Your Ideal Game (200 - 220 tiles)
« on: May 23, 2016, 05:10:33 AM »
If you were planning a game of Carcassonne for 3 or 4 experienced players but were required to stick to a specific number of tiles (200 - 220 in this case), which expansions would you include and why?

200 - 220 is larger than I'm used to but it makes sense in my head that the first 5 big expansions would be included. This brings the total to 174 already. I'd also include Mage & Witch, The Fliers and The Goldmines from the 2012 minis which is another 24 tiles (198 in total).

My final additions would be Besiegers and King & Robber Baron for an additional 11 tiles. We'd play with the house-rule that the owner of the King or Robber Baron tile gets 1 point for each road or city that is completed while they're the King or Robber Baron rather than counting everything up at the end though...

And each player would have a phantom, 3 bridges and 3 castle pieces too. That would be my ideal "large" game. I'm keen to hear what configurations other people would go with...

I have never attempted a game that large, but I'd have to go with:
Base game 71
Inns and Cathedrals 18
Traders and Builders 24
Princess and Dragon 30
Abbey and Mayor 12
Sheep and Hills 18
Gq11 Mini expansion 10
That gives me 183 tiles.

I guess I could go with the gold mines and maybe 2 copies of Mage & Witch.  Maybe ferries and one of the rivers instead.

Wheel of Fortune 72
Inns & Cathedrals 18
Traders & Builders 24
Abbey & Mayor 12
Sheep & Hills 18
Ferries 8
Flying Machines 8
Gold Mines 8
Festival 10
GQ Expansion 10
Labyrinths  2
Russian Promo 2
Corn Circles II 6

Lots of road opportunities, it's not all about the cities!  The Wheel makes the fifth expansion allowing a few more of the smaller expansions.  The Hills will hide a few tiles that means tile counting isn't possible, or at least as easy.  The Festival, Corn Circles and Plague tile on the Wheel allow trapped meeples to be reclaimed.  I have left out the 2 'nasty' expansions as I want to be still talking to my opponents at the end of the 2 - 3 hours!
