Hi,
Quick question...
In regards to German Castles The CarC 7.4 states...
There is no mention in the rules regarding effects of the castles on scoring of farms. Thus, it
seems that the Castles in Germany do not produce points for farms in the same way that castles from
Bridges, Castles, & Bazaars do, but this would have to be confirmed. (4/2015)
Could anyone let me know if this has been confirmed?

I would surmise that castles in Germany are in no way related to the castles from bridges castles and bazaars and are more akin to cloisters or monasteries. Therefore there would be no points for farms from castles in Germany.

That sums up my thoughts on the matter as well. I've played several games using the Castles in Germany and have never given farmers points for them.

Thanks for your opinions guys!
While I kind of agree with both of you, a small part of me is torn... Castles in Germany are in no way related to Castles from Bridges, Castles and Bazaars BUT they are called Castles, and at the end of the game Farms score points for every City and Castle they are connected to...
I'd love to know what the official ruling is on the matter.

If it is any consolation there are a few other naming inconsistencies that I've noticed that have surfaced in the past couple of years.
1. Cathedrals - German Cathedrals are still cathedrals, but they are in no way related to the ones in Inns and Cathedrals.
2. Abbots - If you place a follower on its side on a German or Dutch/Belgium Monasteries, it is an Abbot, but this Abbot is completely different from the Carc 2.0 mini-expansion, the Abbot.
So, while Castles in Germany and the castles from Bridges, Castles and Bizarres are both 'castles', their functions, utilizations, and mechanics are totally different. The castles from BCB do not even come on tiles, they are bonuses that may be added to a 4pt.mini-cities.
In my opinion, I don't see them as similar enough to warrant applying the same rules to Castles in Germany and the castles from BCB. I would not allow an Abbot on a German Monastery to be removed and scored the way an Abbot from Carc 2.0 can be removed and scored instead of placing a follower.

we have following:
"castles" - from Castles, Bridges & Bazaars
and
"Castles in Germany"
the name of the castles are different: "castles" and "castles in Germany" - two different names, two different game mechanics
the castle is an "upgrade" for a small city (two half round city sections)
The castles in Germany do not score for the farms at the game end - it is such easy.

True, true...
I will be playing it the way you've suggested, it make sense!
Now, I love Carcassonne, out of all of my games it's still my favorite so please don't think I'm bad mouthing Klaus-Jürgen Wrede or his creative team BUT I wish they wouldn't re-use vocabulary, it just seems so lazy. It's no big issue and nothing to sweat about, I understand that "Castles" from Castles, Bridges & Bazaars is different to "Castles in Germany" and so there's no real confusion in regards to rules BUT there are so many other words that could have been used. Off the top of my head I've got Stronghold, Fort, Fortification, Fortress...But I'm sure a Google search would throw up loads of possibilities...

I love these double sized tiles, I hope there are other double tile expansions soon.
