Official Rules / Re: When can I move a ferry?
« on: February 05, 2015, 07:52:46 AM »
The ferry is the wooden piece itself. Thus, movement of a ferry (wooden piece) is only allowed when a road on the new tile connects to the wooden piece. A road connected to an empty pier will not allow movement of the wooden piece. (See CAR v. 7.3, p. 148, fn 442)

The tiles themselves are referred to as "tiles with lakes" (not "ferry tiles") to try to help reduce confusion. Of course, there is still possible confusion with "tiles with inns by lakes," so nothing's perfect.

Does  :green-meeple: get the Teacher even though she was not at the school at the time the school road was completed?

Yes. The Teacher isn't claimed from the school until scoring is complete. Thus, she has a chance to return to the school after giving  :red-meeple: points so  :green-meeple: can grab her.

We played it once, and it didn't make the cut for future considerations. The expansion was obviously an attempt to make the scoring track a part of the overall playing surface, but we found that it just detracted from building the landscape (the more interesting part of the game) without adding enough in return. I don't think I've ever played a game of anything where I've said "Wow, I wish I got to interact more with the scoreboard."

Plus, from the perspective of putting together the CAR, some of the timing rules are a mess and are beyond what the base rules of Carcassonne are capable of handling. THAT'S something that C 2.0 could have improved -- timing rules that were more concrete -- but instead they simplified the rules and terminology even more, making some things more ambiguous. [/rant] [/thread derail]

Maybe one of the spinoff games is the next big thing. It seems like the Star Wars version would be pretty marketable, especially if they can release it around the time Episode VII comes out.

I've been traveling on business and just saw this thread now. Earlier today I saw and was surprised by the CC Facebook post.

I'm also a sucker and will very likely buy this. I backed Galaxy of Trian just for the space theme and for the similarity to Carc.

I do wish or hope that they would call it something else like, Cassini, even if it were the obvious Carc mechanics.

Doh, Cassini wouldn't work in the Star Wars world would it :P

I would go with "Coruscant" for the Star Wars universe name.

All fanboy-ism aside (well, mostly aside anyway), I'm interested to see what HiG has done with the mechanics for this one. Since they have little Empire and Rebels logos on some of the features, I suspect there will be bonus points (or negative) points tied into affiliations. Or at least maybe like the sheep and wolves in Ark of the Covenant for plusses and minuses.

Based on the rules and clarifications from the castles (from Bridges, Castles, & Bazaars, not the new upcoming ones) and from the Count of Carcassonne, all features are scored when they are completed, but if they are unoccupied, nobody gets the points. Thus, I would interpret the School rule to be treated the same way -- the holder of the Teacher (  :red-meeple: ) scores the points from that unoccupied road, the Teacher is returned to the school, then  :green-meeple: gets the Teacher for completing the next School road.

Actually "Monty Python and the Holy Grail" could work. With "Princess and Jabberwocky" expansion.  >:D

Yet another version I would totally buy. You people need to stop. Does it look like I'm made of money?  :)

What's next? "Carcassonne Inside Body"?  Where the fields are blood, the castles are organs, and the roads are intestines swirling left and right?   :o

I would totally buy that one, too.

Remember that the copyright for the artwork on all of the tiles still belongs to HiG. Thus, even if we make our own example pictures, ultimately the publisher has to be on board with it.

Likewise for publication of the rules. They own the copyright to the rules text, so we can't go copy-pasting any of that onto a website/wiki/blog without the okay of HiG.

Okay, I'm a little ashamed to admit that I'll totally buy this.

I don't have any insider knowledge, so the following is pure speculation:

I suspect that the new German castles will not be used to replace the old castles. For one thing, it would be weird to replace a token with a tile, and not everybody owns that expansion (unlike the replacement of cloisters with monasteries, where everyone can do that). The new castles may still act like the old ones, but I bet there will be some other little tweak to the rules, too.

Maybe a defense mechanic to combat the overpowered and widely used catapult?  ;D

Official Rules / Re: The princess, the mayor and the wagon
« on: January 23, 2015, 02:11:00 PM »
Clarification to my post above:

The newest version of the rules doesn't include specific text about removal of mayor or wagon, so I have changed that part of the CAR.

As far as the bullet points go, whaleyland is correct. The second bullet point indicates that you cannot place any figure after removing a knight; the specific list is just intended as a reminder of what sorts of things are figures. I agree that the term "follower" would have encompassed several of these, but they were probably afraid that some people wouldn't remember that the mayor and wagon are followers.

Because the most recent versions of Princess and Dragon are stand-alone expansions (i.e. not in a Big Box), and those versions do not include specific text regarding the mayor and wagon, I have changed the CAR text and tweaked the footnotes to mirror this. I have also added an additional footnote to emphasize the fact that any follower in a city is, by definition, a knight.
