Anyone else getting onto Medici?

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1986861668/medici

https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/46/medici

I've had my eye on this game for a while and the clincher was the new 2 player rules set being added by Dr. Knizia, himself.

One draw back is limited distribution, (due to licensing). Good news for those of you in the UK, they just announced friendly shipping for that destination today.

Thanks for the link, I might go for it. The design is beautiful, especially compared with the older editions. Usually I would never go for cards over tiles, but in this case the tiles were never for tile-building as such, so this isn't a problem here. Plus, the cards are beautiful as well. And many of the stretch goals have already been met. And I can pay in $AUD which is always nice. And I could have it shipped to my brother in the UK. I think I might have just convinced myself to do it!

I agree about the cards over tiles. Though, I was put off at first over the change, (I just like pulling tiles out of a bag), but in this case I think the cards will be more functional.

Thanks for mentioning the exchange rate. Our Canadian dollar is just about on par with AUD$ which was a big plus!

I pledged!

Once upon a time, I was Australian, and I still have an Australian bank account with a tiny amount of money in it that I don't 'count' as part of my savings. And the only credit card I have is linked to that account. So basically, the two kickstarter pledges I've made this week are kind of free, and even 'freer' if they're in Australian dollars.

Well, that's how I'm choosing to look at it.  :(y)

What's a fire water? ???

Usually a spirit of questionable quality - like Bell's whisky :)

Fair enough. I wondered if maybe it was some sort of Portuguese delicacy!

It's is, I'm on tapa and will explain later.

There is now a gameplay video up on the kickstarter page for Lex Arena.

I think it looks great and I'm glad I backed it. It's a dice-rolling combat game (loosely like Risk) but there are a lot more elements at play in each combat and I think it looks like a lot of fun. It's worth reiterating that the components are really beautiful. I would love to play it outside the Colosseum the next time I'm in Rome and I bet loads of people would come and watch!

Meanwhile Lex Arena has reached about 40% of its goal with 23 days to go. If you haven't checked it out yet, have a look and see what you think!

The gameplay video is a bit hard to follow but sure look to be a lot of action and fun to play. Not sure I'll wait for you to move in, I might end up backing this eitherway.   :(y) ;D

Haha, good. They need all the help they can get - it looks like it will be touch and go as to whether it gets funded or not.

Anyone interested in Dragon Keeper? I just got a notification because there's 48 hours left, and it's already funded with some cool stretch goals unlocked.

I've pretty much decided to back it, but I'll sleep on it before confirming. The next decision is whether to pay €20 extra for a sculpted metal dragon.

Oh stop it. Soon you'll make me buy the wooden sword that comes with Lex Arena for €300!

Although I was kind of wondering if the dragon could also be used for Carcassonne...

But without a sword like that, what will you wave about your head after a victory, while you run around cheering?

Dragon looks about the right sort of size, but I'm sure about the KS, will have to read a bit more about it.

This is exactly why I haven't backed it. I like the sound of the game, but I see little point backing it unless I also get the €300 sword; there's just no point playing without it. :P

Haha. The other benefit of paying for the sword is that you get two copies of the game - for me that means one pristine version for playing indoors only and one for playing outdoors in front of the Colosseum or the Roman amphitheatre of your choice.

Dragon looks about the right sort of size, but I'm sure about the KS, will have to read a bit more about it.

Things I think are cool about it:
- The box becomes the dungeon in the game, on three levels. I love this creative and 3D aspect.
- Dragons are always cool.
- I like the look of the tiles.
- The gameplay seems fun and uncomplicated.
