At the Carcassonne-Forum was an interesting question:
The 3 points from the Wind Rose - when does it take place during in a turn?
- draw and place a tile
- move wood
- scoring
Does the active player receive a Massage if one of his/her counting figures lands at a dark field on the scoring board - here the 3 points from the Wind Rose?
My interpretation of the rules (for what it's worth) is that the 3 points would be scored in the "Draw and Place tile" phase, since the rules state that the player "immediately" receives 3 points. [I know, there have been times that immediate hasn't really been so immediate, as in the joining of a regular farm to one with a barn, but work with me.] Based on the rules of various other symbols, where special things happen as soon as the tile is placed (volcano, flier, gold bar, mage, robber), it would make sense that the Wind Rose scoring truly happens instantly too. The rules also state that the points are independent of any other scoring, so there's no need for the 3 points to happen at the "Scoring" phase.
If the 3 points really get scored when I think they do, and because they are a separate event from completing features, the points should effectively get treated like the 1-point fairy scoring. Since the fairy scoring can trigger a Message grab by itself (S-CAR 6.3 p130, fn386), the 3-point wind rose should do the same.
