Welcome back from you trip kettlefish! That does look like a really fun event.

How did your visit with Klaus go? I hope he is doing well?
I just drew the perfect tile for my MonKnighThieFarmer!

Wow, that must be pretty demoralising to lose to someone who is playing 10 games at the same time! If someone’s going to beat me, I’d at least appreciate their undivided attention while they do it, especially in a head to head game!

Sebastian Trunz must be quite a player. Is he the previous World Champion? I’ve tried to look up the results of previous world championships but can’t seem to find anything...

Here is the link to Spielezentrum Herne:
List of Carcassonne Champion Ship

Sebastian Trunz was the world champion in 2007 and the German Champion. He was the 3rd in 2008 at the World Cup but he was again the German champion.

Thanks kettlefish, that link was just what I was after.

I was most interested in the ranking here: http://www.spielezentrum.de/Carcassonne/CC-2013Engl/E-CCWC2013-finals.html (results of last year's championship)

I didn't realise MrNumbers' arch-nemesis did so well - third place!

Funnily enough, I had a game against the man ranked 9th on the same list last Friday via JCloisterZone. He is a very strong player indeed. In the end he won by 7 points which seems close, but I was assisted by a fair amount of luck and was satisfied that a fairly narrow loss was about the best I could have hoped for. Hopefully we'll get to play again soon...

The participants who have won against Sebastian Trunz got a prize - signed game Carcassonne - Goldrush.

I think I saw a competition on Facebook to win the chance to play against him. I would have loved to have taken part but unfortunately it seems I live in the wrong country...

Later that afternoon I had my interview with Georg Wild (HiG) - clarifications of rule questions. Obervet has sent me some questions some weeks ago.

Then I talked with Klaus-Jürgen Wrede and he had much work to do with the signing of the pieces for the community.

After the day at the official fair time - a special evening event in the halls for the exhibitors and their friends:
I was together with Udo Schmitz (Carcassonne-on-Tour) and his daughter, Klaus-Jürgen Wrede, Georg Wild and Jasmin (HiG), Sebastian Trunz...

with life music (Jazz), Light show, Carrerra, dinner, something to drink...  ;D

Sounds like a fantastic time kettlefish. I second Dan's comments, I live in the wrong country! Dan, maybe we should do something about that and big up  Carcassonne in the UK?

Kettlefish, thanks for all the great info. Can't believe there was dinner and jazz with the creator of this great game!

Definitely! I've had a couple of emails with the organisers of the UK Carcassonne championship in an attempt to persuade them that a series of head-to-head games would be a more appropriate way to organise our national competition next year. I'm also emailing with Udo Schmitz (from Carcassonne-on-tour) to see if he would be interested in attending to generate some publicity around the event.

Other than this I don't really know where to start. There just isn't really the same kind of fan-base for Carcassonne in the UK as there is in many other countries, especially Germany. I'd love there to be, and would be prepared to make it happen, but I just don't know how...

He played the game with Sebastian Trunz during one of the simultaneous tournaments.

I don't know. They live not far away to each other. They will play a game like friends in their home...
