop €50+ on something I don't really want when I can just blow that money on whatever Kickstarter game Chooselife wants me to back instead.
-
I voted other because the rules seem interesting, at least I would give them a try, but not with the elements of this expansion. I would rather adapt them for the catapult tiles (since they also include circus tents). :D
Actually it would be nice to have the circus tent figure and the director meeples but I can find substitutes for them from other expansions or games.
-
I'm in the same camp like JB, too. The rules might be intriguing, but nothing to really blew my mind. But new artwork and theme both turns me off. And I also think, I have enough variety in Carcassonne for the rest of my life, and there are so many other games, I could get instead (though I'm not into that kickstarter hunting), that the new design pretty sure cut off my interest in further expanding Carcassonne anyway.
-
I will probably buy it when it comes out. Im not thrilled by the mechanics or theme but do want to give it a try. I am not gonna buy a big box in new artwork, because i dont like it and dont want a base game in it. So ill probably buy the expansion and use it in my games every now and then
-
Is there an option to be so excited i bought two?
-
I won't be purchasing it, so I'm on the 'Not interested and not buying it' poll option.
In an ideal super completionist world, I'd probably pick it up if it was within a new edition Big Box, however I don't think I could justify it when 1) I don't think I want to get Carcassonne and all it's expansions again 2) The theme seems to be 'jumping the shark' to me so it's a turn-off (at least the terrible Catapult was at least somewhat medieval-themed!) and finally 3) my Wife will kill me if I get duplicate (in her eyes) Carcassonne-based board games, taking up even more shelf space! :p
I kinda feel like I've completed my (1st edition) collection so I'm happy without. Having said that, in a few years time, if I see a 2nd edition big box featuring multiple completely new expansions for a very cheap price................maybe.
-
I'm looking forward to this. Even though the modern concept of a circus is 18th century, the general idea of a travelling troupe of performers goes well before that. The historical roman circuses was all about showing off animals and gladiatorial skills.
I know quite a few RPGs including the Might & Magic series featured circuses as part of their plots.
-
Anyone else wish this were a Merchants & Troubadours expansion instead? I mean, ringmasters and the tents could just be replaced with merchants and town markets. The Troubadours could be the silly pyramid mechanic. I feel this was poorly themed and thought out and could have been implemented much better.
-
I voted not interested and not buying. I almost voted "Other" because there's a slight possibility I'll someday buy a few meeples and print out a hypothetical fan-made Carcassonne 1.0 version if someone made it (or DIY it some other way), but I highly doubt I ever will.
With T&B now in my collection, I think my Carcassonne purchasing is probably done. Like some others have said, I feel like I have plenty of Carcassonne variety (especially with randomizer cards!) and I'd rather use that money on other board (http://www.carcassonnecentral.com/community/index.php?topic=3050.0) games (http://www.carcassonnecentral.com/community/index.php?topic=2992.0) at this point.

+1 to this.

WIll instantly buy BB6, just hope it will contain this expansion but I'am almost sure it will, we have example with last big box and sheep and hill, and I think evern before there was always the last releases included.
Next step: Complete V1 and V2 :)

Couldn't agree more, Whaleyland! That theme would be way more fitting, either in the historical sense as in a aesthetic sense.
So, I will not buy this expansion either. I'll focus on adding those few mini-expansions still missing in my V1-collection.
-
I feel like there's missing an option, so I choose OTHER.
I am interested in the expansion, but won't buy it since it's not in the old art and I don't have anything in new art and won't get anything in new art. :blue-meeple:
-
Oh well, naturally more and more expansions will come out and be only available in the new art. I guess the amount of expansions will ultimately reach a threshold and I'll start the new edition, but I'm not sure when. Maybe big box 6? Really don't know.

I agree too! This is the winner, right here: an old-art-style fan-expansion version with Under the Big Top's rules but a Merchants & Troubadours theme. :(y) :(y)

The most interesting thing to me about the vote so far is that only one person said they didn't own anything in Carcassonne II but were looking forward to getting this expansion. In previous discussions about Carcassonne II, some people said they wouldn't buy anything until unique expansions came out. Apart from the watchtower mini-expansion (and Japanese temples which doesn't really count), this is the first unique expansion for Carcassonne II. But it doesn't appear to be getting those who were hesitant about v2 on board.
-
:)
Well I have 95% of the original Carcassonne games but if this is only coming out in the new artwork I am going to buy it to use occasionally.
I don't like the new artwork particularly and won't be buying the second eition. I have the Winter edition though. I have the catapult so may adapt to use.
Five bought with one to keep! Nice for Easter as I am eating chocolate year round!
-
Whilst the completionist in me will want this, even if this came out in the old artwork I probably wouldn't buy it!
I like how Z Man have tried to add some new flavours to the game, but I feel that they missed the mark. The theme of the expansion doesn't seem to go well with Carcassonne as a whole and seems a bit disjointed.

Just can't get into the new art. I thought it might grow on me after a while, but yesterday I was googling some river images, saw a thumbnail that looked a little odd, clicked to zoom in and then realized it was the CII river. I was sorta slightly shocked all over again at how childish and cartoony it looked. The new style has more detail, but less artistry, less character, and much less soul. My delicious homemade lemonade is being replaced with bright green Kool-Aid.
So I have to hold the line. We vote with our dollars, and I'm not going to vote for a visual downgrade. (Plus, the more anachronistic these expansions become, the less I care about them.)

The nail on the head. It baffles me every time as well.

Amen to that! Couldn't agree more. It started with Japanese Temples in the area of Carcassonne... Say again????

There's one or two options missing in the poll.
I chose Other as I know so little about it but will buy it.
-
I've voted for Other, I have the 10th expansion, but I didn't buy it. I did the correction reading for it (German). I am not a fan of the New Edition, but the tiles looks as good and I think the game mechanics are interesting.

It's not always easy to know all possible answers when creating polls. That's what Other is there for.
