UKGE 2018
« on: April 19, 2018, 03:24:09 AM »
We already have a post about the UK Championships being hosted at the UKGE, but wanted a separate post for this.

It's 43 days until the UK Games Expo, a few of us are meeting up on Friday 1st June.  So let us know if you're coming!  We should be around on the Saturday too  :(y)

Does anyone have any idea what exhibitors or presentations might be worth visiting?

I'm hoping for some promos for 7 wonders...because I missed it last year..... and the lost expedition....because I missed them last year...     >:( >:( >:(

Tempted with Ian Livingston on Fri eve. Only saw 7W promo available from a retailer if you bought stuff from them (like 7W game), but will definitely keep an eye out this year.

However, Fri eve might be a good time to meet up and play a few games before you guys head off to your hotel

Hopefully we can manage both.  I'd be tempted to see Ian Livingstone (before be becomes Deadstone)....he is one of the founding fathers of the hobby (in the UK at least).

There is more space for open gaming at the UK Games Expo than at any other UK convention and more than most shows worldwide. We estimate that there will be around 2500 seats in the open gaming areas available at all times with more after some tournaments each evening.

You need a UKGE entry ticket covering the day you wish to enter the open gaming space. Here is a list of what space is available for Open Gaming and when:

Thursday
At the NEC
Hall 2: The open gaming space in Hall 2 will open between 8pm till 11pm on Thursday night so early arrivals can get in that pre show gaming fix. Note that no entry ticket is needed for this session. You can just walk into Hall 2 at 8pm. One of the two Board Game libraries provided by Thirsty Meeples will be in this area and will be open until 11pm. Be aware that whilst we are providing this free service here is no convention on the Thursday night so other features of UKGE such as RPGs and tournaments will not be running this evening.

Friday and Saturday
At the NEC
Hall 2: The open gaming space in Hall 2 will open between 8 a.m. till 11 p.m. Here there is capacity for 1250+ One of the two Board Game libraries provided by Thirsty Meeples will be in this area and will be open from 9.30 until 11 p.m..

At the Hilton
From 10 a.m. until circa 1 a.m. large amounts of Open Gaming space are available in the Palace and Kings rooms. Between them, some 1000+ can sit and game.
The Library Room is where the second Thirsty Meeples Board Game Library will be. This will be open from around 6 p.m. both Friday and Saturday night until 11 p.m..

At the Ibis Styles
Open Gaming is permitted in the Lounge Bar of the Ibis Styles Hotel.

Sunday
At the NEC
The main day time open Gaming Space will be in the centre of Hall One NEC - the Trade Hall. Here there is capacity for 500+ TheThirsty Meeples Board Game Library will be in this area during Opening hours.

At the Hilton

Open Gaming space is available in the Palace and Kings 10am until 6pm. There is no formal board game library at the Hilton.

Note that at all times, the Hilton Lounge Bar is not part of our open gaming space and games will not be permitted in there. Note that this is a decision reached by the hotel and not UKGE.

So, for those that want to, we could see Ian Livingstone 5-7pm on Fri (http://www.ukgamesexpo.co.uk/game.php?id=LIV3897) and still have time to game in hall 2 or across the road at Hilton until 11pm. I'm liking the sound of this, anyone else?

Yay! Looks like things are starting to come together. I'm intending on getting my tickets booked this weekend (just need the kids to decide which day/s they want to go), including entertainment ticket for Ian Livingstone and a funky souvineer dice tray
