Meepledrone is late ;)
-
Yeah, saw the announcement on Facebook.
I've had a quick read through the rules and its an interesting concept tbh
I like how they gave it a twist with the counting. Might give it a try at one point
-
Meepledrone is late ;)
Oops! I was walking my balloon dog. :o
-
The last sentence of the rules:
'Adding special meeples and tiles is also possible, however, we haven’t tried it yet, so you’d have to try that at your
own risk!'
Hahahahaha HiG you make my day! ;D
-
What did you expect?
If you combine this solo version with regular Carcassonne... the playing area may explode! ;)

Dear everyone,
HiG officially put out today rules for playing Carcassonne solo style! The rules are available in English ( https://www.hans-im-glueck.de/_Resources/Persistent/ae348d66236eced540be8ee802b1dbef51b33bb9/CarcBasis_SoloRegel_ENG_Web.pdf ) And German ( https://www.hans-im-glueck.de/_Resources/Persistent/9a093f4d9482708af85960ccfb3bef088e836067/CarcBasis_SoloRegel_DE_Web.pdf ). I haven’t personally read the rules yet as I wanted to hurry up and share them here so I can’t swear if they’re any good.
Regardless this is exciting news! I will definitely have to try these out later!
P.S. paging Meepledrone! You have new rules to pour over. ;D
EDIT - read the rules and the solo mode seems like a challenge more than anything, but a fun challenge. It also would seem that expansions could be mixed in though it will naturally fall upon us to sort out any interaction questions.

Sorry, I've been busy preparing this tiny test:

Don't worry, I read the rules of the solo variant and will start working a a WICA page accordingly. ;D

- Hey! This looks like fun, can't wait to try it!
- What is this doing in "off topic"? If I hadn't been doing some deep rummaging in the forums I would never have found it!
- Similarly it seems (slightly) odd that this was apparently only released via Facebook. Or was it announced elsewhere too? (Or put another way, I really try to avoid Facebook, but if there's a Twitter account or other social media account I should be following - please let me know!)

It seems it was announces on Facebook and Instagram:
https://www.facebook.com/Brettspiele (https://www.facebook.com/Brettspiele)
https://www.instagram.com/hig_spiele/ (https://www.instagram.com/hig_spiele/)
But the rules are available on the HiG home page:
https://www.hans-im-glueck.de/news/aussergewoehnliche-zeiten.html (https://www.hans-im-glueck.de/news/aussergewoehnliche-zeiten.html)
You can find the rules in English and German there (I include both links here again).

There are two topics discussing this announcement on the Home Page as of today: this one (with the link to the English rules) and another by DaFees here (http://www.carcassonnecentral.com/community/index.php?topic=4605.0) with the links to the English and the German rules.
You are right, the topic is misplaced. I will move this topic from "Anything Else" to "News and Events" where it belongs.
Enjoy the new solo game rules! ;D

Hi DaFees,
Thank you for sharing both links.
There was an earlier, albeit misplaced topic, that shared the English rules only here:
http://www.carcassonnecentral.com/community/index.php?topic=4604.0 (http://www.carcassonnecentral.com/community/index.php?topic=4604.0)
I just copied your links over and included a reference to this topic.
In order to keep a the discussion in one topic. I will lock this topic if you don't mind.
+1 merit from me. Thank you for sharing.
Cheers!

There are two instances where the rules say city when they should say road.

Ha ha ha! HiG will never let you down. >:D
The German rules are okay though, at least in those to spots!
I love to read the rules side by side with a glass of brandy in one hand.

Giving these a go tomorrow, hopefully. Anyone tried them yet?

I finally got around to playing late last night and found it really engaging. The co-op style of play required is very different to regular Carcassonne.
I started out scoring almost nothing, but soon got into the teens and twenties. It's a fine balancing act between keeping plenty of meeples on the tiles so that you're not forced into placing a meeple every turn and keeping enough in reserve so that when you are obliged to do so, you actually have one.
When trying to maintain this balance, monasteries and multi-feature tiles become a risk! (I think multi-feature tiles make up about 3/8ths of the base game.)
So far I've been pursuing the tactic of almost completely refusing to take zero point feature completions and holding out to score the last placed colour. (As a consequence I've got nowhere near placing all the tiles to end the game that way.) Over the evening I realised that pursuing the creation of shared features is the way to go; by default they are likely to include the last placed colour. And of course a three way share guarantees that all the colours will score.
I also started deliberately constructing holes that a monastery could be dropped into for immediate, or almost immediate, completion.
Late last night a big three way, 26 point, city came together and this helped me score around **44**, 48, 52. My best so far.
The fact that I've woken up thinking about it is a good sign!

Do we know for sure that this is a mistake? Perhaps roads are cities now, and maybe cities are roads too? Should mayors now be allowed to claim roads if they're also cities? Can someone please ask HiG for clarity over this whilst I add footnotes clarifying that roads may be treated as cities and vice versa to literally every single paragraph of the CAR document?
-
and the biggest questions of all: Are the tiles still tiles? Is one physical tile still a tile? How risky is playing Carcassonne with expansions because it sounds dangerous?
-
The new Carcassonne is coming... HiG is ready for a ‘meepleine party’!!!

Now this is confusing. The English one seems to have been taken down ... Anyone know why? Is it even intentional?

HiG removed and updated the English file to correct the errors mentioned by jungleboy. Although the file name in the same, the URL has changed.
The German file didn't change:
* English rules (updated):

* German rules (same):

I'm feeling lucky today! ;D

Hmm, OK. So now we have Solo v1 and v2 rules where cities and roads are equivalent to each other in v1 but not in v2. How will this be recognised in the wiki?
-
Well, we could keep track of all these corrections to make the reader's brains go numb! >:D
A city is a city is a road is a city is a German cathedral on a halfling is a monastery is an inn.
-
Thanks for the update MeepleDrone.
We still have a Tipp, I see.
-
Yes! It was in the original one, but I can leave with that... for time being. WICA will show "Tip" ;)
-
Hi all!
The Solo Variant rules are available at WICA here:

I love it. They've changed them again! English and German this time.

I can't believe that they change the URL as well each time they revise the document. It's even labelled 'persistent' in the file path ...
I've not actually checked what has changed. I only found out because someone pointed out the previous links were broken in a Reddit post I made.
-
oh, now i'm realy confuse..... the link is for a game other than Carcassonne :o
-
I don't know what happened but HiG published diferent rules for different variants for his games.

I just had a quick look and I could see HiG added some scoring tables and some goals to track. Did anyone have a good look to see if they changed anything in the rules?
-
No. Only they add the final part. The rest of the rules are the same.

Those two events can be mutually exclusive.

Maybe I've gone mad, but these links don't appear to be working at the moment.
1) Who knows.
2) They're not! It's almost as though HIG can't quite decide whether they want people to play with these rules or not ...
For reference the HIG page from which those links were taken - https://www.hans-im-glueck.de/news/aussergewoehnliche-zeiten.html
-
Best to take from this page:
https://www.hans-im-glueck.de/spiele/carcassonne.html
they're 404ing here too though.
-
Same URLs from different pages... :o
-
OK, I want to stress that I'm not here to have a go at HIG, but is this scenario typical? This is almost my first experience of any kind of product release having only discovered Carcassonne late last year.
It's kind of frustrating when, as a fan, I casually evangelise Carcassonne (as I have by posting these on Reddit for example), only for the links to be repeatedly broken. (And Carcassonne/HIG to be presented in an unflattering light as a result.)

Welcome to my life circa 2013 - 2018.
So that's a "yes" then? ;)
-
PS I edited my post (probably more than once) after you quoted it, but then I'm not the manufacturer of a hugely successful game with fans hanging on my every word.
-
HiG is an enigma, sometimes what they do makes sense, some times it does not.
I think this is the first time HiG have simply produced a PDF of rules, so probably dont have the experience to maintain them on their website.
The links they are using are brittle, it means that things are lost easily!
-
Well, wouldn't like to pour gasoline on the fire but HiG updated their site several times in the past and made disappear fan stuff they previously had uploaded or even published... So we can expect anything.
At least the links for the Solo Variant and the PnP Demo Spiel will be broken during the long weekend. A great opportunity for fans missed IMHO.
-
For reference the HIG page from which those links were taken - https://www.hans-im-glueck.de/news/aussergewoehnliche-zeiten.html
Re my earlier post above. The links to the solo variants contained in that page are still broken.
However ...

they're 404ing here too though.
The links contained in the page that Decar shared are now working again!
The file URLs have of course changed again!
Whether the content has changed again, I don't know. I'm close to being past caring.
-
Looked hard and found this link on another site to download solo Carcassonne rules in English; the original link on HIG site has been removed, it seems.
https://images-geeknative-com.exactdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/21192738/CarcBasis_SoloRegel_ENG_Web.pdf
Better yet, here are the rules attached.

Here are the rules in PDF. I have a post further down with the rules also attached an the link where I found them.

Have you looked on cundco.de?
-
Have you looked on cundco.de?
Interesting idea!
I thought I'd give it a try ... They have this - https://cundco.de/en/mini-expansions/carcassonne/338/carcassonne-solo-version-for-free?c=75 - which is German and English versions in a single PDF document.
(You need to click through into the 'description' of the shop item to give the download link.)
Which versions? The original ones with the roads misnamed as cities etc! (Face palm.)
