Marking your meeple
« on: September 12, 2014, 02:37:09 PM »

Sometimes expansions and variants require that additional meeples be designated to a specific role in the game.  Extra meeples can be allowed to accommodate this but you might not want these extra meeples to be used in the standard  quota of followers.  If you are using standard meeples from an extra copy of the base game and want to indicate certain ones that are to be used only for a specific role then marking these meeples is helpful.

There is a current kid craft craze called Loom Bands which features hundreds of tiny rubber bands.  These bands are small enough to be looped round a standard follower over one arm, between the legs and then over the other arm.  It marks the meeple in a non permanent way and shows a quite attractive V shape front and back.  The loom bands are very cheap $2- $3 for a few hundred in assorted colours.

This is what I use:

You could easily replace these images with whatever is suited for you and print them out.
World record holder for a single game of Carcassonne using 10 007 tiles!

I really like this idea.
Already imagine my meeple cowboy with a nice belt of elastic.

Merit for you.
A knight is sworn to valour.
His heart knows only virtue.
His blade defends the helpless.
His might upholds the weak.
His word speaks only truth.
His wrath undoes the wicked.

 :white-meeple: My works.

This is a neat idea but unfortunately my house is already awash with loom bands as my wife and daughter are rather fond of them. If loom bands made it into my Carcassonne collection then I'd have nowhere to take refuge from them...

In the beginning I had a hard time seeing a difference between the big guy (the one who is worth 2 normal followers) and the normal guy, so I just painted his head white with acrylic paint.. :)

No-one liked that idea so I had to scratch away the dry paint with my fingernails...  :-\ But I thought it was great. :)

I know what you mean about it being tricky to tell the difference unless you're watching very closely. I always wondered if it was supposed to be this way or whether it's just down to trying to make the mega-meeple bigger, but not too much bigger on account of production costs. Same with the mayor to some extent.

I was using this yesterday and there are 3 different was to put he bands on,
my original over over the shoulder through the legs and over the other shoulder for a V shape,
or Quevy's suggestion to put it round the waist like a belt
or you can put it round the waist and over one shoulder like a military style Sam Browne belt – that looks kind of nice.

Perhaps you could post some pictures to demonstrate this ground-breaking new development in meeple fashion?  :)

I think it's supposed to be a sneaky meeple.. Like people are not really supposed to know if it is a big guy or a small guy.. :) Then you can be like, tadaaa!! I own the field because I have a big guy there, and opponents are like, naaaawww I thought it was a small guy!!! :)
