Leagues (including expansion leagues) / Re: The Basegame (Double) League
« on: August 24, 2021, 12:01:04 PM »
Hi there,

I'm terribly sorry for reacting that slow.  Life has been very hectic for me, lately (starting up my own architects' practice, designing my own house & first baby on the way,...) and at the moment I finally tried to log in Carcassonne Central...well...then it was down.

Anyway, if i'm not too late...i would like to try to play these games as soon as possible.  Wednesday evenings, around 19:00 till 21:00 CET usually work out the best.

PS: I'm only used to play with JCloisterzone if that's possible for you folks?

Greetings,
Thodekey

Hello there,

It's been a very long while (busy times) but i'd love to join this league if that's still possible.
CEST is my zone.  ;)

Hello Leven,

I think that would work for me too.  I'll be hanging around in Slack around 21:00 CET.

I am but we already played, did we?

Just to say: if 2 other players would be available, know that I'm available to play as well.  But it goes without saying, Dan has priority...he asked first.

Anyone up for a game this Thursday at around 8:30pm UK time?

Good report after a very enjoyable game.  For once, gold was on my side.
I was indeed assuming you would post the outcome as you won (yes, you did!) and your reports ar far better than my reports are.

danisthirty (3.5: roads, cities, cloisters, joint farms) - thodekey (1.5: join farms, game)

I think I was supposed to report our game to the forums, but I was leaving it to thodekey as he won on points, and I guess he was leaving it to me as I won on The Steve Allen points. Sorry for the delay in any case. Anyway, hello. Thodekey and I played our game last Thursday and it was a belter of a whopper...

I felt completely outplayed in this game so was surprised to see that thodekey only won by one point, and even more surprised to see that I took more league points than he did. It was a bit frustrating in places as I seem to remember spending a surprising amount of time with no meeples, waiting for a common tile to come along. But fortunately I got it in time to win some points and free up a meeple which I used to fight back for the farm which ended up being tied. However, thodekey admitted to me after the game that he'd made a bit of a mistake in this respect and committed his last meeple to it thinking he needed to join it on to tie the farm rather than winning it outright. I was able to block him here, but was certainly on the edge of my seat for the last half a dozen or so tiles!

I also felt thodekey was unlucky not to close his city to the east which would certainly have made a big difference to the scores if only for the extra gold it would have won him as much as anything else. I did not have a lot of influence over where the gold ended up as I only drew one of the Goldminers tiles, but still managed to grab a few bars if only to stop thodekey from getting them as much as anything else! Fliers were useless. Again, I only drew one of them, but there was no flying whatsoever from either of us so it felt like quite a traditional/ basic game in this sense.

Thanks for the game thodekey, and good luck with the rest of the competition!

Congrats danissecond!

Well played and nice report!  And for me it seems "second place is the first winner after the first winner"  ;)

Hello gentlemen,

Indeed a big thank you to The OneAndOnlySteve for all the effort he puts in this competition.
Also a special thanks to all of the competitors for making it possible to play all of the games and to all the people who have been so kind to host these games.

Allready looking forward to the summer edition.

Your "Knoble Knight" Thodekey  ;)

Rosco  :red-meeple: 0 - 5  :blue-meeple: Thodekey

Many tiles, many cloisters, many city parts and gold! That ought te be the recipe for a challenging game.
Both of us started building our own city and making it bigger with the builder.  One of the key factors was that I was lucky to complete mine quite fast while Rosco -also due to my nevertheless not succeeded attempt of blocking that city- struggled in completing his one.
I drew some gold tiles in the start, Rosco per caught up on me on that one.

In scoring cloisters, both of us were quite cautious.  I succeeded in closing on of my cloisters while I could block one of Rosco's cloisters.
I was lucky to share the city in the far north and leading 2-1 in the city just below that one, including my builder.  In one turn, I could complete that one and the one above...which not only gave me some extra points advantage but also gave me the upper hand in the trading goods. (till that point, Rosco was leading in it)
The end, we both concentrated on the largest farm I had claimed first.  With a golden round-a-bout Rosco took the gamble of joining that farm and even increasing it more.  With some big luck, I succeeded in joining 2 more farmers and blocked one attempt of Rosco.

The result was a 0-5 score, although the game sure didn't feel unbalanced.  It just was one of those rare occasions where all the right tiles came my way on the right moment.

I wish you the best in your upcoming games, Rosco!

And for the gold: well, I lost that feature again on points.  And the same goes up for the consumed time.  ???

Impressive, Dan!  ^-^

I hereby challenge Mr Numbers and Rosco.
I'm willing to play on these moments:

- thursday evening
- friday evening
- saturday during the day, not in the evening
- sunday during the day or evening
(and yes, Dan, i know that's technically after Friday but hey...living on the edge eh)

Would that work for you gentlemen?

 :blue-meeple: Thodekey vs  :red-meeple: Rich_The_Fish 4-1

I couldn't blame Lady Luck in this enjoy game.  We played a quite defensive game on both sides, due to the tower expansion.  Some turning points decided the overall score:
- early on, I was able to trap 2 meeples of Rich in one move...Rich could only free both of them with that 1 RFCF-tile from the tower expansion but I drew that one.
- Rich possessed quite late the main farm but I captured his farmer some 10 tiles before the end.  After that, it was a "coin flip" who would take the farm back and again I was lucky
- we both completed 1 cloister, all others weren't scored due to the towers.  In my 2nd last turn, I drew the last cloister tile and placed it somewhere safe from the towers.  If Rich had drawn that tile, we would have won that feature.
- Rich's wife and daughter helped me in distracting Rich from this game (I owe them some beer and treats)  ;)

Good luck with the rest of your games and thank you for the game!
