First, apologies if this should be in the marketplace subforum

Anyways, I discovered this evening that Meeple Source is doing a Kickstarter for their Game Upgrades. The KS includes upgrades for games like Catan, Pandemic: The Cure, Camel Up, Colt Express, Islebound, the yet to be released Charterstone and more... Of course noting the focus of this forum this KS also includes upgrades for Carcassonne. The two options include a full set of 19 Meeples (Everything Cundco offers plus the new meeple from Under the Big Top) in 10 different colors (5 of which aren't available through Cundco) and a set of replacement character meeples that include (The Dragon, Fairy, Teacher, Mage, Witch, and the Count).

This KS offers flat rate shipping regardless of how many different game upgrades/meeple sets you get.

I point this out not because the overall price may be cheaper than Cundco but because they do offer 5 colors that Cundco does not.

You can check out the KS here, https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/meeplesource/game-upgrades-30-by-meeple-source/description

Bloody hell. Kickstarter is the worst thing to ever happen to my pocketbook. After whoever mentioned the Brass Kickstarter, I began following it and...pledged for the 132 CAD version before the timer ran out! WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME?! I literally am facing more student debt by the end of the year, my bank account is near dry, and I have fought off backing Kickstarter games for the past two years. But Brass just looks so beautiful...

Gah. I can't visit this thread anymore. It may be dangerous to my livelihood.

At least it looks like you're going to get two great games out of it. At one point I decided to back it too but then calmer heads prevailed and I opted out (as I also did with Hannibal). I'm not sure where this new-found restraint is coming from, but maybe it'll rub off :)

Anyone looking at Ur?

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/2004536140/the-royal-game-of-ur

From the Kickstarter front page. "The Royal Game Of Ur - Arguably the first ever boardgame the Royal Game Of Ur, dating back to 2600BC.

I caught wind of this from a Geek and Sundry video interview with an entertaining fellow from the British museum. I had not heard of this previously but was intrigued enough to look at the BGG lisitng:

https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/1602/royal-game-ur

I just tried a PnP version this morning and it plays like a simplified Backgammon. Its a simplistic roll and move while you try to get through enemy lines. The centre row of the board is shared and if you land on top of an opponents pip, you knock him back to start. Very basic indeed but we enjoyed our play - in a family-standard-game kind of way, (think Ludo).

I used a PnP sheet from BGG and Risk Cavalry pieces for the pips. I didn't have enough appropriate D4 (Tetrahedral), so I just used a Dice app, using the 1's and 3's to signified the die pips you see in the game play video

I'm not interested in backing the project though I can see the allure. I'll stick to my PnP and maybe try to improve on my little improv set. Again it seems to have the same luck/skill of Backgammon. I used the rules as described in the video, I understand there is a more complex game but don't know what thats about.

Anyone previously familiar with this?
Franks

Wanna play Carc? Can we add just one more expansion?

I missed that post!
Yeah, the quality of what you can see in the KS looks good but there aren't enough details on the differences of the pledge levels. In the end, quality or not, its a bit much for a roll and move family game!

Im not sure I'd want a replica of an old tatty box anyway. If you're going to make it...make it the best it can be.  Considering the price compared to santorini....it's a no go for me.  Looks like a nice print and play game for my box though!

So they're essentially admitting their games are over-priced... they suck at marketing.

They should be saying:  Back a Roxley Game and keep both  :(y) :(y)

At ~CAD$700,000 pledged for Santorini and ~CAD$1,700,000 for Brass, I'm not sure the price of their games is hurting them.

But that was before their latest marketing campaign.

From Roxley Games (Santorini, Brass) on FB.

Kickstarter wins by knock out blow! It is amazing what Crowd funding in general has done to raise cash and projects.
