Puerto Rico played
« on: June 15, 2014, 12:51:32 PM »
Today, Sunday, after our soccer game we sat down for two rounds of Puerto Rico.

The first game we (6 players, 5 teams with one having 2 members) were playing in the wild, reading rules as we went along. A lot of mistakes were made but it was a great way for all of us to learn the game, rather than we sit down and just read the rules.

I won this first match because of a devious play on my part. I had 15 Victory points and thus in the lead. What I did was exhausting the colonists pile so the game would end and after counting the final score, I won!

Second game turn out to be a disaster (for me). I think the game has a flaw:
I was stuck with Indigo supplies (3x) while another player had 7x of them. Each two rounds he could gain supply, use the Captain and score points and I got no supply at all and thus never was able to score, trade or stack them.

Looking at other options, which is nice to have, like colonists on the purple cards, this was not really balanced. For each two rounds they scored 7 Victory points, I had to spend 6 rounds and not being able to get anything.

Latter half of the game looked like this:
The other players got every round between 4-10 Victory points.
I got 0 (zero).

Because of zero Victory points and supplies, all I could do was to try get Prospecting and money to buy things I could never use.
Sure, it would have been my turn eventually to be the Governor but by that time it was already too late (game ended before). A total of 5 rounds I sat there unable to do anything.

Despite all of this, it was a fun game and we will surely play it again nearfuture, which by that time I have read the rules properly on my own and looked at some good strategy by other players online.  >:D

Next week, it's Carcassonne time again if we have the time after we play Small World!

Hi Yellow,
nice review....

I've looked at BGG, in this game are many different sorts of cards and wooden pieces...

Here is the link to BGG - Puerto Rico

Yellow, beautiful relationship.
The great thing about PR is the interaction that exists between the players, you have to be careful about what they do, sometimes it is more useful to make the action to the post of player who would gain more advantage than doing what you would.
A knight is sworn to valour.
His heart knows only virtue.
His blade defends the helpless.
His might upholds the weak.
His word speaks only truth.
His wrath undoes the wicked.
