@MrNumbers: Match 111 (or 7 if read in binary) is for you and I. When are you free? Would Friday evening work for you?

Well, Khalid and I have finished our season. Time to put dubbing on the boots, take down the nets and get in training for next season.
Tonight's games resulted in that most unusual of phenomena namely, two wins for the away teams.

They were two very different games with Khalid winning the first, rather scrappy game, of blocking and farming. Farming has never really been my strongest card, and I did not fail to disappoint my fans by losing the battle once again. This did not really matter so much as 'highwayman' Khalid grabbing every road that was going begging.

Final score was TheSteveAllen  :yellow-meeple: 59 v Khalidqasrawi  :red-meeple: 88

The second game was a lot different and, although I waited for most of the latter part of the game for the remaining FFFF tile (the last one out of the bag) to be able to win the main farm, I failed to farm once again. This time, however, I managed to grab a couple of cities to make up for it.

Final score was Khalidqasrawi  :red-meeple: 105 v TheSteveAllen  :yellow-meeple: 110

I started this competition as a 'rookie', having only started playing Carcassonne on Christmas Day 2016, and I thought that I would be trounced in every game. Although I did not manage to win a single match, however, I did win a few games against some well-respected opponents, including Khalid tonight.

I would like to thank everyone in this competition for their matches against me and for treating me with a bit of understanding as the 'new boy'. I would especially like to thank my old friend Adrornalin whom I seem to play more often than most. He is always very supportive and it is largely because of his welcome to the league that I have stuck it out to the bitter end, despite having very little chance of winning the championship. Thanks Adror!!

Lastly, thanks to Danisthirty for arranging and running this great competition.  :(y)

Are we still on for this evening or have you encountered a force-majeure?

Also, any updates from anyone else?

I played my games with MrNumbers this evening:

Game 1: :blue-meeple: danisthirty 126 - 84 MrNumbers (s) :red-meeple:
Game 2: :blue-meeple: danisthirty (s) 114 - 64 MrNumbers :red-meeple:

I enjoyed a lot of good luck in the first game. MrNumbers spent the whole game without two meeples which he committed early to a developing city. He completed the city with the last tile of the game, but I had already gotten myself into a strong position by this point and unfortunately there was no way back for him.

The second game was much more exciting with a big farm battle raging for most of it. I eventually won the farm with 5 meeples against MrNumbers' 4 although if the last two tiles had been switched then MrNumbers would have tied the farm for an additional 24 points.

Many thanks for the games MrNumbers, especially since it would have been 2 hours later for you than it was for me. It felt nice for me to finish with a win as I didn't achieve very many wins in this league! :)

I will post some of my reflections on the league as a whole later, but for now I'm just pleased to report the scores and the attached screenshots.

I and Halfling have just finished our last games in the Basegame League.
Two games with lots of trappings and low scores, in the end I was able to turn both games in my favour while Halfling had no more followers in his supply.

:yellow-meeple: Halfling (starting) vs :violet-meeple: Leven 84:96

:violet-meeple: Leven (starting) vs :yellow-meeple: Halfling 69:55

Thanks to everyone who participated in this league and particularly to danisthirty as organizer of the tournament. :(y)

 :red-meeple: Rosco versus  :green-meeple: Hounk   -   112  -  94

 :green-meeple: Hounk versus  :red-meeple: Rosco    -    82  -  88

it was nice to finally win something in this tournament - it has not been a very successful one for me.

Well done Rosco! Looks like I am going to be playing in the 2nd division next year.  :-[

Congratulation to Rosco, he did really deserve the wins.

First game was predetermined by him outwinning me the huge city and being able to close it fast. I had a small chance to win the farm back, but it was a gamble hoping for the last cloister, plus he also had a well placed meeple, which might have even won him the farm. Second game seemed closer during the game, but since he managed, that I could not finish the 11 point city, chances for me were slim, too, because I did not score enough points in game.

hi there,
I never achieved a 2-0 in this league, just tonight in the last round and against Merlin formerly known as the ranking leader from the very first round I think. thanks for playing Merlin and sorry for bringing in some tension at the top. you can be still the league winner if Jere and What If tie their game and I think they will do so :)

1st game Merlin (Home) 73 vs 79 Adror
coinflip in the end with a ccrr as last tile needed on both sides

2nd game Adror (Home) 102 vs 93 Merlin
incoming tactic was to not connect my placed farmers to the main farm (occupied by Merlin very early with four meeple) and score easy points wherever possible plus not getting trapped soon (achieved with luckily perfect tiles in some situations)

(ps: the minis league game has been played before the bg league, I remember I read something recently that this is important for some calculation)

Goodness me. :o

Congratulations again Adrornalin! I want to know what you had for dinner this evening because I'm going to eat it every day for every meal from now on...

EDIT:
Just two matches left to play - and they're both big ones!

Any update guys?

Yes, WhatIf and I agreed to play tonight at 21:00... I have been waiting for 20 minutes now.

EDIT: We are playing now!

GLH510  :green-meeple: (home) vs Chooselife  :yellow-meeple:
78 : 77

Chooselife  :yellow-meeple: (home) vs GLH510  :green-meeple:
88 : 142

Two close games. In the first game, the farm decided the game. Many Meeple were blocked. In the second game Chooselife tried to block, but I got the right tile  immediately after every attempt. You can't win against chance.

Thanks for the games and thanks for the whole tournament.

Game 1
:yellow-meeple:  Jéré         82 (starting player)
:red-meeple:  What If?   78

First game was difficult. I managed to trap many of his guys but couldn't really score and totally failed to get majority in the large incomplete city... I won with the last tile.

Game 2
:black1-meeple:  What If?   77 (starting player)
:yellow-meeple:  Jéré         118

Second one was much easier. Battle for the main field was initiated very early in the game by What If but afterwards, he had his meeples busy in other features so I got it in the end without too much trouble. Also What If did all the work to build a large city which I managed to join to share 24 pts.

Well done, Jéré, congrats for your first league title. I assume by your recent results you are leading the Elo-rankings, too. :(y)

Yes indeed! Congratulations on your success Jere! :(y) A well-deserved tournament win for you at last!

It just goes to show how damaging one or two bad games can be even when you've been leading the competition pretty much from the start! (poor Merlin :()

I'll start a new thread soon with final results and stats. This will also be the place for any post-league thoughts - good, bad and ugly - and to discuss ways that the next basegame league can build upon the successes and failures of this one.

Congratulations Jere! ...and commiserations to the rest of us, especially Merlin.

Thanks Dan for organising the tournament. It was great to be part of it, even if I did end up in 15th spot!  :-[

You're welcome! Somebody had to come 15th. The fact that it was you shows that the overall standard of competition was very high! C:-)

Thanks!! I must say this was quite unexpected and a big surprise for me. At mid-tournament, my objective was the top 3 and very recently I had accepted the fact that I would finish second... I feel bad for Merlin who has been very clearly leading this league for the past 9 months or so! Many thanks to Dan for the organisation, I'm very impressed how far we managed to go considering the length of this tournament. Quite a collective achievement! Merit to all participants!

At mid-tournament, my objective was the top 3

I too was hoping for a top 3 position even after my disastrous opening match against Leven. I came close to it, and when the tiles fell in my favour against MrNumbers in round 14 I thought I had a good chance! But unfortunately glh510 had other ideas and finished ahead of me.
