Here we go!

The correct answer is.....

The rules state to put your scoring meeple on the bottom-left of the scoretrack

If you look at the rulebooks for all the Dutch C1 releases, all of the RGG C1 releases and the first edition Portuguese edition, the rules state to put your scoring meeple on the bottom left of the scoretrack!

Now why is this?

My thought is, that this has to do with the ow so famous 70point scoretrack.
The 50pnt track, is placed horizontally, reading the numbers correct. This has the 0-field at the bottom right.

However, if you look at the 70pnt track, you'll notice that the numbers are printed in a way that makes it be placed vertically, meaning the 0-field is on the bottom left if you look at the scoretrack.

When the scoretrack was changed from the 2nd edition onwards, the image was changed on the rules (in the reprinted rules that is, we've seen 2nd editions being released in a 1st edition box and 1st edition rules), but this verbiage was not changed

Even throughout the years, where RGG and 999 had initially printed the 70pnt tracks, they never changed this wording. ZMG updated it from when they started releasing Carcassonne in 2012, and 999 only updated it once they got to C2, in 2014.

In the case of Devir's first release, I have a theory.
If you look at the German 1st edition rules, it also states to place the meeple on the bottom left (which is correct with the 70pnt track). From their 2nd release, they updated the verbiage to just refer to the 0-field, rather than the location of the starting field.
The Portuguese 1st edition rules seem to be translated from the German 1st edition rules.
Perhaps the Spanish translator had German 2nd edition rules to translate from, or they paid more attention when translating.
Who knows?

Anyway; it is a fun little bit of trivia about the Carcassonne rules.

Now when speaking with Meepledrone about this one, he pointed out that several editions of the rules have incorrect tile placements regarding roads. Some roads leading into FFFF monastery tiles for example, and when looking at the Russian 1st edition rules, they also don't always know where roads go  ;)

Lots of little things like that keep our trivia nights busy!

Did you get it right?

That's an obvious fake yeah!
They are usually easily recognised by having way too saturated colours, and of course ripping off RGG's unique box art  ;D
The tiles are usually also very plastic-y and have oversaturated colours. Terrible quality

Unsurprisingly, it was sold very quickly!

They look great! I love the look of the plague tokens; they look like proper upgrades to the normal tokens!

No Cundco order here today, but i did get a parcel dropped off

For some reason i don't have many German C2 base games, actually I only had 1, which was Carc15. So when i saw this one, i went for it even though i wasn't sure if it would be a 2014 or 2019 box art.
It turned out the be the latter, but that's all good. And a few expansions because why not :D

Quizzes, Puzzles and Challenges / Carcassonne C1 Rule Trivia Time!
« on: February 25, 2022, 07:15:39 AM »
When going through some rule books today, i noticed a nice bit of trivia!

There is a mistake in the rulebooks for almost all RGG English releases and almost all 999 Dutch releases of C1. This was not updated/corrected until ZMG took over the English distribution, and for 999 it was when they released their C2 box.
To add to the fun; in all the C1 releases from Devir, which had both Spanish and Portuguese rules, the error is in the Portuguese rules, but it is corrected in the Spanish rules...

I was not aware of this, as I guess I've always overlooked it. I wondered if this was a known thing in the community..

So I would like to propose this poll. Please vote above which option you think is the error in all these rules

Now there is the honour system; no peeking!!
I'll make sure to share the right answer in 1 week time, on the 4th of March :)

Unfortunately, i'm not sure the "10 and up" age recommendation for the game is a good identifier.
The german 2nd edition also had 10 and up for example.

It is interesting to see that the EAN's for the RGG 1st and 2nd editions were used interchangeable; which doesn't surprise me, as indeed a lot of 'older' boxes would be used for the newer scoretrack.
Basically it means that for RGG boxes, it might not be possible to know exactly if it's a 1st or 2nd edition without opening the box  :o

It could indeed very well be a placeholder for a meeple with a lantern. On the box art, we see someone with a lantern, which could work with the fog...

We'll have to wait and find out :)

In terms of the C2 Catapult; it was previously confirmed here that we would not be seeing it.
I also seem to remember seeing it listed like that on their website, but not sure

I'm afraid i might not be able to answer your questions
I was pointed in the direction of Print&Play on our discord, as they had printed this PnP expansion from ages ago.
Someone on BGG got them to print many copies, which have then been sold by them on request.
Some of the updates on this can be found here

Some good comparison pictures can also be found on BGG, mainly here

When i contacted them, Print&Play still had some copies in stock, so it was very easy to get a copy.
Shipping was quite expensive, but Maiday and i ordered together, which brought those down every so slightly

Interesting!

From what i've been able to compare, the barcodes made the difference between the RGG 1st and 2nd editions. It can be that it is more a country-thing, where 1 was used in UK and 1 in US for example.
It shows that sometimes it can be tricky to find a true 1st edition, and RGG has not made it easy.
HiG and 999 have made it a bit easier, as you can tell clearer on the box if it's a 1st edition

I can't see the pictures, but this might help:

Sounds to me like it is actually a 2nd edition from Rio Grande.
On the box, it is really difficult to spot the difference with the 1st edition, as the only difference is the barcode actually.
1st edition barcode: 4001504481254
2nd edition barcode: 655132001700

other than that, the boxes are identical. The 1nd edition indeed comes with the gray 50 point scoretrack, not the 70 point one from the 1st edition.
The rules are also identical, with 1st edition farmer scoring and small city scoring.

The River seems to be an addition someone made, but wouldn't have been included in the box when it was bought new.
Does that help answer your question?

It's sounds interesting, as it's partly co-op, and partly as per usual.
I guess the idea is that the ghosts are a common enemy to all players, so you need to work together to get rid of them, and then play the game as per normal.

As they say it's both an expansion and stand-alone game, I wonder if it will be available as a separate game, and then later with the Fog elements alone as expansion?
