At first congratulations to DrMeeple and Uhome for reaching the finals.  :(y) :(y) :(y) Well done.

As the other matches had drawings and a cool youtube video I think it isn't necessary as we have only two left  :))

Good luck to both of you; and when you're done playing your match please don't forget to post the results and any screenshots you have here on this post!

How to play a match in JCloisterZone

First you need JCloisterZone installed, check Meepledrone's guide: http://www.carcassonnecentral.com/community/index.php?topic=4561.0

menu's
This is the landing page for JCloister zone, in this menu you can choose between:
  • Local game:
    • New game
    • Load game
    • Connect
  • Play online

Local game
To get here, click New game or connect in the main menu.

Against AI
To play against the AI. Select first a color for your own by clicking on the meeple and fill in the name, then click double on a meeple that has not been selected to let the computer play that one.

Against another player on your computer
Select two meeples and fill in names.

Play with expansions
In the screen for setting up the game, it is possible to select expansions. Click on the ones you like to play with and there you go.

Connect
Info about how the connect function works is already described and I will not cover this part as this will go into to much detail. For connection only with the connect fill in the given IP address someone gave you and the correct port and you should see a Carcassonne setup screen for a game.

To setup to play with other people you need to configure some things, Dan's guide will describe more about this:
http://www.carcassonnecentral.com/community/index.php?topic=778.0

Play online
I have nothing to say about this, as MeepleDrone did the explanation about this in his guide already.

Leagues (including expansion leagues) / 2020 Basegame Knockout League
« on: April 21, 2020, 08:26:10 AM »
2020 Basegame Knockout League

After the almost finished Basegame League. There is a new concept in the race for an amazing league. Thanks to Halfling for proposing it: The Knockout League. Please read further and understand the concept before joining :)

Maybe, when this will be a thing that will work out great. There could be a serie of knockout leagues.

How does this league work?

As in the title this will be a knockout league. The players that win will survive and go on to the next round. Until there is one player left. He will win the league.

How do we play each other?

Matches will be played online using the latest version of JCloisterZone (currently 4.4.2)  or could be played on BGA (BoardGameArena, as some members here play there to and are premium). Both use the old version of Carcassonne and that means there is no abbot in play.

Please ensure you have downloaded this and can run it on your chosen device well in advance of the start of the competition. Technical advice, general guidance and practice opponents can all be found on the Forum or Carcassonne Central Slack channel (see link at the bottom of this post). Or by posting here of course, but it's recommended and helpful to be available on Slack if possible.

How are games / matches arranged?

As this is a knockout league, no one would play against everyone. So that means, this will be a very short league compared to the ones before.

Code: [Select]
For example p1 and p2 play a match, p3 and p4 play a match. p1 wins and p4 wins, they continue in the knockout league and will be matched against each other.

For matching the players I am going to draw straws (with names). There is not a start player specified, as there is only one match between two players. So the game start will be at random.

May it be that in an odd change there will be a draw, there should be a rematch between the two players. In this case the player that was second in the first game, is now required to start! (note, this is not possible on BGA. Thus you could try to start the game multiple times again in there or play it through JCZ). Please post both games in this case!

Posting Scores

It has become a Carcassonne Central tradition that the victorious player will usually post screenshots of the final scores and end-game landscape back to the forums, along with a short writeup of the game(s). However, it doesn't really matter who posts what as long as the final scores breakdown from the game is posted. So please ensure that either you or your opponent will take responsibility for this once your match has been completed.

Anything else?

- JCloisterZone (external link): Downloading this is a good place to start if you haven't already downloaded it.

- JCloisterZone FAQ: Carcassonne Central hosts the official JCloisterZone FAQ, a guide for people taking part in CarcC tournaments. If you have any questions or difficulties related to starting an internet-based game through JCloisterZone you might find the answer here.

- Slack: "Boardgaming chat/ banter/ tomfoolery/ nonsense with intelligent, fun people" might sound like the sort of thing you'd have to call a premium-rate phone number for. But not anymore! Slack is a great way of connecting with others, and is very handy for chatting in person rather than via emails/ private message to arrange mutually convenient times to play matches.

- The Unwritten Rules: This is recommended reading for anyone taking part in any of CarcC's online tournaments. Most of it boils down to courtesy and common sense, but it's written down because sometimes common sense isn't as common as we'd like it to be...

General / The Falcon expansion
« on: March 03, 2020, 06:42:05 AM »
Someone asked me about how the tiles were and more, so here a what more in depth review of my experience with the printed version of the Falcon expansion for The Castle from Print and Play Games. This was a community asked assignment for a small group, I don't know if they still make it on order or have some left over. Nor do I want to advertise for Print and Play Games. Just my experience with this assignment and how it has been made. Also the vector files would probably be not 100% correct, but I wasn't involved in the making of those or the contact to create them.

Have fun with my little story to read and more important how it looks. :)

PnP files are available for free: https://www.knizia.de/more/

The review

TLDR; A bunch of people wanted to have the falcon expansion printed by a company, because they couldn't do it themself and arranged it :)

So it all started on BGG(BoardGameGeek) here https://boardgamegeek.com/thread/2328952/producing-copy-vector-files-needed as someone tried to find vector files for the falcon expansion to let it print by a company. So later on they found someone who did it for them and arranged a print by a company to order for a small amount of I think it was 30 euro's with shipping in the USA. So I jumped in with some others from here to.

To say before my criticism. They did a way better job then I would have done it.

So little then a week ago I received the tiles and gates in a small padded envelope.

In the envelope I found all the components and tiles.

The tiles are a bit thinner then normal Carcassonne tiles and that is maybe not for everyone a good thing.  :o as we all know by heart how a normal Carc tile feels like. Also on BGG Gillum described all in full details https://boardgamegeek.com/thread/2375543/production-print-and-play-games-photos. To see it for yourself.

I think they could have printed the tiles different, but they look good for me. Maybe I will try those sleevy things on these. As they are not as robust as Carc tiles feel. Also on the backside of the tiles is a pressed square, where the press pressed on to the tile to compress the tiles. This square is really notable and can be seen by any trained eye. [see next picture]

Then the gates. The gates look good on first side when I saw the back. Till I turned them and saw that they were cut on the other side. Leaving a non smooth side. As those will always be pointed to our beloved eyes, they will always be in the spotlight. [see next picture]

The gates fit good enough and I'm happy they fit :)

After all I wouldn't say they did a good job, but I'm happy with it. After all I can play with the Falcon Expansion and have fun instead of trying to cut it myself. I thank Print and Play Games that they were able to create it for us and the good customer service. They were fast with mailing and pricing for shipping.

Other Games / Cartagena. Pirates on the move
« on: November 15, 2018, 03:00:47 PM »

Cartagena is a city in the south-eastern part of Spain. Specific it's a major naval city and was one of the most defensive ports of the western Mediterranean.
Cartagena is since the 16th century the most important naval seaport and main militairy haven of Spain, the home to a large naval shipyard.

But some of you pirates know this city, not as a great navel port. But as the doom for pirates, where they are getting locked up in a cell where is no way out. Far away from their comrades, their good shipmates. Far away from their well earned treasures, their gold. Now they only have a chain around there ankles. Sometimes they get some bread, if they are lucky. But normaly it's only salt water.

Now one of their comrades had found a tunnel, perhaps it is a way out? With the six of them they enter the tunnel. Walking and walking till they find another pirate that was enprisoned. An enemy of ours, we need to fight a way through the tunnel. And now it began a race to all of them, to find the exit. One of them reached the end and found an old boat there. Their way out, their way to freedom. If they only could fit with all of them in the boat, they could be free together. My five other MATES, they need to get into to boat to! Hurry mans, come'on MATES he yelled. We need to go, the others are coming!!! We need to be free!

And so the 6 deadly pirates escaped, wanted by the Spanish crown. Free, to pirate again. To sail the seas, to plunder the good men.

Cartagena is a game where teams of 6 pirates are fighting each other to beat them to reach the boat at the end of the tunnel. In the tunnel there are a lot of obstacles. Those obstacles can form problems in your journey to lead them, as you are laying cards down to move your pirates. On those cards there are all different pictures; dagger, key, hat, skull, pistol and rum. When you want to move your pirate into the front you only need to play one of those cards and he moves to the next free spot of that symbol, no symbol free anymore. You enter the boat instead. Well you also need some cards back, so to get cards you can do a step backwards. If there was standing one other pirate, you get one card. If there were standing two pirates, you get two cards. If there are standing three pirates, you skip them and go to the next one.

I like Cartagena about the fun that you don't know which action your oponent is going to do. Specially if you are with five players and everyone is using different tactics to get to the front. It goes quit quick then, although it is not really a game that you have in your own hand. It really depends on what the other users are doing. I, personaly think that that part of the game is the most interesting thing I like about this game. The fun you have when you discover that they messed up your tactic and you have to do something else now.

This game is a very light and simple game, easy to teach, fun to play and has a big replayabity. The last is because the tunnel exist out of 7 small tunnels that can be placed on different ways. So that you can have everytime a different map. Also if you want more tactic in your game, it is possible to play with an open variant. With this variant it is posible to see which cards you will get, when you are doing a step back. One problem, your oponents will know which card you took.

I would rate it a good party game for in between after. It's fast not to short. It's 30 min around. And there are two variants, one with a closed card pile and one with 12 cards laying open. So there is also a tactic play in this game.

General / Big Box 2017 missing meeples
« on: May 06, 2018, 06:01:57 AM »
Hi all,

I just got a look into the new Big Box and got a good deal for it.
But when I came home and was counting all I started to find something weird.

I found out that I had 6 colors of meeples (pink one instead of the grey one..)
and for all of those is that new abbot figure there,
but there were only 7 normal small meeples in there.

Do they count the abbot as one of your 8 meeples?

The Marketplace / WTS - WoF
« on: January 30, 2018, 09:01:07 AM »
I have a spare copy of the WoF Dutch version. I want to clear some space and someone else can have fun with this one to ^-^.

You can find the pictures here in higher resolution.

This is the Dutch version punched. But maybe played once(can't remember, it can be I haven't played... :-[). As I have another version laying over by my girlfriend ;).
  • There are little wear on the corners of the backside.
  • The tiles look like they are just punched :)
I'm not to make a fortune and want to give anyone a chance to take it. So anyone who wants it can send me an secret offer before Saturday 10 Februari.
Starting form 15,00 euro's. You can bid in whole euro's and cents. Like: 17,85 :D.

I don't know shipping to all countries. But I can ship with UPS: store to store. It's basic 3,95 euro's + fuel costs. Only bad thing is you have to take a walk to the closest UPS take off point >:D
Otherwise ask me and I will look it up for you ;)

To pay I have paypal and my knowledge of it is growing, if you have an European Bank you can pay with IBAN.

If there are any questions or some wants more pictures tell me ;)
