My wife and I are discussing acquiring this table as a joint Xmas gift.  We have 10 days to decide and the table won't be shipped until February.  I just wish I could see one in the flesh before purchasing.

Go for it! Too bad my wife would not sign off on it, and she is the main breadwinner in our family.

If any UK or European residents were thinking about the Duchess board game table but baulked at the shipping price and tax from the States, the Taylah is a UK-made table on Kickstarter right now.

That comes as an extra stretch goal for those who pledge an extra £20k or so.

I'd be happy with a bottle opener... ;)

Lol isn't that a big rip-off?
I mean, that idea..

They were showing it off at Essen last year, so they didn't just come up with the product now as a response to the huge success of the Duchess.

So the Duchess is finishing in 18 hours, with $2.25 million (!!!) pledged so far.

The Taylah has only been going for a few days and is still well short of the target. In the comments section, a lot of people are saying that the armrest part of the Taylah is too thin, which certainly seems true.

I'd be delighted with either of them but it wouldn't be a 'wise' purchase and I can't really afford it at the moment.

Both tables are out of my pocket but even if... trying to convince my wife on either one would most certainly backfire, at the very least the reply would be something like "You want a new table, I want a new house"  ;D ;D

On the game side I'm currently looking into:
Martians: A Story of Civilization and CRISIS - dieselpunk & worker placement for serious gamers
They do look similar differing greatly on the theme, being Portuguese CRISIS theme ring a bell >:( :'( ??? although I'm not that much into the dieselpunk art.
In the end I'm utterly inexperienced on this type of worker placement more heavy games and don't have any on my collection so I might go for one of them maybe both  ;D ;D

If I buy enough games, I'll have enough game boxes to make a sturdy table  :(y) :(y)  The only problem would be when you want to play a game at the bottom!

Crisis looked very good and it sounds like they may tighten the 2-player mode, rather than relying on players to snipe each other.  I can't decide if I would prefer this to Stone Age.

I just notice that Martians: A Story of Civilization will feature an solo variant and that just made the sell and I took an early bird discount ($4).

I'm still into CRISIS theme but not sure I'll back it, lets see....

This is the first time buying a piece of furniture sight unseen and knowing that it won't be delivered for 7 months.

So far I have backed 3 projects on kickstarter and have received nothing.    :-\

So on top of Near and Far which is being discussed in the  Above and Below Thread and that will probably make drop my Martians: A Story of Civilization.

I now find these sharp looking boys Tinker Bits Steampunk Meeples.

It's like I'm being bullied for lunch money daily.  ;D ;D
