Title: Inns and Cathedrals without watermark?
Post by: Rosco on August 29, 2014, 09:10:46 AM
Hi All

I just thought i would share a small oddity.  I have a german set of Inns and Cathedrals and it has no watermark.

Has anyone seen this before?

Yes, it is the first edition from 2002.

The edition from 2007 has watermark on it.

CarcF - Wirtshäuser & Kathedralen (http://www.carcassonne-forum.de/viewtopic.php?f=36&t=5)

see there the links to the German rules 2002 and 2007

I'll tell you more: in our game shop's library we have Traders&Builders without watermark, and I personally own copy of The Princess and The Dragon without watermark (fortunately, every tile has some element that helps to identify this expansion - portal, volcano, Princess or Dragon).

HiG started with printing the watermarks on the tiles with the BigBox1 from 2006.

Which was fortunately my first Carcassonne set! I never had to deal with tiles missing watermarks. Abbey & Mayor was the first stand alone expansion with watermarks.

I also started to play Carcassonne with the BigBox1.

When I bought Carcassonne and every expansion in existence at the time, watermarks hadn't been invented yet. I still have all of the non-watermarked tiles, but they're stored in their original boxes now. I replaced them all with the watermarked versions as they became available.
