scoretack conundrum
« on: January 31, 2020, 09:25:42 AM »
Some scoretack thoughts ...

I like the regular (C2) scoretack (50 points). It's fine. It works well up to 149 points - first 49 standing up, up to 99 lying down and then breakdancing headspin to 149 ...

I'm pretty new (C2 base + I&C + T&B + Watchtowers) and am still thinking about the game at least as much as playing it ...

I think I'm looking for the 'ultimate solution' to scoretracking and I'm not quite sure what that is yet.

I liked the idea of the I&C score tiles, but now I actually have them, they seem a bit 'clunky' and if they are handed out to players it means the scoring isn't all in one place ... Plus of course, there are only six (I now have 8 meeple sets, but more for colour choice than because I'm genuinely considering playing with that many people) but I'm guessing that the more players there are the less need there is to record scores over 149 anyway ...

My 'ultimate solution' ? I'm not sure. I find myself thinking it'd be nice to be able to get small wooden cubes (in colours which exactly match my meeples) and adding one of those to the 'zero' on the scoretack for each circuit ... Does such a thing exist?

Pencil and paper and apps are too fussy. I'd like something aesthetically pleasing and elegant. Something that looks like it might have been in the original box ...

What should I do? What do you do?

Hi cicerunner!

I have seen different option and the last I tried was this: Meeple Flags. Everyone in the room loved it  ;D

http://www.carcassonnecentral.com/community/index.php?topic=4209.0

Besides this commercial option you can see in the forum other options:
* Extensions to the scoreboard that keep track of points above 50.
* Meeple Cubes a box to keep you meeples with each side showing a points tile with multiples of 50
* Using dice to count 50 point laps
* 3-digit counters to keep score up to 999
* pieces of wood under your scoring meeple with differemt 50x values

I'm on the move but of you are interested I can search the topics for you.

Cheers!

Some interesting stuff there Meepledrone ...

* Meeple Flags
I've come across these somewhere before. They feel somehow quite "C1ish".

* Extensions to the scoreboard that keep track of points above 50.
That sounds interesting. I'd be interested in a link.

* Meeple Cubes a box to keep your meeples with each side showing a points tile with multiples of 50
Again, I'd be interested to see more.

* Using dice to count 50 point laps
I hadn't thought of using regular dice, but of course that works. Even before I posted I was looking at dice suppliers ... Coloured dice customised to have "50, 100, 150" etc on the faces would be nice.

* 3-digit counters to keep score up to 999
Yeah, I found a link elsewhere in the forum. Personally? Yuck!!

* pieces of wood under your scoring meeple with differemt 50x values
I've seen these too I think. I think http://www.basicallywooden.co.uk have some. (Though I can't find them right now!)

I'm on the move but of you are interested I can search the topics for you.
Cheers, links to the scoreboard extensions and meeple boxes would be helpful.

What do you about this board.
It could be base for your C2 version.
The way you place your Meeple you can count 600 points.

Hi again, cicerunner!

I'm afraid much stuff you'll find in the forum will be C1-ish.

I replied to Ramachandra two weeks ago or so giving some hints about options for keeping scoring beyond 50 points available on the forum. Don't know if you came across this post:

http://www.carcassonnecentral.com/community/index.php?topic=4462.msg65788#msg65788

Other (C1) stuff not mentioned in the previous post:

* Score Meeple Boxes: C1 cubes showing 50-300 points tiles on its faces.

http://www.carcassonnecentral.com/community/index.php?action=downloads;sa=view;down=246

* 500-point Scoring Track Extension: C1 strip with 100 points spaces

http://www.carcassonnecentral.com/community/index.php?action=downloads;sa=view;down=6

Regarding using dice, I also got some regular d6 dice in players' colours to place them on top of 100 tiles as a multiplier. Also I thought of using them as markers on the scoreboard instead of a scoring meeple as a 50-point multiplier or as a 100-multiplier if combined with a scoring meeple. Here is an example :

* 0 - 49 points: scoring meeple standing
* 50 - 99 points: scoring meeple lying down
* 100 - 149: die showing value 1 on top + scoring meeple standing
* 150 - 199: die showing value 1 on top + scoring meeple laying down
* 200 - 249: die showing value 2 on top + scoring meeple standing
* 250 - 299: die showing value 2 on top + scoring meeple laying down
* ...

Cheers!

So, after some deliberation, I've reached a conclusion on how to track scoring to my satisfaction. Not surprisingly perhaps, it's the most obvious and simple of solutions. Just one that didn't I dawn on me until I saw an image on this site of someone actually using it.

I've ordered extra score tiles and an extra 'second scoring' meeple in each colour. The 'second scoring' meeple will be placed on a tessellated group of score tiles to indicate which player they belong to and this will be adjacent to the main score track.

Everything in one place. Easy to read. Simple! <eye rolling emoji>

Obviously a mock up, no real game in progress.
Although of course, I am black.

We just use the mayor meeple from the Abbey & Mayor expansion as our counter of loops around the track.  So if the Mayor is on 3 and the regular meeple is on 24, the score is 3x50 + 24 = 174.

We never actually play with the mayor, so it works out well.   You could instead use the robber, messenger, ringmaster, etc.

I set up my laptop next to the table with a spreadsheet open. Each row is a separate colour and scores are input as claimed. We thus get the option of using the extra meeple with Markets of Leipzig or mega games.
The Geek shall inherit the earth if we get a good die role

These options look good too.

I like the additional figure option to keep track of each player's number of laps... A variant could be also using some dice in each player's color by the scoreboard. I got some but haven't tried this option yet since my fellow players liked the Meeple Flags option so I kept using them.

The spreadsheet can be clearer to keep the score in large games too. The extra meeple can be handy as Halfling says.

That's an elegant solution - mnimal clutter and easy to read the score. I've been thinking about getting the 10 different coloured meeples* so I can try out The Phantom mini expansion gameplay. They would be quite aesthetic as 'lap counter' meeples I think.

* As ever I struggle with the colours. Can anyone identify the 10 colours there for me? (In particular I'm interested in the 6 standard C2 colours plus orange and white as those are the meeple sets I have.)

Hi cicerunner!

Your wish is my command. I'm using the set of 10 meeples in transparent colors as phantoms too for their wide range of colours although I got the original phantoms too.

Here is the subset of color combinations you were asking (C2 colours + orange and white):

If you want to check all the 10 colours, just let me know.

Cheers!

Meepledrone, you're very kind. I really appreciate it!  :yellow-meeple:
Plus, you take a mean meeplegraph! :)
