Hello! :)
As previously announced, The Order of the Meeple is now here and I’ve painstakingly linked it in with my master list of scores and results from the first three online tournaments to have been run here at Carcassonne Central. Now that the final match of the Traders & Builders League has been played, I’m pleased to be able to share the following with you:
(I will track these stats throughout each subsequent online competition and update once it is complete - if you wish to opt please let me know)
Obviously it's early days yet and I'm expecting/ hoping that it will grow quickly, but we do already have 6 members of the Order of the Meeple as below:
Yellow membership level: Jere & rfielder :(y)
Green membership level: Rosco :(y)
Blue membership level: danisthirty, jungleboy & MrNumbers :(y)
I will update the list again once the current Inns & Cathedrals league is complete, and with subsequent tournaments thereafter, and I’m expecting to see new members becoming part of the Order or progressing upwards through it with continued participation.
Please let me know if you think you’ve achieved something that hasn’t been ticked-off (or if you’re feeling especially honest and you think I’ve ticked-off something that you haven’t achieved). I’ve done my best to keep this as accurately as possible but mistakes certainly can creep in. Please also check the list of achievements below as there have been a couple of subtle amendments to these since they were initially publicised:
:meeple: Order of the Meeple: Yellow
Yellow-1: Participate in at least two online tournaments (anything since and including the 2014 Base-game League)
Yellow-2: Participate in at least one weekly game

Green-1: Be a Yellow member
Green-2: Finish in the top half of all competitors taking part in any online tournament

Blue-2: Reach the knock-out stage (top 8 ) of a World Cup style online tournament
Blue-3: Win any tournament match by 60 points or more
Blue-4: Hold at least 3500 Career Points
Blue-5: Complete any individual tournament with a Total Score Differential of 75 points or more
Blue-6: Hold at least 30 Career Experience Points
Blue-7: Win a weekly game against at least 3 opponents using any combination of expansions
:red-meeple: Order of the Meeple: Red
Red-1: Be a Blue member
Red-2: Finish in the top 3 of all competitors taking part in an online tournament
Red-3: Win any tournament match by 80 points or more
Red-4: Hold at least 5000 Career Points
Red-5: Maintain a Career Score Differential of at least 350 points
Red-6: Hold at least 55 Career Experience Points
Red-7: Beat 2 existing Blue members (or higher) in a head-to-head, base-game only, best of 3 games style challenge match
:black-meeple: Order of the Meeple: Black
Black-1: Be a Red member
Black-2: Win an online competition
Black-3: Hold at least 8000 Career Points
Black-4: Maintain a Career Score Differential of at least 700 points
Black-5: Hold at least 80 Career Experience Points
Black-6: Beat 2 existing Red members (or higher) in a head-to-head, base-game only, best of 3 games style challenge match
Black-7: Beat a mystery opponent in a head-to-head, base-game only, best of 3 games style challenge match
Black-8: Win at least 5 weekly games against at least 3 opponents (all major expansions 1 – 5 should be included at least once)
Thanks to everyone for your participation so far! As you can already see, the number of people taking part in our online competitions is growing, and there are currently 21 people involved in the Inns & Cathedrals League. 8)

Great work Dan.
A random observation: both quevy and Carcking have everything required for the green meeple except Green-1, which is to already hold the yellow meeple. So if either of them plays just one weekly game, they will achieve yellow and green straight away. And if quevy won that weekly game, he would also have everything he needs to achieve blue as well. So he could achieve three different colours with just one game!
-
Dan, what are career experience points? And I must get some sort of gold star for being on 0 career differential!
-
Dan, what are career experience points? And I must get some sort of gold star for being on 0 career differential!
Career Experience Points are awarded based primarily on finishing position within individual competitions. You get 1 point per competition you take part in, regardless of finishing position, and 1 extra point for everyone else you finish ahead of in any particular competition.
So, you finished 8th in the Traders & Builders league. 18 of us took part in that so you finished ahead of 10 people and got 1 + 10 Career Experience Points. You're guaranteed at least 16 more (18 at the most) from the current league as the lowest finishing position you can get after finishing 2nd in our group is 6th overall and there are 21 of us playing.

Even though the game to settle 13th/ 14th place in the overall ranking of the Inns & Cathedrals league is yet to be played, I've updated my CarcC online tournament record with the rest of the results and have updated the "Order of the Meeple" checklist too:

(click to open in a new window in full size)
Members of Carcassonne Central have now played 253 games between them as part of the four tournaments we've held, and a total of 72,746 points have been scored in the process! A huge thanks to everyone who has been a part of this, I hope you've enjoyed the various competitions as much as I have (most of the time ;))
Congratulations to the following members who have achieved new membership levels as a result of their participation in the last tournament: :(y)

:green-meeple: Quevy

Huge congratulations to MrNumbers who has become our first member to complete all achievements to satisfy membership of the order at the Red level!
:red-meeple: MrNumbers :(y)

Congratulations MrNumbers, I think that soon will serve the rules to be meeple gray :)
-
Congratulations MrNumbers! Very well deserved. While I'm here, should I mention the results of our challenge last month? :)
-
Congratulations MrNumbers, I think that soon will serve the rules to be meeple gray :)
Since nobody else will ever reach it, I think it should be a pink meeple... ;D
Congratulations MrNumbers! Very well deserved. While I'm here, should I mention the results of our challenge last month? :)
Yes you should, but I guess you have more important things on your plate at the moment. I should post screenshots from our match too, along with my match against MrNumbers...
-
Congratulations from me, too, MrNumbers. :(y)
-
Thank you, guys! ;)
Jungleboy also is one challenge match away from achieving :red-meeple: level.
Now the fight begins for :black-meeple: level! >:D

So I guess I need to play a weekly game and hold at least 2500 career points to get green?

Question about Red-7:
Do I need to be Blue myself in order to challenge existing Blue members? I presume that it is not a requirement since it is possible to fulfill a Red or even Black acheivement even if someone is Green, for instance.
Could you confirm? Thanks!

Good question! :(y)
I don’t know if we’ve discussed it much in the open, but as you get towards the higher membership levels it is expected that there will be fewer and fewer members. If anyone at any level can issue a challenge to those at these levels then it would become increasingly difficult for the members being challenged to respond within the preferred time limit as there could quite feasibly be too many challenges for them to respond to. For this reason, I think it was decided somewhere along the lines that players should reach the blue level before being eligible to challenge anyone. But that once they have reached this level they may then challenge anyone at blue, red or black.
I hope this seems fair and sensible to you?
-
I'm 100% ok with that. Thanks
-
Another precision please :)
Blue-7: "using any combination of expansions"
Can it be zero expansions or at least one must be included?
-
Another precision please :)
Blue-7: "using any combination of expansions"
Can it be zero expansions or at least one must be included?
Another good question! :(y)
Weekly games are referenced in the requirements of three different levels of the Order of the Meeple. The main reason for its inclusion is different at each stage:
Yellow-2 is about taking part in a weekly game purely for the purpose of discovering it and becoming a more closely-integrated member of CarcC’s JCZ community
Blue-7 is about winning a game against three or more opponents to demonstrate an understanding of how tactics change against multiple opponents
Black-8 is about showing commitment, consistency and a good degree of tactical knowledge when playing with each of the 5 major expansions
With this in mind, the expansions are most relevant at Black-8 so it seems entirely acceptable to me that a 4-player game using just the basic tiles could be won to achieve Blue-7. Furthermore, this victory would also count part of the way towards Black-8 but wouldn’t help much in terms of expansions covered!
Finally, it’s also worth noting that the definition of a “weekly game” is fairly loose in this sense. It’s just as good, worthy and qualifyable if you happen to be available and join in when a group of people are getting together to play a game, as it is to be part of a pre-arranged game that has been planned and discussed on the “Weekly Game” thread. Please remember to submit a screenshot afterwards though, along with a brief account of the game if you so wish.

Short questions, long answers! Many thanks!
I realise what I wrote was very French... by precision I meant clarification.

No problem at all. I thought it was worth elaborating so that everyone could see the method in the madness. Well, some method anyway. :o

With bribes like that I'm sure you could bribe your way all the way up to the black level before the next competition! :)

I seem to have a ridiculously low score diferencial. That is goibg to take some serious work to rectify. Is it just the leagues that count for this?

The -107 you ended up with after the first league didn't do you any favours.
Things seem to be heading back in the right direction now though. Don't lose heart! :neutral-meeple:
EDIT: I forgot to say, leagues and world cups are the only tournaments that count towards this at the moment. Hopefully you can see this from the table. There are links to weekly games and challenge matches for specific achievements but individual scores/ PD from these aren't counted towards the Order. At present, the Last Meeple Standing isn't included either but I might think about how this could be included once it's gone live (rather than the current trial).

On the table, what is the black line above zone 2 ?

It is out of respect for Paul's wishes to not be affiliated with the Order of the Meeple (http://www.carcassonnecentral.com/community/index.php?topic=1526.msg19820#msg19820). I have to keep track of his scores on the master list though as the numbers don't add up if anything is missing and I rely on various formulas which take everything into account in order to ensure that I haven't made any mistakes. To keep it simple I just black out his stats.
-
That makes sense. good plan

which means the colors in this table???
-
which means the colors in this table???
Sorry jma03, I'm not sure I fully understand the question.
The colours represent the different achievements towards the Order of the Meeple as described here (http://www.carcassonnecentral.com/community/index.php?topic=1618.msg21001#msg21001). When an individual completes all achievements for a specific level I complete that part of the table for them by filling it in with the colour corresponding to the level they've achieved. :yellow-meeple: :green-meeple: :blue-meeple: :red-meeple: or :black1-meeple: (eventually)

I have seen page 1 where this description of colors¡¡¡

If I'm not mistaken then Blue-5 should be awarded to aenima, farin and me. All 3 of us have already achieved a Total Score Differential of 75 points or more in at least one individual tournament:
- aenima's TSD in I&C League was +130,
- farin' TSD in I&C League was +261,
- my TSD in I&C League was +348.
Is that correct?

Thanks a lot for the summary, Dan! And it's me who don't check the forum on a daily basis, so don't worry at all about keeping me waiting. There's always a lot of resources for me to check on the forum. When I asked that question, I hadn't noticed the form... you see, I'm really blind... I was only reading the text. Anyway, thanks for confirming that I'm just one step away from the Green Order.
-
Thanks Dan!
Regarding my Yellow-2, I've played weekly games on April 16th and 23rd, no wins.

Cool, I was pretty sure you had. So all you need to do now is to take part in one more online competition and you'll have achieved membership at the Yellow level! :(y)

Blue-2: Reach the knock-out stage (top 8 ) of a World Cup style online tournament
I assume, this means knock-out stage AND top 8? In this case, reaching Round 2 of KO stage would be required to meet this condition in the current WC.
Also: Are there any plans, to evaluate the ranks 17-20 for Green-2?

Correct. Based on last year's World Cup it was never anticipated that there would be more than 8 people reaching the knock-out stage...
-
I see. The second question, I edited in, while you replied was a rather dull one, considering, that in the chart of the 2014 league, all ranks from 1 to 18 are assigned individually.
One thing, which I think was never explained, and makes me curiouse is, what this "Differential Booster" is.
-
Also: Are there any plans, to evaluate the ranks 17-20 for Green-2?
Absolutely. Everyone will get a rank from 1 - 40. Those finishers in the top 20 will earn Green-2 for finishing in the top half.
One thing, which I think was never explained, and makes me curiouse is, what this "Differential Booster" is.
These numbers are added to people's overall PD to prevent them from dropping below 200. If their PD does drop below 200 it is "boosted" by increasing the differential booster in this way. Some people would have such a low PD by now that it would be more or less impossible to reach some of the higher PD-related achievements so -200 is considered the lowest it can go so that they still have a chance to catch up if necessary.
-
As somebody, who profited from this already, I consider this booster a little unfair to others. I know, it would be a little more of back tracking, but would suggest a modus like in the ATP/WTA ranks for the PD: only point differences scored up to a specific time in the past are calculated. In the tennis competitions this are in the past year, but that might be a bit tough for getting 700 points in just such a short amount of time, so maybe 2 years instead?
Like all the other requirements, I suppose, you only have to achieve them once, you won't loose a rank, when you fall back in your Careere Score Differential. So for each member, there would be no need to track further, after 700 points have been accomplished first time.
EDIT: On second thought, Dan and MrNumbers already meet the 700 points, and both within less then a year. Between WC 2014 and A&M League 2015, so one year of back tracking might be enough.
-
Hi Dan,
On top of Yellow-1 acheived by entering the WC2015 I believe I achieved the Green-3 by winning by 46 on the match of the A&M League against Leven.
-
Hi Dan,
On top of Yellow-1 acheived by entering the WC2015 I believe I achieved the Green-3 by winning by 46 on the match of the A&M League against Leven.
Hi Chooselife!
You’re quite right of course, your best win being a 46-point win over Leven during the Abbey & Mayor league (group stage). This means you just need Green 2 & 4 to achieve membership at the Green level since you already hold Yellow. Green 4 is just a matter of time as it requires 2500 points (you’re currently on 1973) and you were very close to Green 2 (finish in the top half of a competition) when you finished 11th out of 21 in the Abbey & Mayor league. Next time!
The reason none of this is shown on the most recent image here is that I only usually update it at the end of each competition, and then take a snapshot. So there will be another update at the end of the currently ongoing World Cup which will bring everyone up to speed.
I’m starting to think that maybe a Google docs approach would be better in this respect. I’ll look into it and see what I can do... :)

How did I finish in the last league? I just need to finish in the top half to get green as well.

How did I finish in the last league? I just need to finish in the top half to get green as well.
If you're talking about the world cup, then the final ranking hasn't been completely determined yet as the top 8 places are yet to be decided. I can however confirm that you placed 19th out of 40 which puts you inside the top half with a position to spare! So Green-2 is yours; welcome to the Green membership level! :green-meeple: 8) :(y)
@Rosco: ::)
how do i get 'carreer experience points'?
-
Ha ha ha si how do I do that then?
-
Ha ha ha si how do I do that then?
Do what? Win career experience points? I'm not sure I can explain it any more clearly than I did above. Basically, take part in a competition and get 1 experience point. Avoid coming last and you will get an additional experience point for everyone you finish ahead of.
-
I was joking because I have obvously asked the same question previously.
-
I can't tell you what a relief that is. I was starting to think you were either mad or illiterate... :))
-
There haven't been any update after WC yet, have there?
-
I am waiting for it too. I go up a level I believe.
-
Yes, sorry. I was going to turn the spreadsheet into a Google Doc since the screenshots were getting too hard to view properly. But then I just didn't do anything with it. :-[

I've just finished updating the post-World Cup Order of the Meeple. 8) It is now available as a Google Docs spreadsheet thingy and can be accessed by clicking on the link below:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BzZ7BV8WB8T_aE5jOExjM1JjNzQ/view?usp=sharing
If I've done what I think I've done then nobody apart from me should be able to make any changes to it, but don't be surprised if you find that you can (do also please let me know if this is the case)...
You'll see that it includes three tabs. The first tab should be of interest to anyone who has ever taken part in any of our online competitions. If this is you, you should find your name on here along with a summary of how you performed and a breakdown of which Order of the Meeple tasks you've achieved so far (see third tab for a more detailed breakdown of these). The second tab is a list of all games that have taken place as part of any of the online competitions. It's a bit more difficult to search without the Auto-Filters that Excel has but these seem to have fallen off during the uploading process. ???
If you have one, please check your own record on the spreadsheet and let me know if I've not ticked anything you should have (or have ticked anything you shouldn't have). I have checked it a few times, but mistakes remain a possibility. :-[ All being well though, here's a quick recap of where my records suggest that we all are:

All right! Sometimes in March I will do that. Sounds very exciting!
Thanks for your hard work! It's brilliant!
-
Merritt for the effort. I've been looking forward to this for quite some time, as I quite dig into this. It really motivates for tournaments, as well. Even with the not-so-well-going P&D League now, I think Red-4 will be already granted for me, while Red-6 I still have a chance to gain, if the remaining games go well for me.
Of course, Blue-5 (and Red-5) are among the toughest for me. Not, that I think, I'm likely to win a tournament in the near future, but if I should, by improved skill over time or sheer luck, I wouldn't be too surprised, if I would still fail, unlocking Blue-5 with it. It's still nice, to be the second achieving Black-8, nevertheless. 8)
It is interesting, that all what Carcking, farin, ny1050220, SRBO and zone2 would need, to become green right away, would be participating in a "Weekly Online Game". (And by winning this game, if there are minimum 3 opponents, Carcking, farin or zone2 would even get right away blue.) Of course, for NY this might be tough, due to the time difference.
-
Of course, for NY this might be tough, due to the time difference.
Carcking is in the same time zone as NY.

How can people get involved in these tournaments? I'd love to play some other people

Check out the Leagues- (http://www.carcassonnecentral.com/community/index.php?board=28.0) and WC- (http://www.carcassonnecentral.com/community/index.php?board=29.0)Forum for announcement, and also the Weekly Online Games (http://www.carcassonnecentral.com/community/index.php?topic=1041.0). Once, you participate in any of these, Dan will automatically sign you in for the Order as well. (Unless, you deliberately do not want to.)
-
It's nice to see some more people at blue so we can have more challenges to try to get to red. Once upon a time I beat MrNumbers in two challenge matches but I keep losing to Dan in my other challenges so I'm stuck on blue...
-

You are absolutely correct. You have achieved Red-6 and this should have been ticked off. I will update it on my spreadsheet so you will see this amended at the end of the Princess & Dragon league.

Yes, I'm also really pleased to see more people climbing up and reaching some of the higher levels. Long may this continue! :)

Based on the very limited number of online games including four or more players that have been played so far as part of the Weekly Game series, it was decided that the criteria for achieving Blue-7 ("Win a weekly game against at least 3 opponents using any combination of expansions") and Black-8 ("Win at least 5 weekly games against at least 3 opponents (all major expansions 1 – 5 should be included at least once)") should be relaxed. This has been done by removing the dependency on these being achieved purely through 4+ player games and reducing it to make any 3+ player games equally eligible. :)
Obviously this has shaken things up quite a lot so I’ve gone to a fair bit of trouble producing the list below in order to keep track of everyone’s achievements in this area. This only goes up to the end of 2015 at present so will need to be updated soon, but I wanted to post it here anyway so that it’s known about. My hope is that it will be helpful for O of the M progression by providing everyone with the exact details of what they need to do to progress in the areas described above: O:-)

Any questions, please ask (and please point out any mistakes too)!
PS - I'm already aware that it may be an idea to extend this list to include the names of everyone who has ever taken part in a "Weekly Game" regardless of whether they won it (Yellow-2), but this will require yet more time to go through the thread again (now at approximately 550 posts!)...
-
It is interesting, that all what Carcking, farin, ny1050220, SRBO and zone2 would need, to become green right away, would be participating in a "Weekly Online Game". (And by winning this game, if there are minimum 3 opponents, Carcking, farin or zone2 would even get right away blue.) Of course, for NY this might be tough, due to the time difference.
So what is a weekly online game? Like a friendly game with whatever expansions? And do I have to provide a screenshot? Okay, already too many questions.

There is a thread for it on the forums here: http://www.carcassonnecentral.com/community/index.php?topic=1041
Originally we tried to have an online game every week (on Thursdays) but there's no restrictions on when they need to happen; any online game played with other members of the forums counts as long as you post a screenshot afterwards... :)
-
It's probably also worth noting that there is a Friendly Games (http://www.carcassonnecentral.com/community/index.php?topic=1966.msg26376#msg26376) thread as well. I think the friendly games thread should typically be for two-player games and the weekly online game thread for 3+ players. Do others agree and if so, should we make that 'official'?
-
But we also have the PLAY ME NOW! (http://www.carcassonnecentral.com/community/index.php?topic=2109) and We organize a game now? (http://www.carcassonnecentral.com/community/index.php?topic=1404) threads. Where do they fit in? ???

Very interesting idea, that Order-thing! ;)
I've got an explanation by Dan via PM, but I'm not sure what the Career Experience Points are. The Career Points are the scored Ponts in the Leagues, or am I wrong? But how do I gain the Exp.? It may be possible though, that I missed the explanation in this topic....

With the P & D league behind us and the Tower league due to begin soon(ish), it's high time I updated the Order of the Meeple spreadsheet. It has really become quite a lot of work keeping this up to date lately, but I'm happy to do so for as long as it is interesting to anyone. Just as I did last time, this release has been made available via Google Docs and can be reached on the link below (there are 3 tabs to it):
https://drive.google.com/open?id=0BzZ7BV8WB8T_Ml9XU2dkaHJaSDQ
If you have one, please check your own record on the spreadsheet and let me know if I've not ticked anything you should have (or have ticked anything you shouldn't have). I have checked it a few times, but mistakes remain a possibility. :-[ All being well though, here's a quick recap of where my records suggest that we all are:

Congratulations to everyone above! :(y) If you have any questions please ask here! :)
EDIT: A :(y) in the list above isn't blatant favouritism, I've just used this to represent those members who have moved up a level since the last update! 8)

Is the order of the meeple still ongoing?

Is the order of the meeple still ongoing?
Normally it is updated after each tournament, so max 3-4 times per year.
-
Indeed. I did log all the scores and positions after our Tower league but I never uploaded it. Now that last years World Cup is behind us I'll update it again and upload as soon as it's finished so stay tuned! :)
-
Marvellous. Looking forward to getting involved.....or not if I'm still ineligible.

Just a quick note to let everyone know that I haven't quite updated the post-World Cup 2016 Order of the Meeple standings yet, but I have got all the scores into my spreadsheet. Because I'm a database guy at heart, I find Excel quite limiting so I imported all of the data into SQL Server today and then spent a little while writing some queries to generate the stats shown in the table below:
(if I'd tried to do something like this in Excel it would have taken me weeks and would more than likely have been riddled with errors)
So we've now held a total of 9 (qualifying) competitions consisting of 702 games, and 220,235 points have been scored along the way! There's lots of other little bits of interesting information in the chart but I'll leave those for you to find for yourselves! ;)

Kettlefish has 2 tied games out of 18 games played. That's a lot.

Indeed. A ninth.

Please don't tell Grabushka, but I find this table very sexy.

For the sake of your son I'll keep it between us... :-X

Hi all,
Sorry for the delay folks, but I'm happy to report that I've finally got round to uploading the latest version of the Order of the Meeple spreadsheet. This includes everything up to and including the 2016 World Cup of Carcassonne Central (9 tournaments so far) and can be found via the link below:

(please note that this contains 3 tabs)
As the self-proclaimed "Guardian of the Order of the Meeple" I'm happy to continue working on the Order of the Meeple and have even started using an SQL database as well as this spreadsheet to check individual players' eligibility for certain achievements. However, please realise that keeping track of who has achieved what is now far more time-consuming than it was two years ago when the order was first introduced. As such, please check your own record carefully and do let me know if I haven't ticked off something that I should have done or have ticked off something that I shouldn't have done. I'm certainly being as meticulous as possible to make sure I've checked everything, but I'm as fallible as anyone else and can't guarantee it will be 100% accurate...

I think I should have Black-3 (more than 8000 career pts). C:-)

Indeed you should. Not sure how that one got missed as it was supposed to be picked up by one of the database queries!
Anyway, I've updated it in my record now. Thankies Jéré :(y)

Hi all!
Apparently it’s been more than a year since I last updated the Order of the Meeple so apologies for the delay in making this available once again (Google Doc): 8)
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1EbcmgZm1plFjZo3MoHMbVZPSbdlfB-dz/view?usp=sharing
I’ve added details from the Bridges, Castles & Bazaars league (http://www.carcassonnecentral.com/community/index.php?topic=3221.msg48786#msg48786), the Mixed Minis league (http://www.carcassonnecentral.com/community/index.php?topic=3557.msg53558#msg53558) and the Basegame League (http://www.carcassonnecentral.com/community/index.php?topic=3585.msg53265#msg53265) of 2017 and have updated everyone’s achievements correspondingly. As always though, please do check and let me know if you think I’ve missed something or have given something out that I shouldn’t have.
The 2017 World Cup of Carcassonne Central hasn’t been included as this is still underway. ::)
The spreadsheet now includes 4 tabs. The first (“Order of the Meeple”) is a list of the achievements that are required for each level, the second (“CarcC Careers”) is a breakdown of tournaments played and achievements awarded, the third (“Game Scores”) is a record of all qualifying games played to date, and the fourth (“Summary by Game”) is a player summary in terms of games played/ won/ lost/ drawn. Hopefully there will be something of interest for everyone! :(y)
Any questions or comments please post here!

The black level seems to get further and further out of my reach with each update...

I can give you some time to contact Carcassonner then I could challenge a mystery opponent from Russia. :))

By his own admission he is a little out of practice at the moment. But maybe Merlin_89 could set us up with a certain friend of his who is apparently rather good at Carcassonne... ?
