Have any expansions been released as C1 & later as C2?
« on: August 29, 2020, 09:14:59 PM »
To repeat the Subject, have any expansions been released as C1 & later as C2? I'm trying to decide if I need to buy one of each.

Thank you,

Kirk

There are several expansions that have been converted from C1 to C2.

All the major expansions, except for the catapult.
1. Inns and Cathedrals
2. Traders and Builders
3. The Princess and the Dragon
4. The Tower
5. Abbey and the Mayor
6. Count, King and Robber
8. Bridges, Castles and Bazaars
9. Hills & Sheep

All the mini expentions, but only released in big box 6.
#1 Flier
#2 Messages
#3 The Ferries
#4 The Goldmines
#5 Mage and Witch
#6 The Robbers
#7 Crop Circles

Other minor expentions:
- Castles in Germany
- The Festival
- Halflings
- Labyrinths
- Monasteries in Germany

But there are more and more expentions in C2 that do not exist in C1:
- 10. Under the Big Top
- The Barber-surgeons
- The Fruit-Bearing Trees
- Japanese Buildings
- The Markets of Leipzig
- Spiel Promos
- Spiel Doch! Promom 02/2018
- The Tollkeepers
- The Watchtower
- PnP: The Land Surveyors
- Carcassonne Maps

C1 expentions that have not yet been converted to C2:
- 7 The Catapult (But this will most likely never happen)
- Besiegers - Cathars - siege
- Cathedrals in Germany
- Darmstadt Promo
- Games Quarterly #11
- Little Buildings
- (The Phantom)
- The Plague
- Russian Promos
- The School
- The Tunnel
- The Wind Roses
- The Wheel of Fortune

The Phantom has no tiles, only ruLes which can also be used for C2.

Yeah I can't see why you can't use Phantom for C2.
I use a variation of the rules for Star Wars Carcassonne quite well.

I play with The Phantom in C2 without any issues.  ;D

I love it... Indispensable for quick points with German castles I daresay.  ;)

We play all expansions C1 and C2 together. Just we say on beginning which rules are apply, for example wagon C1 or C2, Inn tile on T junction C1 or C2, small cities 2 or 4 points.
Check JCloisterZone Add-ons with fan expansions and also some Slovak sci/fi projects in English https://www.scifi.sk/en/

I know, this is old topic, but google or search on site can show this topic.
For difference of rules between C1-C2 need to count new different clarification of rules.
1. Halflings
- C1 rules: Each triangle tile is counted as tile (for length of road etc).
- C2 rules: Each suare tile place is counted as tile, so if there is two triangles on same feature on same tile quare position, then is counted only as one tile
2. Double tiles
- C1 rules: One tile
- C2 rules: Two tiles due to two square positions, but, depends on feature and expansion.
- - Road on Market of Leipig is counted as one, event that road is over both parts of double tile.
- - Roads on German Castles can be counted as two tiles if road start at first half and end on second half of double tile. Then road segments on double tile is counted as 2 tiles. But if road is starting and ending on same part (half) of double tile, then these 2 segments are counted just as one tile.
3. Wagon moveafter score feature
- C1 rules: can move over road-city/road-road connetion to any unoccupied and uncompleted feature connected with finished feature on which wagon is placed on
- C2 rules: wagon can move to any unfinished and uncompleted feature on same tile or on any adjacent tile (aka monastery scoring tiles pattern)
4. City scoring
- C1 old rules: small cities 2 points
- C1 standard rules: small cities 4 points
- C2 rules: smal cities 4 points
5. Farm scoring:
- C1 old rules: city with most farmers are counted to points
- C1 standard rules: city is counted to any separated farms
- C2 rules: city is counted to any separated farms
6. T junction with Inn from Expansion 1: Inns & Cathedrals
- C1 rules - inb is counted only to right road (when placed in cinfuguration FRRR)
- C2 rules - inn is counted to both roads to left and to right (when placed in configuration FRRR)

Is there any significant differences between C1/C2?

A minor correction: Cathedrals in Germany, originally releases in C1 in 2016 were published in C2 art in 2020.

This reccurent topic brings back yet another frequently asked question: which of C1 elements not yet transformed into C2 (or rather C3 now?) art will eventually turn up? I remember that at some point during the speculations about how HiG would celebrate the 20th anniversary, expectations were quite high and almost taken as granted that some C2 version of Cathars/Seige/Besiegers will be a part of the anniversary products. This unfortunately did not happen. Now I am inclined to thing that HiG may actually not make any of not yet re-released items at all. But it is just my sceptic view, I will be happy to be proven wrong.
