How are we getting on scheduling the 4 player games?

I've been thinking and I think it might be better to 1 have round of 1v1 with all 8 of you playing each other.  There's an incentive for the currently lower ranked players to get a magic victory (everyone loves an underdog).  There's not much incentive for the 5-8th players at the moment to play 2 more rounds.  Perhaps then players can be ranked before the final?

I dont get it. You mean seven 1v1-games for everyone now? Wouldnt it take way too long? Hmm. I really would like to play a 4-player, but if most of the other participants are not responding, it is difficult to schedule.

Exactly! It may be easier to schedule 7 games with 1 other person than 1game with 4 people!

A couple of observations:

1.  I joined the tournament as a novice, my aim being to improve my play. After being thumped in the opening game, I think I am gradually improving but am still very much a learner. Whether or not the tournament is played to a conclusion does not bother me, so I'd be perfectly happy for the top four to slug it out amongst themselves. But if the other participants would prefer to conclude the tournament properly, I will be perfectly happy to oblige.

2.  One of the things that sometimes puts me off a little are certain expansions. This is obviously wholly a personal view, but aspects of Carcassonne that particularly appeal to me are the aesthetics and what I might call the plausible realism of the game. Expansions such as the princess and dragon, the tower and the German monasteries (why on earth would land in straight orthogonal lines be of any relevance in the real world?) just detract from my enjoyment of the game. Like most players however, I think the first two expansions (amongst others) do improve the game.

Please can you contact your fellow players in each of your groups to determine an appropriate time to play a 4-player game.  If it is not feasible, I think it will be best to continue the competition with smaller games.

As for expansions: Carcassonne has seen a great number of expansions which alter the core game play quite significantly to add a strategic perspective missing from the game.  Towers and Dragons must be managed, so do Cathedrals and Builders.

I am pretty free all this weekend….. well, busy but working at home.  So, if my group is available, I am too.

Skane… are you still free on Sunday?

Clownfeet, Adrornalin,  are you guys available to play this weekend?

Thought it might be; thanks for trying everyone.  But If player's can't get a date organized soon , I think we'll have to roll back to 1v1s for this round.

Okay, 1v1  :red-meeple: :black1-meeple:

Perhaps it works out that every player plays against an opponent he never played before in the tournament?!

Let's do what I suggested as a backup:

Rounds 3 will be:
1v1  - 1 group with all 8 players in the group.

Ranking will be made from Group Points allocated over all 3 rounds.

Expansions:

Base Game, Traders & Builders, Princess & Dragon & The Fliers.

Please organize your games!

8-player group means 28 games in total, right? I guess that will take another 4 months, like since the start of the tournament ;D

But nevertheless I'm ready and still available any time, please send me a PM with your preferred time, dear opponent 8)
