Top 10 Games - Poll #1

It's a sad day for modern board-gaming when poker has a real chance of winning a Top Ten Poll.  After the excellent discussion from Dirk about the Golden Age of boardgaming a few days ago, I'm now considering we are in fact in a Bubble.

I just think its just that people don't know most of the other games and they like poker so they vote for it.  At least that is what I'm guilty of.   

I think this poll contains a lot of the rarer games.  I doubt poker would defeat Isle of Skye, Ticket to Ride, etc in any other poll on this forum.

Really, the only games most people would recognize are Stratego, Poker, Spyfall, Coloretto, and 7 Wonders Duel.  The latter 2 are not as popular as their big brothers.  Thurn and Taxis is a Spiel winner, but it is too similar to Ticket to Ride which won 2 years earlier.  I applaud Decar for taking on this task, but I could have guessed there would be a few rounds of upsets.

It looks like Hopscotch, Snap and Naughts-and-Crosses are looking to take the next weeks' titles.  My recommendation is to vote for games you want to win not games that you know. Unfortunately it wasn't possible to implement an STV, but seems like that's going to happen!  It's like voting Conservative because you know who they are even though your first choice was Labour 

I've not seen many people jump to poker's defence either!

It can appear a bit dark if you consider the "Please vote..." and only have 10 options which does not coincide with your own ideas, not to mention there is no "None of the above" option.

But I do understand it's all fun and games. And just to ease you guys, I did not vote at all.

I hope people didn't assume I would have the ability to carefully make sure that one of their nominations was include in each vote. We received a lot and some people only nominated a few titles while others noinated many more.  I also asked to avoid duplicates.  The titles have been randomly ditributed giving everyone an opportunity to vote on a game they want.  "None Of the Above" is not a game and cannot be voted on 3 times.   Each person has 3 votes they can spend as many or as few of them as theh desire.

FX Schmid (1991) - 2-4 players - age 8+ - 30mins

The "deck" consists of 4 "suits" each of 12 tiles (numbered 1-12) depicting the skyline of New York. Each player chooses a colour - pink, yellow, blue or green. In turn, from a hand of 6 tiles, the tiles are placed in numeric order across the table, with a replacement being taken from a set of 6 replacement tiles which are face up (an alternative is to have a face-down stack as I show in the picture). Keep playing until no tiles are left in the players' hands (alternatively, when the last tile from the free stack is taken). The aim is to have your colour tile on top of each numeric stack, especially the higher values. There's also a bonus for having adjacent stacks of the same colour. Worth playing 3 or 4 rounds. Tiles are hard to shuffle. Using a standard deck of cards might be an easier option than trying to track this game down. Let me know if you'd like more detailed rules.

In the example shown, if this was the end of the game, the scoring would be :-

• PINK: 6+7+9+11=33 (+3 bonus for 6/7 adjacent)
• YELLOW: 2+8=10
• BLUE: 3+4=7 (+3 for 3/4)
• GREEN: 1+5+10+12=28 (+3 for 12/1 which are considered adjacent)
