As every year, in this 2020 we have a sadly topical event such as COVID-19. Given this occurrence, doctors and researchers try to cure infected people and find a vaccine for it.
As the Spiel tile is published every year, it would be a good idea to ask to HiG, if its illustration could be referred to the most representative theme of the year. And for all this, I want to propose as a fan initiative if you would like to ask HiG that the Spiel 20 tile in any way deals about doctors or researchers exercising their activity in the context of Carcassonne, all as a tribute to their effort and so that we all remember from this game what most unites us.
Furthermore, if the tile finally had a symbolic price of, for example, one euro as a donation to fight against the virus, it would be a solidarity initiative.
What do you think?
-
I think this is a great initiative
-
Why should wait till Spiel?
HiG could publish now a special tile and sell it online for 5€ and use the money for support
-
A tile featuring a mediaeval abode of a medicant or humorist from middle ages might be appropriate.
-
It's a great idea, MeepleFan!
However, my understanding with Spiel Promo tiles is that thy are produced in batches of 4 years although they are released one per year. This would mean that we have seen the Spiel 2018 and 2019 tiles already, but Spiel 2020 and 2021 are already produced but kept in HiG's vaults.
That's why the Spiel 2014-2017 run show dark cities even when HiG were releasing base games and expansions with cities in lighter colors.
@Murphy013 It could be the moment to re-release The Plague in C2 with updated rules, right?
-
Meepledrone, you beat me to it!
I think the Plague in C2 now would be a great stunt from HiG ;D
All jokes aside, it would be nice is HiG could refer to such a global event with a commemorative tile, maybe not even the Spiel 20 tile but stand alone?
-
Hi Meepledrone,
So far I know is everything now on HiG. After the rules were finalised CarcF sent everything to HiG. If I get an update I will send a message here.

The problem I see is the same one that Meepledrone comments: if the Spiel 20 and Spiel 21 tiles are already printed, little could be done except release a different commemorative tile. :(
However, it would be a good idea if it could be done, that from now on, the Spiel tile of each year had a drawing on the most representative theme of each year, instead of something merely random. In this way it would happen a bit like with the postage stamp collections, that seeing them the main events of each year are known.

That sums it up nicely! I think this COVID-19 tile is a great idea, and having a commemorative one each year :(y)

Hi all,
I wrote yesterday Moritz and told him about our idea for a special tile to the current situation. It is a BIG BIG thank you to all which keep the daily living up, like doctors, nurses, cashiers, workers in supply chain and many more. I suggested a price of €5.00, so we can support HiG and printers too.
I will keep you in the loop.

Hi Murphy013,
Thank you so much for stepping forward.
+1 meter from me.
-
Thank you Murphy013.
Casually, today I have also sent an email to Cundco with the same request. Hopefully with so much request they can make the wish come true.
-
...And thank you MeepleFan for launching this initiative with social impact in the current situation. :(y) :(y)
+1 merit from me.

Hi all!
I've news from Cundco. They answered my email with the following message:
Thank you very much for mailing your ideas to us! We were glad to hear them and we have discussed them in our meeting.
Yet we will have more in focus some other ideas which will come in more handy for you and us (since production is a tricky topic due to Covid-19). Keep your eyes open. There will be coming something in the next week(s) :)
Best regards

Maybe a new expansion? Maybe "The Plague" re-edition? ???

Maybe "The Plague" re-edition????
Haha! That would be fitting! :black1-meeple:

CarcF was working on the conversion to C2. If so, we will finally be able to nail down some of the tricky details in the rules of this expansion, usually escaping the normal phases of a turn. >:D

CarcF was working on the conversion to C2.
I thought I read somewhere that they were done converting it? I just joined over there the other day, so I can't see any of the download area yet to confirm...

Morning all, and my first ever post here.
We were playing as a family the other night and I mentioned this thread. My youngest suggested a tile with a gameplay. If you play the tile and place a meeple on it, any players meeple within a 4 tile radius are removed and made to self isolate for a set number of turns. Either way I think the idea of a tile to aide charity is a great move.

Hi Lydster,
Congrats for your first post!
Thanks for sharing. We don't have a tile yet but I see it has captured our imagination. ;D
Cheers!

Welcome to for the forum Lydster! An interesting mechanism that your son has thought of, HiG had a mini-expansion in development, that was quite similar about 18 months ago. I'm not sure if they continued developing it.
Generally on this thread, I think that fund-raising for the fight against COVID-19 is a worthy cause. I do not think that representing a pandemic that is estimated to take the lives of 350000 people in cardboard form is entirely tasteful. If I ask myself: If a loved one died, would I actually want to own and play Carcassonne with tiles that reproduce, and entirely belittles, that terrible experience? I would not.
I'd rather see something that is unrelated, or at least embodies the sense of international cooperation towards the greater-good, or hope, without having to model the untimely deaths of citizens.
My thoughts are out to those fighting and affected by COVID-19.

Just to keep you in the loop.
Till now I got no response from Moritz. So I'm a little bit disappointed.
