Santa does exist! And he came a few days early!
Yes, you read the heading correctly. It's been more than half a year, but here it is: the new CAR! Lots of clarifications, a revised Turn Order, the Halflings, the Promos, and even a bit of New Carcassonne. But wait, there's more! If you order now, you'll get this limited edition* Winter CAR containing new clarifications and Turn Order at no extra charge.
Standard CAR: http://www.carcassonnecentral.com/community/index.php?action=downloads;sa=view;down=275 (http://www.carcassonnecentral.com/community/index.php?action=downloads;sa=view;down=275)

*Edition not actually limited.

Hi obervet,
thank you for the new S-CAR v 7.3 and W-CAR v 1.2.

Thanks for all your work on this, it's a document that we couldn't do without. And just the other day I was wondering to myself why there wasn't a winter edition CAR - and now we have one! Thanks again.

Fantastic work obervet!! What can I say? :(y) :(y) :(y)

I notice that the cover page of the new CAR does not feature an image of the new Carcassonne but has a roman II disguised to look like an arrowslit window in a tower instead.
A bit like spelling out D-I-V-O-R-C-E so the kids (or Billy Connolly's Little Dog) wont realize what is happening.

Christmas came early this year :D

Very nice. I've been reading through the new expansions to see how poorly I've been playing them. I still don't know why you skip including Count, King & Cult on the cover, though. I think at this point it makes sense. The combo expansion has been out nearly as long as the individual minis now.
Also, the Dutch Monasteries definitely need some work in the historical descriptions. They're a bit jumbled right now.
Now, back to reading...
Another edit: Two tiles are missing on the tile summary for The River (I).
Further argument for my Count, King & Cult cover point. The King came out in 2003, the Count in 2004, and the River II in 2005. The Cult came out in 2008 alongside the combined expansion. That was six years ago this year. It was only five years between The King and the compilation, and progressively fewer years for the subsequent three expansions. We've definitely reached the point where most modern owners of the game will own the compilation rather than the stand-alone minis. Rio Grande hasn't sold the stand-alones since 2008 or so, and Z-Man has never sold them. They are still available from Cundco, but that's overstock at best. I say we list the four expansions together and begin treating them like any other large expansion.

Great stuff overvet, this is pretty much the final nail in the coffin for my Christmas card writing...
Many thanks for all your hard work in continuing to compile this monster document! :)

Easy answer -- I don't make the covers. You should make an appeal to danielbrie for that.
Also, the Dutch Monasteries definitely need some work in the historical descriptions. They're a bit jumbled right now.
Agreed. I tweaked a couple of the auto translations, but I admit I didn't spend that much time on them this go-around.
Another edit: Two tiles are missing on the tile summary for The River (I).
They're only sort of missing. The plain straight and plain curved river bits are marked with "x2" to account for the functional duplication. Graphically there are minimal differences, as you can see on the newer tiles (since I included them all individually for the Big Box 5 version), but this isn't any different than minimal graphical tweaks on other tiles (different buildings in cities, animal pens on fields, etc).

Good points. That's probably a good project for the spring 2015 version. With HiG's usual release cycles, there are too many releases in the fall for me to put lots of effort into the older sections (other than clarifications). This time the big extra project was the turn order, too. Spring is usually quieter, so consider this rearrangement on my list.

Great job on the new version!

Great work!! Quick question- is the order of the expansions in the CAR chronological of release date? I understand the early ones are, but with Darmstadt, Spiel 14, the New Edition, Halflings, etc. all this year, I've gotten a bit confused as to what came out in what order.
Just wanted to clarify the order is correct chronologically. Thanks!

I tried to get them in chronological order, but I'm not 100% sure, because there seemed to be some fuzziness about when some of them were actually released and available. What I know is:
Halflings I (Spielbox 5/2014): ~Oct 13 for English, earlier for German
Spiel 2014: Oct 16-19
Darmstadt Spielt: Nov 15-16 (but tiles available at Spiel 2014)
Obviously I put Halflings II with Halflings I even if they weren't available simultaneously. I'm not positive about dates for Big Box 5 and Carcassonne II.

Oh well. There goes my Christmas. I will be inside reading the CAR instead of enjoying the summer. 8)

Amazing, looking forward to reading them soon. :(y)

Thanks obervet. The effort that you put into this for all of us is very much appreciated.

that strange feeling you get when you forgot that its actually summer on the south part of the world, while its freezing here..

I live in Sweden, which is supposed to be North enough for snow and cold, but so far we've not had a single snow day in my town for little over a year. ::)
We used to, though. Full fledged winter with snow the entire season. I miss it. The white ground; Biking in the snow. Also, I promised my cousin I'd go skinny dipping if it snows and the lake freezes over!

Thanks!

Hello obervet, thank you for the new rules!
My translation work continues on the previous version, and although this work takes me a long time, and even though I can not always translate clearly some concepts, it is a satisfaction to do it. At the time I managed to complete everything until chapter of the Count, but family problems prevented me from continuing further.
Anyway I take this opportunity to you and all to wish Happy New Year
Andrea

I just got Hills and Sheep today and checked in to see what has been happening.
Then I find the latest updated CAR. It is great.
Thanks for your work obervet
Happy New Year to all
-
Thank you very much.

Thanks for a big update, I am just finishing to translate all the new things to Latvian.
One little addition:
Obervet, don't you think that we should include in footnote 482 also Messages?

You are correct. Good catch! I'll add it to the new version.
-
I must say, I do not really see the point, why you do not treat German and Dutch Monasteries in just one paragraph. However footnote 515 belongs to the Dutch version, but still referees to the German one.

I missed that spot in the edits for CAR v 7.3. But the monasteries will all be combined into one section for the next CAR, so that shouldn't be an issue in the future. In fact, that merging has already been done -- the new docx file is sitting on my desktop, waiting for release to the world. I'm just going to wait for answers to the most recent round of clarifications that I sent to kettlefish, then CAR 7.4 will be able to sprout wings and fly.
-
I will have my clarification time together with Georg Wild from HiG - 12 03 2015.
-
Hello, I just found a little mistake, if nobody had segnalao before I hope will be helpful.
-
Good catch! Consider it corrected now.
