Title: Which small expansions will never see a 2.0 reprint?
Post by: flipshot on February 26, 2018, 08:42:02 AM
I think HiG said that the Catapult will never see a 2.0 version, but it seems they've been very quiet on all of the small expansions. Many it seems are limited/promotional, so I don't think they will get the 2.0 treatment. But here are my top expansions that will probably never get a re-release. Go ahead and list your favorite expansions that will forever be relegated to Carcassonne history.

1. The Cathars/Siege - Though I think these tiles have a cool mechanism and I have played them on an electronic version of Carcassonne, I think this expansion has gone the way of the dodo.   :(

2. The Tunnel, The Plague, Half & Half, and Little Buildings - These seem to have too much going on to me, but I've never played them, so maybe I'm wrong. However, I don't see them coming to 2.0, and I don't really care one way or the other.

3. The Compass Rose/Windrosen - I like playing with these tiles on the electronic version as well. Too bad they will probably never get an update.

4. Wheel of Fortune - I'm probably the saddest about this one potentially never getting a 2.0 upgrade. The wheel is awesome. Hopefully HiG will see the wisdom of re-releasing this one. I'd be all over it.

5. Castles of Germany - These double-sized tiles look really cool. Never played with these either. I hope they get re-released, but I ain't holding my breath.

I'd argue Cathars/Siege will be re-released as Besiegers in the new art, but we'll see. I also believe Wheel of Fortune will be re-released in some form. It is a larger expansion and it was very recently re-released in Big Box 5, so I see no reason to write it out now. It would be smartest to call it Expansion 7 and add Besiegers to it, actually.

Never going to be re-released:
* The Tunnel
* The Plague
* Little Buildings
* Half and Half I & II
* Corn Circles I
* River III
* Mini Expansion (GQ11)
* Windroses
* German/Dutch Monasteries
* German Castles
* German Cathedrals

Edit: Also:
* The School
* Darmstadt
* Labyrinth (Old Art)
* [The Scout for Hunters & Gatherers]

For what it's worth, they also are unlikely to ever re-release these:
* Japanese Temples
* Spiel '14-'17
* Labyrinth (New Art)
* The Watchtowers
* The Festival (New Art)

I agree with most of Whaleyland's list.   I could see them re-releasing Windroses and Halflings though.  Windroses is a rather simple expansion and isn't too difficult to include in a future full expansion.  The halflings do complicate matters, but were produced by Cundco, so the possibility is there.

They bothered to release Count, King, and Cult, and Crop Circles II in the new art so anything Cundco produced/distributed is a possibility.

My first impression was that they are going to re-release school and festival, but this just information about restocking.

CKC is a full expansion so it’s not surprising it was re-released. Corn Circles II is part of the Minis which were also re-released. Neither were Cuncdo exclusives. So far no Cundco exclusive has been re-released in the new art. (Festival released in the anniversary base game as a promotional before it came to Cundco.)

This looks like they just found a hidden stash of the School and Festival in the old art, and are deciding to clear them out. I never thought we'd see any 1.0 stuff on the new Z-Man website, but I guess I was wrong.

they're likely re-prints: The onviverse promos wouldn't have been held back given their small number, but they seem to have plenty of stock now  :(y)

Ha, I know this counts as necro posting but I found it ironic that so far a few of these "they will never be re-released" minis DID get an update. Never say never!

Halb so Wild I & II and also German Castles got the update. Looking forward to see Siege/Belagerer soon. I hope it's next.

Add Monasteries in German to the re-released expansion list.

I always secretly voted for Halflings and look what happened. ;)

I would say HiG would re-release anything C1 that had on sale until recently on Cundco and were sold out, that would be Cathedrals in Germany and Wind Roses,... Die Belagerer is a good candidate too.

This is just a hunch based on what happened to the re-released expansions recently.

Since they released both half-tile sets, including those from Spielbox, maybe next time they could release a 10-tile belagerer set, including the original 4 Cathar tiles.

Ha ha ha!

That would allow you to have almost every city under siege...  :o

I'm kind of amazed how wrong some of these predictions were.  Now that a 2.0 version of the halflings has been released, I think it's possible that any of these other things could released at some point in the future, besides the catapult, obviously.

German castles are reissued in c2... They are practically releasing everything new in terms of minis ... I don't think they will be releasing them again in C2 ... especially Darmstadt hehe

In the world of Carcassonne....anything is possible.

I'm ready to bet that the Rio Grande Games expansions (GQ#11 and CSC) will never be reprinted. All other minis have at least a chance.
