Official Rules / Re: 21st century CAR
« on: October 26, 2018, 02:53:48 AM »
I've always enjoyed the CAR in PDF form as it made for easy consumption right from my iPad. Recently though its age has been showing since there's been a distinct lack of rules for German Castles and the Halflings within. I do feel that a wiki is a good way to go but I've often had a slightly different idea.

I often thought it would be amazing to have a mobile/web app optimized for phones and tablets where it could not only show you all the rules for any edition of the game but more so you could somehow select just the expansions you are using in your current particular game of Carcassonne and then it would only show you the rules and interactions for those expansions saving you from having to wade through all the rest. Given the current state of this wiki I do not know if this idea is a natural step in its evolution or if it is even possible but I'm excited at the idea of having something that is up to date and complete.

Ok, so after reading the English rules that Decar posted I had to do a double take. Those English rules said it is possible to have a negative score but my understanding was that per ZMG's translation that wasn't possible. So I looked up the English rules for the Tower (in the new art style) and sure enough it says you can't have a negative score. However, I then decided to look up the rules for the Bazaars and sure enough those rules say you CAN have a negative score.

I can accept a publisher getting a translation wrong but it doesn't help when they're not consistent at the same time. :)

Also I wouldn't mind getting my hands on one of those tiles but if I purchase the two new mini-expansions when they become available Tuesday what then will there be that I could purchase in December to nab this promo as a gift?  ???

US player here. I've walked into Barnes & Noble, Target, and the former Toys'R'Us and here is something I've noticed. They all carried the base game (in the new art, obviously) but none of them carried ANY of the expansions. I know this point brings about a double-edged sword. The people buying Carcassonne at one of these major stores won't likely know about the expansions nor of any events happening around them. At the same time those likely to know about any would be events are likely to be those who know about the expansions. With that in mind though here are some of my recommendations:

Maybe try working with major retailers to try to get them to carry some of the popular expansions.
Work with FLGSs to have learn/play events where a chosen (either by FLGS or the publisher) expansion that customers can learn to play and even purchase.
Work with FLGSs to have organized play events (think local tournaments), something Asmodee is known for. During these events offer a mini-expansion or similar as a prize to the winner(s).
Cundco currently does offer a lot of mini-expansions not available anywhere else for purchase. Not a lot of people outside of this forum know about Cundco. Even those that do know about it though may at times find it cost prohibitive especially when the shipping can add up. So I might suggest (at least in the states anyway) working with a local publisher (like Asmodee / Z-Man Games) to offer more of these mini-expansions and other bits locally. Also having a website that is by default in the customers native language (in the case of the US, this would be English). Yes Cundco does have an English language option but it's not 100%. Sure the parts that matter are in English but still it'd be preferred to have everything in English.
I know that HiG has a big presence at Spiel every year and for the last few years they offered a convention exclusive promo tile. Perhaps they'd consider working with Asmodee in America to do similar things here, either at Gen Con or similar.

That's all that I can think of for now. If I had to narrow that list down to one thing (especially something relevant to the original topic) I'd say that I'd love to see events offer something I can't get anywhere at the same time.

If you look at the product images on the product page itself you see there is a slot for all the tiles, a bigger slot for all the meeples but then there are two smaller slots left over but for what?  :o ???

Decar, I'm quite jealous of the fact you got the Time Traveler promo card for Unfair. Unfair is one of my favorite new games, so much so that I've been playtesting the upcoming expansion. I know there are ways for me to still get that promo I just haven't done so yet.  :)

Got an email with a voucher code to use on a future purchase. No Ringmasters in the new colours yet and no Abbot in gray. Lame.

No Abbot in gray? Did they run out because last year I was able to get an Abbot in gray.

Been waiting a while for this gem to show up and finally it arrived today! Got a chance a to try a round of the solo mode this evening and so far I am loving this game. Can't wait to hopefully bring it to the table more this weekend! I backed for the deluxe edition with all available add-ons/expansions and stretch goals.

Hi Sewdonimus,

If you look on this page: https://itunes.apple.com/nl/app/carcassonne/id375295479?mt=8.
You can see somewhere on the left bar that it's only compatible with iPhone, iPad en iPod touch. So if you want to play Carcassonne on your laptop I would recommend to try out JCloisterZone. http://jcloisterzone.com/en/.

I believe Sewdonimus is actually referring to this, https://itunes.apple.com/nl/app/carcassonne/id901869346?mt=12

As for your issue, Sewdonimus I'd suggest tweeting the developer on their Twitter account, https://twitter.com/carcassonneapp

I don't have the expansions listed today (The Labyrinth, Markets at Leipzig, The Festival (15th Anniversary)) but I also don't have the Windroses I. Hopefully they don't run out of the Windroses I before they put the new items on sale. That way I can get everything in one order.  :)

Official Rules / Re: The Ferries and the School interaction questions
« on: October 01, 2017, 12:06:13 PM »
Thanks for the replies. I asked these questions because they actually came up in a game I played with a friend on Friday. The way we handled it at the time was that if a road was re-opened and then closed again that we could again claim the teacher.

Official Rules / The Ferries and the School interaction questions
« on: September 30, 2017, 08:48:12 PM »
I have a couple questions about the Ferries and the School and how the interact.

If one of the roads leading out from the School has a Ferries tile attached to it and in doing so a ferry is placed so that the road continues. I assume if on a subsequent turn if the ferry is moved so that the road leading out of the School is now closed / completed that it, possibly, scores and then the person who completed it gets the School teacher?

What happens if this closed road is later re-opened? Could it be closed again and the teacher be taken by whomever closed it?

What has me curious is that the rules DO say that once all 6 roads are closed the teacher will no longer go to any of the players.

So what happens if after all 6 roads are completed / closed one of them is re-opened due to a shift in ferry placement? If that re-opened road is again closed could the teacher then be claimed?

Heard good things. Let us know your thoughts!

So I got to play this twice today at 2 players. Was definitely a lot of fun. I enjoy some of the newer pure strategy games and this is no exception. The component quality is great and the theme is top notch. In fact the theme plays so well into the game. It is great. Playing the game with 2 players was interesting though. You had a good open board with which to grow your trees and to not have to worry as much about your opponent. Then again there are turns where your opponent can just sneak up on you and suddenly half your trees are blocked and you get very little sun points. I haven't played this 3 or 4 player but I suspect at those player counts the game gets much more cutthroat having to worry about your opponents' every moves and fighting for the inner circles trying to get the most points.

This is definitely a solid game that even if you weren't the biggest fan of pure strategy games I'd check it out anyways. As is I only have one minor issue and that's with the game box itself. This is just personal preference but I wish the game box itself was a little thicker.

I don't want to say yet if this game would crack my top ten but it is definitely been solid so far and I can't wait to check it out some more!
