Can we consider this Monthly Tournament an official competition? I mean I could calculate Elo ratings for this after the current league.

Definitely not; my Elo is in free-fall as it is even without these results being taken into consideration! :-[

Seriously though, I don't see why they shouldn't be. Might it even be possible to have them added mid-competition so that the order of the games can be preserved? I'll leave it up to you in any case. :(y)

Thanks very much for organising.  It was a hard to keep concentrating for 3 games in a row but a thrill to win.  The games were all really hard.  Thanks so much for organising Dan - you are a star.  Looking forward to the next Tournament In A Day (TIAD?).

PS: What is "Elo"?

It's basically a ranking/ rating system. If you win a game your score/ ranking/ rating goes up. If you lose a game, it goes down. The exact amount of points by which it increases or decreases depends on your opponent's rating. So, if you win against someone with a much higher rating than you, your rating increases (and their rating decreases) by much more than if you won against someone who was rated just a few points ahead of you, or even behind you.

Hi everyone. :)

I know that August is a difficult month what with everyone being in their garden or having summer holidays, but since the “Tournament in a Day” for July went so well I wanted to try and arrange one for August too.

My vision is that this would be a repeat of July’s competition in that it would be base game only. Expansions could certainly be considered but it’s important to ensure that the tournament doesn’t finish too late for those who are an hour or two ahead of most of the rest of us. Even something simple like Inns & Cathedrals could add half an hour per game which delays the finish by an hour and a half in a 3-round competition. Mini expansions are something else that could be considered to add interest, but for now I’d prefer to keep it simple... C:-)

I’m going to assume a limit of 8 people, but if we have sufficient people on standby (substitutes) we could extend it to 16 and make it 4 rounds to victory. 8)

So, without further ado, the date I have in mind is... 14th August. Who’s in?

Same here. For now it looks like I am in. Please allow me to withdraw later or to be considered as a substitute.
Sorry I need to withdraw for the sake of lab work. :'(
