Anything Else / As luck would have it.
« on: September 27, 2021, 12:50:17 PM »
So I just bought a used old art basegame with Graf mini exp from someone. Paid only 150 Swedish Krona, which is just under 15 Euro and box and tiles in very good condition.
On my way home, dark, late, wind and tired รค, the wind threw a 200 Swedish Krona bill on to me. :)

General / Inlays placement.

Popping the inlays back in I realised this is a far better storage, for expansions at least.

Upsidedown.

Anything Else / New European Union law may affect this site.
« on: September 20, 2018, 08:42:50 AM »
So there are 2 new laws that may be added to the European Union soon.

1. External links has to be used by permission.

2. No copyright materials are to be used whatsoever without concent from the owner.

I'm wondering if these (or one of them) will affect this forum if passed the final vote.

The Marketplace / River / River III from Big Box 5 on the market.
« on: September 03, 2017, 01:30:13 AM »
Anyone know how to find this in specific when searching marketplaces and / or have a rough idea of its value?

Looking for ways to help people if I acquire a few of these to sell non-profit. Ok, maybe just a little but barely noticeable.  8)

Official Rules / mobile-CAR
« on: May 12, 2017, 12:04:54 PM »
I'm not sure a footnote from the v1CAR is going to be valid though, we've already determined that v2 is required.  The published rules have been rewritten and will have to be re-verified for CARv2.

This is one of many reasons why an app is the way to go for the new CAR. You'd then be able to pick a "version" and it will show only those rules. Even then, during play, you can maybe click a button to show older or newer rule changes. The flexibility I feel is something that is needed at this point.
If someone only like some of the new rules or vice versa, they can make a custom rule set, save it, upload it for sharing. Maybe even integrate this with the Java program for the tournaments.

Anything Else / GothCon 2017
« on: April 07, 2017, 06:43:04 AM »
Next week GothCon will be held on April 14th - April 16th here in Gothenburg and I'll be there in case anyone from here will as well. :)

I also realise how fast it's been since last year and that I have so much unfinished business, not only in regards to previous GothCon but much else in the forum and outside.

With this thread I hope to at least get some pictures to upload on this years event, or if anyone wants to discuss it, feel free to do so here!

Reviews & Session Reports / Twilight Imperium Dec 10 (not 12), 2016
« on: December 10, 2016, 05:23:02 PM »
My Saturday ended up me playing Twilight Imperium for the first time.

5pl game that took us roughy 6 hours excluding rule explanation and lunch break. As a first timer, the game was a lot of fun and hope to reprise the play in the near future.

As two of us was completely new to this game, the game took some funny turns. I managed to take control of the central area (Mechanon-something) thru assault and was about to do a final blow where I would conquer two systems by attacking two opponents, keeping the central system and gain the last 3 victory points needed to win the game. (A Political card was out allowing the player controlling the central area only 9 vp to win.)

Alas things failed as the player in the lead with Strategy 8 in his turn managed to score multiple victory points ending up at 10 vp win!

I was the blue figures, played a war race called L1zkit-something.

Anything Else / Warcraft movie SPOILER FREE
« on: June 01, 2016, 11:53:40 AM »
Hi guys. Hope you all are enjoying the summer as I am. Although it's less Carcassonne for me it's certainly not less board games.

So today I got to see Warcraft the movie. I enjoyed it very much and hope they'll make sequel.

I love how they put little nods of many things into the movie but not interrupting the story.

Anyone seen it and if so, what was your impression? Planning to go see it?

Please keep this thread spoiler free.

So today, Saturday May 21st I got a chance to play Civilization the board game. And it was not the smaller normal game, but the big one! It supports up to 18 players with a map span of 2 meters wide.

Our game was held by 9 players (half the map I believe) and we played for about 12 and a half hours, starting little after 10 am. With only one break (for lunch) we ended the game late same day which was a nice suprise. We estimated we'd play thru the night but it was really a good balanced game with players not spending too much time doing their turns.
Also, this game supports simultaneous turns so there was not a lot of waiting for the other guy.

I had a blast playing the game (first time playing) and signed up for the next month's game!

Hopefully, I can convince the other players to allow for some live streaming next game, which is set to take place on June 18th.

And yes, I came dead last, playing as Hellas, stuck literally in the center of all the other nations getting much attention. But no matter, I still had fun! My score was 71, where the second last had over 100 and the winner, whom also broke the house record, ended up with 245 points (if I remember correctly).

One of the fun aspects of the game is the trading phase. We'd all get up from the table and standing in an open section of the room, starting a 10 min timer, and then to try trade as much as we could talking over one another etc. I would have loved to have that on film but was not able to film much.

Reviews & Session Reports / TableTop day 2016
« on: April 30, 2016, 04:52:05 PM »
After a late evening, I managed to get to the local board game club (where we did our world record game tests) to celebrate TableTop day. I arrived at 9:30 pm, 30 mins before closing but there were still many people there.

I recognized a few faces, 2 of them were at the convention where we held the record.

Also, 4 people were starting a game of Dominion and I was asked to jump in, so naturally I did! Never played it so this was a good opportunity.
The rules aren't that difficult and we did not play with any expansions (I think :) ). Game lasted longer than anticipated ending at almost half hour past Midnight (from starting roughly a quarter to 10 pm).

I don't remember the final scoring but It's safe to say I came last, with a mere 11 points (after 5 Curse cards calculation x_x). Definately hope to play this again but not something I am going to buy.

The people there are just amazing and cheerful and so easy to talk to. We bonded and I got to know those 6 people that stayed. Afterwards, we closed up the club and took a stroll further down town until it was time to say goodbye.
We are celebrating Vahlborg here in Sweden, basically our "demonstration day" where most of us get drunk the night before and have demonstration marches the day after (May 1st). :D I didn't drink though, got to be up in a few hours for the football game "today", Sunday morning.

I also became a member at the club and will try to visit more often to play games with them, and hopefully give you guys some more game reviews and session reports (on top of everything else that I am falling behind on. ;) ).

A really great ending for this day. Hope you guys had as great on the England meetup and elsewhere around the globe. Cheers!

Prologue

So how did all start? I can't recall exactly when, but I'm pretty sure it started at CarcassonneCentral as I was acquire duplicates of Carcassonne base games and expansions. These were for making visual arts with the tiles, known as CarcArt. As my collection grew, and the comments about this, I made a simple program in JavaScript to demonstrate how ten thousand tiles would look like, found here. And from there on it was all downhill realising I'm so close to be able to beat the Guinness World Records in the largest game.
But I didn't stop there. To ensure my top after I'd beat the record, I needed more tiles and thus my collection grew further and further. Realising the slow paste and the cost, I decided to inquiry about getting tiles from it's original source. Much to my surprise, barely 2 weeks later, I get a phone call from a truck driver saying he has a delivery for me! This delivery of over 70 sets of tiles from the base game jumped my tile count very close towards the 10k mark.

And so begins the quest for finding a suitable indoor area to play the game...

(Chapter one will be posted on Tuesday March 29th)

Anything Else / Silly thing done when bored.
« on: March 07, 2016, 04:30:19 AM »
Monday started off with a lot of work so I have tomorrow off when we then will be doing another Carcassonne test run for the world record.

But, it's also important to have lunch and so I did this silly image. Hope you get the pun!
